Courtesy of Leatherneck Magazine.

1953 - Marines regained "Carson" Hill during fighting in Korea.

2003 - At about 1850, Cpl Edward Chin, 1st tank Bn, tightened a chain around the neck of a statue of Saddam Hussein in Al-Firdos(Paradise) square in the heart of Iraq's Capital and a marine tank retriever pulled down the statue...Baghdad has been captured.

Now here's a question - Is there anyplace in the universe colder than Korea in winter on the DMZ?

My answer - I don't think so - only a Korean babysan could warm up my frozen assed bones after a few days up there.

I don't remember any Marines when I was in Korea in '68 - it was all MAGs

Now in Vietnam, there were a ton of Matrines in the Central lowlands.

Now here's another question - does a Grunt have any money the day before payday?

Answer - No! And the average grunt is also broke the day after payday.

How do I know - because they were always in the Qui Nhon and Phu Cat EM clubs bumbing butts and beers right after they'd lose all their money playing cards or craps!

I will say this for your average Marine - they could eat anything! They'd eat dog puke if you put it on their plate - Kind of like Tennessee Ernie's coal miner - A mind that's weak, a back that's strong, and an iron stomach.

Finally - when Chuck is shooting at you, it's a lot of comfort to know that the Marines are between you and them.

Oh, yes, I also love ROK's.

I guess I am different then, but when the chit hits the fan, I for one, would be glad to have any soldier or seaman at my side.

I was told my an ex-Marine friend of mine that the situation in Black Hawk Down would not have happened if it were Marines in the downed helicopter. The Marines would have gone in to rescue the fallen.
