Preview: Padres at Diamondbacks

Current Conditions - Phoenix
GAME: San Diego Padres (23-36) at Arizona Diamondbacks (35-25)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 3:40 PM EST
WHERE: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Arizona Diamondbacks attempt to complete their third consecutive three-game sweep at home when they host the San Diego Padres on Thursday afternoon. Arizona has won eight in a row at Chase Field, taking three straight from both the New York Mets and Chicago White Sox before capturing the first two contests against San Diego.

Wednesday's 7-4 triumph helped the Diamondbacks raise their major league-best home record to 23-8. Jake Lamb has been a big factor in Arizona's current success in the desert as he carries an 11-game hitting streak at Chase Field into the series finale after belting a three-run homer on Wednesday, giving him seven RBIs in the first two games against the Padres. Despite a 3-for-3 performance by Jose Pirela during its 11-hit effort, San Diego suffered its fourth straight setback on Wednesday. Yangervis Solarte has recorded four multi-hit performances in his last eight contests after going 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs in the Padres' latest loss.

TV: 3:40 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN San Diego, FSN Arizona

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Clayton Richard (4-6, 4.36 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks LH Patrick Corbin (4-6, 5.43)

Richard has yielded 10 hits in three of his last four turns but gave up only three earned runs in two of those, winning one. The 33-year-old native of Indiana is 2-1 in three outings versus Arizona this season, including a complete-game victory - his first since 2012 - on May 21 in which he allowed one run and five hits. It continued Richard's mastery of the Diamondbacks, as he is 10-4 with a 3.92 ERA in 16 career starts against them.

Corbin has been pounded in his last two starts, surrendering 13 runs and 19 hits over nine innings en route to a pair of losses. The 27-year-old New Yorker gave up two earned runs in each of his previous two turns against San Diego this year and recorded a total of 17 strikeouts with only two walks over 13 frames but went just 1-1. Corbin owns a 4-5 record and 3.38 ERA in 13 career appearances (eight starts) versus the Padres.

WALK-OFFS

1. Diamondbacks 1B Paul Goldschmidt leads the majors in runs with 50 after scoring twice in each of the first two games of the series versus San Diego.

2. Arizona RHP Taijuan Walker (finger), who has been on the disabled list since May 20, threw a simulated game Wednesday and experienced no issues.

3. San Diego RHP Miguel Diaz is slated to make his first major-league start Saturday against Kansas City.

Preview: Orioles at Nationals

Current Conditions - Washington
GAME: Baltimore Orioles (30-26) at Washington Nationals (37-21)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Battle of the Beltway meets for a one-game showdown when the Washington Nationals host the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday in the makeup of a game that was rained out on May 11. The Nationals are trying to earn a tie in the Beltway series after dropping two at Baltimore and winning the first at home before the second was postponed.

Washington is returning for a seven-game homestand after going 7-2 on a nine-game road trip, including a series win at the Los Angeles Dodgers this week that ended with a 2-1 loss on Wednesday. "This game could've been ours and it wasn't, and we got to be satisfied with what we have," Nationals manager Dusty Baker told reporters. "If somebody would've told you when we left home we would be 7-2, I'm sure everybody would have been more than satisfied. When you could've been 8-1, then you're not satisfied." The Orioles probably could have used the day off after back-to-back extra-inning games but come in with some momentum following the pair of walk-off wins over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Alec Asher will go out in search of his second win as a starter for Baltimore on Thursday while the Nationals counter with struggling righty Joe Ross.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, MASN2 (Baltimore), MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Alec Asher (2-3, 3.62 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Joe Ross (2-2, 7.34)

Asher made his fourth start and 13th appearance of the season on Friday against Boston and breezed through 6 1/3 innings while allowing two runs and three hits without issuing a walk. The Florida native was lit up for six runs on as many hits in two innings at Houston in his previous outing. Asher spent the 2015 and 2016 campaigns in the National League East with the Philadelphia Phillies and is 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA in three career games - two starts - against Washington.

Ross is in danger of losing his rotation spot after getting lit up for a total of 12 runs - 11 earned - and 19 hits in seven innings over his last two starts. The 24-year-old returned to the rotation and allowed one run in eight innings to earn a win over Seattle on May 23 but could not find that form in his last two chances. Ross made one relief appearance against the Orioles in his career - firing 1 1/3 hitless innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Orioles 3B Manny Machado (left wrist soreness) left Wednesday's game and is day-to-day.

2. Washington 1B Ryan Zimmerman bashed his 17th home run on Wednesday and recorded four in his last nine games.

3. Baltimore OF Trey Mancini went 2-for-2 with two home runs and five RBIs on Wednesday after entering the game as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning.

Preview: Red Sox at Yankees

GAME: Boston Red Sox (32-25) at New York Yankees (32-23)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Yankees guaranteed that they would finish the series in first place in the American League when they turned away the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. The Yankees will try to take the rubber match and boost their lead to three games over their arch rivals when they host the Red Sox in the finale of the three-game series on Thursday.

New York won the battle of former Cy Young Award winners on Wednesday by backing a strong start from CC Sabathia with a pair of home runs off Rick Porcello in the 8-0 drubbing. One of those home runs - a solo blast in the third - came from shortstop Didi Gregorius, who hit safely in each of the last nine games and slugged home runs in two of the last four. Gregorius is 10-for-21 with a home run and five RBIs in his career against left-hander David Price, who gets the start for Boston on Thursday opposite Yankees righty Michael Pineda. The Red Sox had a three-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday while being shut out for the fifth time this season.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, NESN (Boston), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH David Price (1-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Michael Pineda (6-3, 3.76)

Price is making his third start of the season after recovering from elbow soreness and certainly looked healthy in his first two outings. The Vanderbilt product allowed two hits in five innings at the Chicago White Sox in his season debut and followed that up by holding the Baltimore Orioles to one run on three hits in seven innings on Saturday. Price went 1-3 with a 7.89 ERA in five starts against New York in his first season with the Red Sox last year.

Pineda had a string of five straight quality starts come to an end when he allowed five runs and a season-high 10 hits in five innings at Toronto on Friday. The Dominican Republic native allowed three or fewer earned runs in nine straight starts before facing the Blue Jays. Pineda is 4-5 with a 4.73 ERA in 11 career starts against Boston, including 0-2 in four starts last season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Red Sox RF Mookie Betts is 4-for-28 over his last seven games.

2. Yankees 1B Chris Carter is 4-for-8 with a pair of home runs in the series to lift his batting average to .202.

3. Boston is expected to recall LHP Brian Johnson to start on Friday in place of LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (knee).

Preview: Marlins at Pirates

GAME: Miami Marlins (24-33) at Pittsburgh Pirates (26-32)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Edinson Volquez tossed an emotional no-hitter in his last outing and will try to become the second pitcher in history to throw two in a row when he takes the mound for the Miami Marlins in the opener of a four-game series at the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. Volquez is bidding to join Johnny Vander Meer in that exclusive consecutive no-hit club.

Volquez injured his ankle colliding with the leadoff hitter in the first inning on Saturday but pitched through the pain in that contest and will give it a go again at less than 100 percent when he opposes Pirates ace Gerrit Cole on Thursday. If Volquez can keep it close, then the Marlins will have a great shot at winning for the fifth time in seven games. Close games are becoming a bit of a struggle for Pittsburgh due to the recent ineffectiveness of closer Tony Watson, who blew the save in the last two games as the Pirates posted back-to-back walk-off losses in Baltimore. Watson, who got a vote of confidence from manager Clint Hurdle before blowing Wednesday's save, allowed multiple earned runs in five of his last 10 appearances to balloon his ERA from 1.62 to 4.44.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins RH Edinson Volquez (2-7, 3.79 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (3-5, 4.27)

Volquez dedicated his no-hitter on Saturday to deceased fellow pitchers Jose Fernandez and Yordano Ventura after he faced the minimum against Arizona while striking out 10, walking two and inducing a pair of double plays in the 98-pitch gem. The Dominican Republic native did not earn his first win on the season until his previous start, when he limited Philadelphia to one run and three hits in six frames. Volquez, who spent the 2014 campaign in Pittsburgh, is 3-0 with a 3.79 ERA in 10 career starts against the Pirates.

Cole has not been at his best of late and earned a win at the New York Mets on Friday despite allowing seven runs and eight hits in five innings. The former No. 1 overall pick coughed up 16 runs and 28 hits in 14 2/3 innings over his last two outings following a string of eight straight quality starts. Cole is 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA in six career starts against the Marlins.

WALK-OFFS

1. Pirates C Francisco Cervelli was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Wednesday.

2. Miami CF Christian Yelich went hitless in the just-completed three-game series at Chicago to drop his batting average to .259.

3. Pittsburgh 3B David Freese is 7-for-14 with four RBIs in his last three games.

Preview: White Sox at Rays

Current Conditions - St. Petersburg
GAME: Chicago White Sox (25-31) at Tampa Bay Rays (29-31)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Tampa Bay Rays have struggled to score runs of late but took advantage of a patchwork offense and a stellar major-league debut by Jacob Faria to even their three-game series with the visiting Chicago White Sox. Faria's presence afforded an extra day of rest for fellow right-hander Jake Odorizzi, who will look to help the Rays move to .500 with a win over the White Sox in the series finale on Thursday.

Tampa Bay was outscored 32-9 during its season-high four-game losing skid before Tim Beckham's RBI single and Avisail Garcia's misplay of the ball ignited a three-run third inning. The modest offense was enough against Chicago, which has mustered just 23 runs en route to losing six of its last seven. Jose Abreu recorded an RBI single for the second straight game after going 3-for-27 in his previous seven contests. Abreu is just 1-for-5 in his career against Odorizzi while the rest of the team is marginally better (5-for-23), with the hurler recording 10 total strikeouts in that span.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Chicago, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox LH Derek Holland (4-5, 3.43 ERA) vs. Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (3-3, 3.53)

Holland was blitzed for three homers and as many doubles en route to allowing eight runs and as many hits in 2 1/3 innings in a 15-5 shellacking by Detroit on Friday. Manager Rick Renteria deemed it "an anomaly" although the 30-year-old also served up three homers and permitted seven runs in a 7-6 loss to Minnesota on May 11. Holland has pitched significantly better versus Tampa Bay, posting a 4-3 mark while limiting the Rays to just a .238 batting average in 11 career appearances.

Odorizzi stumbled out of the blocks on Friday, tossing 48 pitches in the first inning and allowing two homers and eight runs total in 2 1/3 frames of a 12-4 loss at Seattle. The 27-year-old has been taken deep at least once in each of his last seven starts, leading to a career-worst 1.9 homer/nine innings. Odorizzi has posted an 0-1 record in two career meetings with Chicago.

WALK-OFFS

1. Chicago CF Leury Garcia has four RBIs and as many runs scored during his eight-game hitting streak.

2. Rays C Derek Norris was in the lineup Wednesday despite Major League Baseball investigation allegations that he "physically and emotionally abused" his former fiancee, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

3. White Sox RHP James Shields (right lat strain) is slated to make his second rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (21-35) at Atlanta Braves (24-32)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 7:35 PM EST
WHERE: SunTrust Park, Cumberland, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Ben Lively gave the struggling Philadelphia Phillies a huge boost in his major-league debut, and the right-hander looks to impress again in his second start Thursday when the Phillies conclude a four-game series at the Atlanta Braves. Lively fired seven innings of one-run, four-hit pitching in a victory over San Francisco on Saturday, and looks to give Philadelphia a series victory after the Braves beat the Phillies for the first time in six tries this season Wednesday, 14-1.

Philadelphia center fielder Odubel Herrera collected two more doubles Wednesday, and his last 11 hits have gone for extra bases (nine doubles and two homers in his past five games). Atlanta snapped a two-game losing streak with Wednesday’s victory as center fielder Ender Inciarte finished 2-for-4, and he enters the series finale hitting 10-for-16 in his past four games. Right fielder Nick Markakis drove in five runs and doubled three times, his 90th double since arriving in Atlanta in 2015. Shortstop Dansby Swanson broke out of an 8-for-51 slump with three hits, including a three-run homer.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Ben Lively (1-0, 1.29 ERA) vs. Braves RH R.A. Dickey (3-4, 5.10)

Lively did not strike out a hitter in his debut, but nonetheless kept the Giants off balance in throwing 61 of his 98 pitches for strikes. The 25-year-old earned the promotion to the majors after going 6-1 in nine starts for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 2.40 ERA with 45 strikeouts, seven walks and one complete game. Lively finished 2016 with an 18-5 record and a 2.69 ERA, pitching at Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading.

The 42-year-old Dickey continues to struggle with command of his knuckleball, walking five while striking out two for the second consecutive start Saturday at Cincinnati. Dickey allowed five runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings against the Reds, and has logged a 6.75 ERA with 31 hits allowed and 16 walks in his past 22 2/3 innings. Dickey lost his only start against Philadelphia in 2016, giving up three runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Wednesday’s loss dropped the Phillies to 14-15 against National League East competition; Philadelphia is 7-21 outside the NL East.

2. Philadelphia 1B Tommy Joseph is batting .295 in his past 31 games, raising his average from .187 to .250.

3. Atlanta placed 3B Adonis Garcia (hand) on the 10-day disabled list and recalled OF Lane Adams from Triple-A Gwinnett.

GAME: Colorado Rockies (38-23) at Chicago Cubs (30-27)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Colorado Rockies’ recent rough patch appears to be behind them, but they face a tough test when they begin a seven-game road trip with the opener of a four-game series against the defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs on Thursday. The Rockies enter with a four-game winning streak and hope to cool off the Cubs, who have captured five of six to begin their 10-game homestand following a six-game skid.

The Rockies briefly surrendered the top spot in the National League West when they lost three straight and four of five last week, but they’ve rebounded to win four in a row and open a two-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs won five straight to pull into a tie with Milwaukee atop the NL Central before slipping a game back with a 6-5 loss in Wednesday’s series finale against Miami. Both starting pitchers will be happy to take the mound at Wrigley Field, as Chicago's Jon Lester owns a 2.15 ERA in seven home starts this season while Colorado's Tyler Chatwood has posted a 2.68 ERA in six turns on the road. Colorado took two of three from the Cubs at home in April and has won six of the last nine meetings dating to the start of last season.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, ROOT (Colorado), CSN Chicago Plus

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Tyler Chatwood (5-7, 4.60 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jon Lester (3-3, 3.91)

Chatwood has shown moments of brilliance during a mostly mediocre campaign. The 27-year-old was on top of his game Saturday at San Diego, striking out eight over eight innings while allowing one run and four hits, but it marked only his fourth quality start in 12 outings this season. Chatwood is 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in two career starts against the Cubs and worked seven scoreless frames in his only previous outing at Wrigley Field.

Lester has posted quality starts in three of his last four outings, with a clunker against the Los Angeles Dodgers mixed in. The 33-year-old didn’t factor in the decision Saturday versus St. Louis after allowing three runs and six hits over six innings. Lester is 1-2 with a 1.69 ERA in three career starts against the Rockies, collecting 30 strikeouts over 21 1/3 innings in those games.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rockies CF Charlie Blackmon has recorded five straight multi-hit performances, going 10-for-21 in that span.

2. Cubs LF Kyle Schwarber recorded his first three-hit effort of the season Wednesday with two doubles and a homer, as all six of his hits since May 17 have gone for extra bases.

3. Chicago has hit 30 home runs in its last 15 home games, including two or more blasts in nine of its last 11 at Wrigley Field.

GAME: Houston Astros (42-17) at Kansas City Royals (25-32)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Houston Astros recently concluded a season-best 11-game winning streak and now are looking to avoid matching their worst skid when they conclude a four-game series against the host Kansas City Royals on Thursday. Houston dropped a 7-5 decision on Wednesday for its second straight loss after capturing the series opener.

The Astros, who own the best record in the majors (42-18), have lost three straight games on two occasions this season. Brian McCann went 4-for-5 with a homer on Wednesday and is 6-for-9 with two blasts and four RBIs in the series. Kansas City has recorded 16 runs in the back-to-back victories while the light-hitting duo of Cheslor Cuthbert (.203) and Alcides Escobar (.183) combined to drive in five on Wednesday. Eric Hosmer was hitless in four at-bats after going 15-for-38 during a nine-game hitting streak.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, ROOT (Houston), FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Lance McCullers Jr. (6-1, 2.71 ERA) vs. Royals RH Jason Hammel (2-6, 5.93)

McCullers won four consecutive starts before not factoring in the decision against Texas in his last turn, as he struck out eight in 4 1/3 innings but yielded four runs - three earned - and six hits. The 23-year-old is just 5-9 with a 4.49 ERA in 22 career road starts but has made improvement this season, going 2-1 with a 3.58 ERA in six outings. McCullers struck out 10 in seven frames against Kansas City in a no-decision on April 9, when he gave up three runs and six hits.

Hammel halted a four-start winless streak by holding Cleveland to three runs and five hits over 6 2/3 innings on Saturday. The 34-year-old has struggled at home, going 2-3 with a 5.65 ERA in seven starts. Hammel is 2-2 with a 3.09 ERA in eight career appearances (seven starts) against the Astros and has enjoyed success against Jose Altuve (2-for-11) and McCann (4-for-18).

WALK-OFFS

1. Astros RF George Springer is 24-for-55 with seven homers and 14 RBIs during his 12-game hitting streak.

2. Kansas City optioned OF Billy Burns and RHP Kevin McCarthy to Triple-A Omaha, recalled INF Ramon Torres from the same club and activated LHP Scott Alexander (hamstring) from the 10-day disabled list.

3. Houston LHP Dallas Keuchel (illness) was scratched just minutes prior to Wednesday's start, and it wasn't immediately known when he will make his next start.

GAME: Minnesota Twins (29-25) at Seattle Mariners (29-30)
DATE/TIME: Thursday, June 08 - 10:10 PM EST
WHERE: Safeco Field, Seattle, Washington
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Seattle Mariners extended their winning streak to a season-high five games in dramatic fashion and strive to continue the success when they conclude their three-game home series against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Mike Zunino clubbed two homers on Wednesday, including a two-run blast with two outs in the ninth inning to account for a 6-5 victory.

Seattle, which has racked up 46 runs during the winning streak, will be without Nelson Cruz for the second straight contest after he injured his right calf during Tuesday's game. "He had the MRI taken (Wednesday)," Mariners manager Scott Servais told reporters. "I don't know how long he'll be out, maybe a day or two. He's got something going on there with the tightness in the calf." Cruz is tied for the American League RBI lead (46) with Twins slugger Miguel Sano, who belted a three-run homer in Wednesday's game and has gone deep four times during his eight-game hitting streak. Minnesota allowed 18 runs while losing the first two games of the series and has dropped seven of its last 10 contests.

TV: 10:10 p.m. ET, FSN North (Minnesota), ROOT (Seattle)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Kyle Gibson (2-4, 7.23 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Christian Bergman (3-2, 4.36)

Gibson has allowed two earned runs in each of his last two outings as he attempts to recover from a porous start. The 29-year-old struck out a season-high six while beating the Los Angeles Angels in his last turn, giving up two runs and six hits over 5 2/3 innings. Gibson is 2-2 with a 2.92 ERA in six career starts against the Mariners and has shut down Zunino (1-for-10).

Bergman has won three of his last four starts, allowing no runs in two of the victories and two in the other. The UC Irvine product defeated Tampa Bay in his last turn as he gave up two runs and seven hits over six innings. The 29-year-old Bergman is 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in three career appearances (two starts) at Safeco Field.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners 3B Kyle Seager homered in each of the first two games of the series and has registered 11 RBIs over his last nine contests.

2. Minnesota placed LHP Hector Santiago (shoulder) on the 10-day disabled list and SS Jorge Polanco on the bereavement list, recalled 1B Kennys Vargas from Triple-A Rochester and claimed RHP Chris Heston off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

3. Seattle SS Jean Segura officially inked the five-year, $70 million contract extension that runs through the 2022 campaign.

MLB | Angels vs Tigers
Play on: Angels +154 at 5Dimes

Free Pick - Rickenbach MLB Thursday Los Angeles Angels Money Line (+) @ Detroit Tigers @ 1:10 ET - The Angels were shutout 4-0 yesterday but look for a bounce back here at a fantastic price. The Angels are a sizable underdog even though the Tigers Michael Fulmer allowed 5 earned runs in his most recent home start and the Angels JC Ramirez has allowed 2 earned runs or less in each of his last 3 road starts. The Angels southpaw threw 7 shutout innings in his most recent outing away from home (at Miami). Los Angeles is a perfect 3-0 in the last 3 road starts Ramirez has made. As for Fulmer's home starts, he has allowed 9 runs (8 earned) on 17 hits in the 14 innings spanning his last 2 starts at Comerica Park. As you can see from these numbers, it would not be a surprise to see him get hit hard at home as the Angels bounce back from yesterday's shutout loss. That was the Tigers first shutout win of this entire season. Detroit and Fulmer got the win over Ramirez and the Angels in Anaheim 4 weeks ago. Time for revenge in the same pitching match-up today and the price is right to step in. Big dog value here. Free Pick on Los Angeles Angels on the money line early Thursday afternoon. Best of luck, Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach

MLB | LAA vs DET
Play on: UNDER 8½ -115

Free Pick on Angels/Tigers UNDER

I really like the value here with the total in Thursday's afternoon clash between the Angels and Tigers. Neither of these teams have swung the bats well in day games this season. Los Angeles has hit just .210 in 15 day games and a lot of those were with Mike Trout in the lineup, who is sidelined. Note that LA is scoring just 3.3 runs/game over their last 7. Detroit is better, but are only hitting .240 as a team over 24 day games.

On top of the offenses not posing a big threat, I like the starting pitching matchup here. Angels will send out J.C. Ramirez, who had a bad outing last time out against the Twins, but still owns a respectable 4.01 ERA and 1.154 WHIP in 10 starts (3.68 ERA in 5 road outings). Detroit counters with last year's Rookie of the Year in Michael Fulmer, who isn't dominating, but is 6-3 with a solid 3.00 ERA and 1.107 WHIP in 11 starts. He faced the Angels back in early May (5/11) and allowed just 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings, improving his ERA to 1.83 in 3 career starts against Los Angeles. Take the UNDER!

Now about this complimentary winner

After nailing the Tampa Bay Rays last night with my free winner, I'm coming back tonight with a free winner on last night's 100 Dime winner - the Arizona Diamondbacks. Love the Snakes in their matinee clash with the San Diego Padres, as the National League West rivals finish up their series in Phoenix.

Nobody can explain what is going on with the Snakes, but the fact is Arizona continues to enjoy one of the best starts to a season. The D'Backs are 36-25 on the year, they're two games back of the National League West-leading Colorado Rockies and they're 23-8 at home.

The Snakes are damn good.

And today they'll devour the West's last place San Diego Padres, who have lost four in a row and are just 10-21 on the road. Many were in awe recently with the Friars' sweep of the Chicago Cubs, but it was the defending World Series champs who were simply playing bad and needed to get home.

I don't care who starts for the Snakes or Padres, so I'm not listing either pitcher. I'm just telling you that Arizona is in a great spot right now, and will continue to hit the ball well and take advantage of a bad San Diego team.

After a pair of blown extra-inning losses in Baltimore the past 2 days, look for Pittsburgh to settle back down in their home park with Gerrit Cole on the hill, and for the Pirates and the Marlins to play a low-scoring contest here on Thursday night.

Cole sports an impossibly-high ERA of close to 10 for his last 3 starts, but you and I both know his stuff is too good for this trend to continue, so look for him to lock horns with the smoking Edinson Volquez and hang goose eggs on the PNC Park scoreboard tonight.

Volquez makes his first start since his no-hitter over Arizona, and over his last 3 starts, Volquez sports an ERA of 1.71 with all 3 of those starts holding Under the total.

For the year, Volquez has seen the Under go 8-2-1 in his season starts, while the Under happens to be 9-3 in Cole's dozen starts this year.

Pitchers duel tonight. Marlins-Pirates Under the total.

2* MIAMI-PITTSBURGH UNDER
