FOR NATIVE FOUR YEAR OLDS AND UPWARD. WEIGHT, 120 LBS. NON-WINNERS OF A RACE SINCE JUNE 24 ALLOWED 1 LBS. A RACE SINCE JUNE 9 ALLOWED 2 LBS. A RACE SINCE MAY 9 ALLOWED 4 LBS. CLAIMING PRICE $7,500

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 5 TSUNAMI HIT 5/2

# 3 MANDRAKE 7/2

# 2 HERO BULL 2/1

TSUNAMI HIT has a quite good shot to take this race. Could beat this group given the 76 Equibase speed fig earned in his last outing. With a nice class rating average of 88, has one of the most respectable class advantages in this field. Has been racing strongly and has among the most respectable speed in the race for today's distance. MANDRAKE - Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Rios have shown strong results recently. The speed fig of 76 from his last race looks very strong in here. HERO BULL - Is tough not to examine based on Speed Figures which have been respectable - 79 avg - of late. Must be considered given the class of races run as of late.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 3 STREET SMOKE 8/1

# 2 ASSOCIATION 7/2

# 6 LIBERTY ROAD 5/2

My choice for this race is STREET SMOKE and the potential return justifies the hazardous nature of the long odds. May see a turn around with blinkers going on for this race. Might best this group of horses in this race here, showing very good figs of late. ASSOCIATION - Sire figs point to this filly being close at the wire. Don't overlook this pony as the trainer has produced quite good profits with 1st time starters. Gold has done quite well with maidens in the past. LIBERTY ROAD - She should definitely be given a shot given the respectable speed numbers.

Belterra Park - Race #4 - Post: 3:12pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $7,800 Class Rating: 76

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#3 YANKEE KITTEN (ML=7/2)
#2 BEFUDDLER (ML=5/1)

YANKEE KITTEN - According to well-known handicapping experts, the stalking-type of horse is one of the most steadfast bets in racing. Looking at today's class figure, this horse is encountering an easier field than last out at Belterra Park. BEFUDDLER - This horse's last race was out at Indiana Downs in a race with an Equibase class figure of 88. Dropping significantly in class rating this time out puts her in a solid position in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 BOBBY MAC (ML=5/2), #1 REAL LUCK (ML=4/1), #6 LINCOLN FLYER (ML=6/1),

BOBBY MAC - You should normally gamble against probable favorites that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last few weeks. REAL LUCK - This horse hasn't been showing me anything in the last couple of efforts. Hasn't finished in the money in any sprint contests of late. Not probable to see him doing it this time out either. This horse recorded a fig in his last event which likely isn't good enough in today's race. LINCOLN FLYER - I'd like to see more hospitable recent outings with M/L odds of 6/1.

Presque Isle Downs - Race #3 - Post: 3:55pm - Claiming - 8.3 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $12,000 Class Rating: 90

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#5 ALAJWAD DANCER (ML=8/1)
#1 PRIMO (ML=7/2)
#3 ROCKFIELD (ML=5/1)
#2 FINE (ML=6/1)

ALAJWAD DANCER - Delgado should be able to place this gelding right behind the leaders. Ideally, Delgado will rate behind the leaders, then swing by on the turn. Finished outside the top 3 last out at Presque Isle Downs, but was within 5 lengths of the winner. Opening at 8/1 makes me think he's got a chance. PRIMO - Cowans has this gelding signed up for the ideal contest. ROCKFIELD - I wouldn't worry too much about the layoff; this gelding is ready to run today. FINE - Dropped down in class last time out, and keeps in that lower class in this event. A good sign this horse is comfortable and ready to go. Have to give this gelding a fair chance. Ran a good race in the last race within the last thirty days. This one has increased his speed ratings from a fig of 70 to 76 to 85 in a row.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 BECKHAM BEND (ML=4/1), #10 ROCKIN' MELODY (ML=9/2), #4 DREAM COMMANDER (ML=8/1),

BECKHAM BEND - I'd like to see more hospitable recent efforts with morning line of 4/1. Have to be leery of the recent trend and awesome speed fig in the Jun 23rd race. It was this horse's greatest at that distance and this one should bounce today. ROCKIN' MELODY - Not a perfect 'placement' in this race. DREAM COMMANDER - This gelding hasn't been showing me anything in the last two efforts.

#4 QUIBBLER
#9 HOPE'S ROAR
#5 ESKY
#1 BATTLE AXE

#4 QUIBBLER takes a slight class drop (-1), and produced "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in both of her two career starts to date, including a "POWER RUN PLACE" finish facing better company in her last start. She will be feeling that "LASIX LIFT" for the 2nd time today, and is a daughter of Bellamy Road, whose progeny have hit the board in 42% of more than 2,700 combined lifetime starts to date. #9 HOPE'S ROAR, a 5-1 shot, drops in class (-8), is the overall speed leader in this maiden field racing at, or about today's distance of 9.0 furlongs on the turf , and comes off back-to-back "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in her last two starts.

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

EARLY PICK 4:

2,7,8/6,7,10/4,6,7/2,6,7 = $81

LATE PICK 4: 3,4,8/1,3,6/2,6,7/2,4 = $54

MEET STATS: 160 - 515 / $920.60 BEST BETS: 20 - 46 / $71.10

SPOT PLAYS: 6 - 44 / $53.20

Best Bet: MICHELLES HATTRICK (7th)

Spot Play: NOT DEPRESSED (6th)

Race 1

(2) BUTTERMILK HANOVER caught our eye on June 27th when closing quickly in the final 1/8th for 2nd while under a death grip on a surface that wasn't kind to closers. She had a subsequent tightener and gets the call here off observations made from that initial qualifier. (1) L A DELIGHT was closing fastest in her debut and is likely to get pounded at the windows off that excellent debut. (7) TEMPUS SEELSTER has displayed good closing power in both trials and can threaten here at first asking.

Race 2

(2) LOOKSLIKEACHPNDALE tried in vain to chase after a runaway leader in his seasonal debut, which proved an impossible task for him and the rest of the field. That was a solid effort he can build on and he figures to get a good trip on the early pace here. (1) SHOW BIZ HALL broke early last time and lost all hope in an OSS Gold event. If he stays flat he will be very tough to beat, but he figures to be a big chalk here, too. (6) ARIELLA won easily twice in this class before unsuccessfully trying sires stakes company down south. She is dangerous here, likely at a square price.

Race 3

(4) NO SHADOWS has looked good winning both qualifiers and will be tough in this pari-mutuel debut for a potent trainer/driver team; top call. (3) LIFE BOOK gave up a big lead late in her lone qualifier but can improve off that, especially if she gets a covered trip close to the leader. (1) TWIN B PRECIOUS had an opener where she didn't show much, but finished okay and could go forward here with that experience in tow.

Race 4

(2) DANCIN INTHE NUDE tried to close into an accelerating pace on a day when closers were at a big disadvantage. She managed to get by two in front of her late and looks as good as any in this wide-open dash to start the pick 4. Go deep. (7) MY RHYTHM OF RHYME made a big move to the front but couldn't hold off a good winner in the same qualifier as the choice. She did finish ahead of her and is one of the major contenders here. (8) JIMMYS LITTLE GIRL erased a 4 length deficit quickly down the lane and is another that will be on our early pick 4 tickets.

Race 5

(7) NATURAL GRACE has been on a tear out of town - winning 4 of 5 - and Mackenzie hands the reins over to Zeron here, who no doubt will be blasting early for a spot on or near the top; slight edge in another tough race. (6) GROOVEY KID was a big winner that was claimed by a conditioner that has won with 20% of her starters so far this year; using. (10) INCREDABLE FRANK drops from the top class at the B tracks and gets Filion. Don't be surprised by a big speed try, even from out there.

Race 6

(7) NOT DEPRESSED is a full-sister to three winners that won 27 times as a group and all went faster than 1:54 flat as individuals. Two of those three won in their first two starts. This one likely has a lot more speed than was shown in the qualifier; top call. (6) THREE DREAMS hasn't been asked for anything early in either qualifier but finished well in both and looks like one of the fastest fillies in here. (4) MISS PRINT followed along most of the mile then used a 27-flat kicker to nail down 2nd in her debut. She is a threat here.

Race 7

(2) MICHELLES HATTRICK is by a top sire out of a dam that took her debut in 1:53 3/5 and went on to win her first seven races and earn more than $300K as a rookie. She has also produced two winners from three foals. This one looks ready and gets the call here. (7) ST LADS SMOKIN HOT is a half-sister to St Lads Peeper (1:51 1/5) and St Lads Popcorn (1:52 2/5), both noted for their blazing early speed. Don't be shocked if this filly motors off the wings of the gate at the start. (6) STATE OF JOY is a half-sister to eight winners, five of which paced faster than 1:53 flat, the most recent of which was Happy Becky who won her debut here in 1:56 1/5 last summer. Throw this one on your pick 4 tickets.

Race 8

(3) HEAVENLY HILL is the first foal of a racemare that won 3 times and finished in the exacta 9 times in 16 starts while taking a mark of 1:51 2/5 and earning $190K. The daughter of Art Colony looks ready to roll for top connections and gets a slight nod here. (4) VERA BON is one of two horses that are by a modest sire that debuted and won at big prices at Georgian on June 28 for the same trainer. This one closed so fast that night she cannot be discounted here. (8) DIVAS IMAGE rocketed home for 2nd on June 27, a day where all 16 baby races were won by horses leading in early stretch. Don't sleep on this one at a good price.

Race 9

(6) CASIMIR PUCKER UP made two moves in her debut but couldn't close into an accelerating late pace. She did show good speed both early and late in that mile and gets the call here second time out. (1) ACTIVE LADY is a half-sister to two winners from two that have raced so far, one taking a mark of 1:49 2/5, the other 1:51 1/5. Keep her on late pick 4 tickets. (3) STARTLED dropped three seconds in her second qualifier in taking a first-over win and looks ready to go.

Race 10

(7) BOLD AMORETTO couldn't close on a big winner in her June 27 qualifier but she did keep the others at bay and held 2nd despite being out the route. Her dam has produced 5 winners from 6 that have raced and she is worth a stab here at what is likely to be a good price. (6) BOOZER BRUISER paced a solid qualifying effort on Saturday and may be putting things together now. (2) VERMILION BIRD was an impressive winner in her lone qualifier over an off track and goes for top connections.

Race 11

(4) FROSTY DELIGHT couldn't cut into a big deficit while on poor cover in an accelerating pace last time, but she did pace evenly and record a quick final 1/4. McNair may get more aggressive with this one 2nd time around knowing she can finish; slight nod in a wide-open dash. (2) BET ON HILL exits the same dash where she chased in 2nd the entire mile. She seems to fit this class better. (3) STONEBRIDGE SUPERB was a following third in the same race and is a good one for lower rungs of the vertical wagers. (8) ELECTRICINTENSIONS was closing well at the end but was way too far back. She can get a piece here if she starts up earlier. (9) OUTLIER has been hanging around for minor shares in this class recently.

Best Bet: BROOKLYNS BEST (5th)

Spot Play: IDEAL A LITTLE (1st)

Race 1

(3) IDEAL A LITTLE should excel from the 3-hole; all systems go. (4) A LITTLE STARSTRUK is an upstate invader th

Race 2

(1) BREWSKI did quite well in her first trip at the Hilltop; expect better from the fence. (7) DENYITTOTHEEND has good early zip and appears to be the main threat in here. (5) PASSION R VIRGINIE will be flying late.

Race 3

(3) AMASA AL is clearly knocking at the door based on his latest. Gelding has the right stuff to mow these down for all the glory. (1) SHEER DESIRE was second best in his last try. (5) BAZILLION put in a mild bid last out.

Race 4

(3) TOUCH AND GO took the pocket route home to victory last time around. Old pro is very capable of repeating. (4) RILEYS LUCK closed strongly to nail down the victory recently. (5) JC KINGDOM has fine speed and could be a factor in this event.

Race 5

(3) BROOKLYNS BEST showed early pace in her last try. Pacing mare can get back to her winning ways with Brennan on the return call. (1) GET THE LOOK put in two nice efforts; main danger. (5) PRIVATE PERFORMANC could grab a share of the purse.

Race 6

(2) FIRSTCLASSFLIGHT was sharp in her last trip to the post and she has every right to move forward off that effort. (6) STAGE IT RIGHT was quite game in her last start; threat. (1) MOJARRA HANOVER should do much better from the fence; watch out.

Race 7

(4) ALED HANOVER posted an even finish in his last start. Gelding can take this with a fine-timed drive from Dube. (3) P L FIGHTER might contend in here based on his last two outings. (5) ART FOR ARTS SAKE will be flying late.

Race 8

(6) SECRETSOFTHEKNIGHT was nailed for win honors in his last try. Pacer is good enough to get the job done over these. (4) GAVINS DESIGNER gets serious post relief and that should help his cause. (3) ART OF ILLUSION was second best at Monticello last time out.

Race 9

(1) HER OWN LAND is back at a winning level, moves to the fence and Brennan has the assignment; ready to score. (5) A LA NOTTE HANOVER might find these to her liking; maybe. (2) COCOA BEACH is not out of this from the 2-hole.

Race 10

(4) GROUNDED is a hot commodity at the claim box. Brennan had other options so with that said, this gal can pounce and score over this group. (1) BAHAMA BLUE put in a nice run for the placing last out; big player. (6) GRACE SEELSTER has good early zip; don't overlook.

Race 11

(3) FREETIME is better than her last start. She is very capable of putting it all together for all the marbles. (6) FANTICIPATION was sharp in her last two tries; main danger. (4) CLASSY LANE ROSE was nailed for win honors in her most recent outing.

Beaten Favorites

In baseball just because a team is heavily favored does not mean the club will win every time. The baseball season is a long, grueling one and there are days when teams don't give their best efforts. Ace pitchers have an off day, relievers implode, hitters slump and/or costly errors are made. Diving into our trusted baseball database Heavy Favorites, that is chalk of -$1.71 or higher have won at a 66.9% clip (77-38) this season for a net return of +$284 for backers. Now, one would assume the 38 mentioned 'Beaten Heavy Favorites' would pick themselves up the following game providing solid betting choices. Well, in sports betting like life itself, Rule Number One - 'Never Assume Anything'. The Beaten Heavy Favorites were far from a sure thing the next outing posting a 20-18 record depleting betting accounts by -$616. Something to keep in mind throughout the season. As always best of luck but above all enjoy the games.

MLB Preview: Angels (46-38) at Mariners (39-46)

Game: 1
Venue: Safeco Field
Date: July 09, 2015 10:10 PM EDT

Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez has an ERA under 1.00 in his last nine starts against the Los Angeles Angels.

Garrett Richards can say the same about his ERA in his last five outings versus the Mariners.

A premier pitching duel between Hernandez and Richards is on tap for Thursday night's opener of a four-game series at Safeco Field.

Hernandez (10-5, 3.02 ERA) is 5-0 with a 0.93 ERA in his last nine outings against Los Angeles, with the Mariners (39-46) winning the first eight of that stretch. He is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA in three starts versus the Angels this year, with Albert Pujols 2 for 8 against him and Mike Trout 1 for 7 with a homer.

Trout batted .367 against Hernandez before this season while Pujols is 10 for 45 with 12 strikeouts overall in this matchup.

Three Los Angeles regulars are hitless against "King Felix" this year. Kole Calhoun is 0 for 8 and David Freese and Chris Iannetta are each 0 for 6.

The Angels were ecstatic after ending their eight-game slide when facing Hernandez in a 3-2, 10-inning win June 28. He struck out eight in six scoreless innings.

"He's got some of the best stuff I've ever seen," Calhoun said. "So anytime you can win a game that Felix starts, it's a good day."

Since becoming the AL's first 10-game winner June 17, Hernandez is 0-2 with a 2.75 ERA in three starts. The right-hander allowed two runs and a season-high 10 hits over seven innings in Saturday's 2-0 loss at Oakland.

He'll up against a formidable opponent in Richards (9-5, 3.35), who is 3-0 with a 0.97 ERA in his last five outings against Seattle, including 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA in two this year. Logan Morrison is 3 for 6 against Richards this year while teammates Seth Smith, Brad Miller, Nelson Cruz and Dustin Ackley all have career averages of .214 or worse in this matchup.

Richards has thrown 14 1-3 consecutive scoreless innings at Seattle. He improved to 4-1 with a 2.04 ERA in his last five outings after allowing one run over 7 2-3 innings in Friday's 8-2 victory at Texas.

Los Angeles seeks a season-high sixth straight win after sweeps in Texas and Colorado. Trout homered twice in Wednesday's 3-2 victory over the Rockies and Erick Aybar continued his torrid hitting by going 2 for 4.

'It's one of those nights,' Trout said. 'I got some pitches to hit and barreled them up.'

Aybar, a .220 hitter versus Hernandez, is 11 for 21 with four doubles in this win streak during which the Angels have averaged 9.2 runs and gone 25 for 56 (.446) with runners in scoring position.

Seattle, meanwhile, is batting a major league-low .205 with runners in scoring position this season after going 0 for 14 in Wednesday's 5-4 home loss to Detroit.

'You certainly would like to be more efficient in those spots,' said Trent Jewett, filling in as Mariners manager with Lloyd McClendon away from the team to attend his sister's funeral. 'We obviously had plenty of opportunities to push a lot more across.'

McClendon is expected to rejoin the team for this series.

Center fielder Austin Jackson, who is 1 for 13 against Richards, left with back spasms and is unlikely to play Thursday.

Aybar is hitting a team-best .385 in the season series with the Angels winning six of nine matchups.

Yankees activate CF Ellsbury and LHP Miller
The Sports Xchange

The New York Yankees activated center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury and left-handed closer Andrew Miller from the disabled list Wednesday.

Ellsbury had been sidelined since mid-May with a sprained right knee. Miller had been out for a month with a strained forearm.

Ellsbury, in his second season with the Yankees, was off to a solid start before the injury. He was hitting .324 with a .412 on-base percentage, 14 stolen bases and 29 runs scored in 37 games.

Miller had converted each of his 17 save opportunities in his first season in New York.

Nationals' Span to rest ailing back through All-Star break
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Back spasms will keep Washington Nationals center fielder Denard Span on the bench through the All-Star break.

The 31-year-old Span won't be placed on the disabled list for the time being, manager Matt Williams said Wednesday. But Washington's leadoff hitter will see a specialist on Thursday to review results of an earlier MRI.

The Nationals finished a series with the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night and travel to Baltimore for weekend games before the break.

Span, who is batting .304 with five home runs and 22 RBIs and leads the team with 11 stolen bases in 11 attempts, starting having back issues during a June 7 loss to the Chicago Cubs. He has missed 25 games during the first half of the season because of injuries

"I've tried to play through it for the last month," Span said Tuesday night after a loss to the Reds. "I don’t think I'm doing myself or the team any good. I've been playing every four days and then getting a day off here and there. I can't do that. I can't do that to the team. It puts the team in a bad spot."

Dickey struggling, still winless on the road
Justin Hartling

R.A. Dickey has not been good on the road this season with the knuckleballer posting a 0-6 record and a 6.04 ERA while allowing opponents to bat .337 in eight starts away from Toronto this season. Not surprisingly, the Blue Jays have had difficulties competing in those games, going 1-7.

Dickey has allowed four more runs on the road than he has at home, despite starting an extra game at home this season.

Dickey will take to the mound Thursday at U.S. Cellular Field.

Thursday's six-pack

-- Atlanta Braves have used 49 players already this season, 11 who had never been in major leagues before this year.

-- Minimum payroll for an NBA team this season will be $63M.

-- Jets play Giants this year, giving them is essence nine home games.

-- Costs $10M to apply for an NHL expansion team; $2M of that isn't refundable.

-- Northwestern's basketball team has finished over .500 in Big 14 play once in last 47 seasons; don't use academics as an excuse (Duke-Vandy-Stanford are all good).

-- Pirates' Josh Harrison (thumb) is out for seven weeks, a big blow.

7/09/2015: Thursday MLB Bonus Play:

The visitors hand the ball to Jesse Chavez (4-8, 3.20 ERA) who was shelled for four runs off nine hits over 6 1/3's innings vs. the Mariners on Friday. Chavez continues to struggle since returning from the DL and unfortunately a "day" game is not what the doctor ordered to get untracked as he's just 1-5 with a 3.89 ERA in all such instances this year. The home side counters with Mashario Tanaka (4-3, 3.94 ERA) who gave up three runs in a no-decision vs. the Rays on Friday, ultimately going six innings and striking out five. Tanaka has looked a bit shaky in his last two starts, but I don't think there's anything to get panicked about if you're a fan of his, it's not like the 26 year old has suddenly forgotten how to play the game. For the most part MLB handicapping comes down to the starting pitching and in this case, I am giving the nod to Tanaka in this matchup and that's going to be more than enough to tip the scales in our favor.

Play on the YANKEES.

Bonus Play Thursday

BRAVES (Wood) @ ROCKIES (Kendrick) 8:40 PM

Take: BRAVES -110

It’s not like the Braves are setting the world on fire. But considering they’re just one game below .500 and very much a potential playoff race factor, I think it’s fair to say this team is exceeding expectations this season.

The same cannot be said for the Rockies. The lack of progress with this franchise over the last few years is troubling. The prevailing consensus that the Rockies front office is one of the weakest in the game is simply getting reinforced again this year.

Alex Wood has never pitched previously at Coors and that’s generally not a positive. But he’s a lefty and the Rockies are just not hitting southpaws, even in the friendly confines of Coors Field. Wood has done some good work on the road this campaign and he ought to have a decent chance to contain that Colorado offense tonight.

Kyle Kendrick’s 2015 season has been mostly a nightmare. His numbers are almost all horrific. Atlanta’s offense is not the most daunting on the planet, especially with Freddie Freeman still sidelined. But they still continue to bang around opposition righties and they’re facing one who isn’t getting the job done in tonight’s matchup.

The Braves are certain to be a popular betting choice tonight, but I don’t mind being on the square side if I also believe it’s the right side. I made this number higher than it is currently and I’ve go no problem backing Atlanta tonight.

Take: (916) CLEVELAND INDIANS

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Thursday, July 9, 2015 is in the MLB contest between the Blue Jays and Indians in Cleveland. Cleveland has some great young pitching and Cody Anderson goes here, allowing 14 hits and 1 walk in 23+ innings! Houston is a .500 road team and the Astros are 50-102 in their last 152 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. Moreover, his last start, he allowed six earned runs over just 1 1/3 innings to the Yankees. The Astros are 17-37 in their last 54 road games vs. a team with a home winning percentage of less than .400. Houston is 3-13 against the Indians and the Astros are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in Cleveland. Play Cleveland.
