BUMP....see if anyone else wants to get in on some variation of the above wagers.

With Harrington In Buffalo and ZIT down In Austin, if I can get about another half dozen of you schmoes in between those locations to pony up, I'd have the makings of a great cross country road trip with free dinners and smoke every night I stop.

If you want to wager CASH,I'll take the Yankees to finish in front of
your beloved Rays for any amount. My CASH will be with a mod within an hour after you accept.Dont even respond if its less than a dime.

Okay...just responding to say I won't respond since I won't put up $1000

My Modestly Endowed Unit size is max $100 and I'd need 3x1 given the current standings and the agreeable bets I've already accepted.

Don't even respond to my non-response unless you're willing to descend to the $100 range at 3x1

Or not last a week there. Nice comeback for the Yanks last night to remain in second.

Big nights by Jason Bay -- four hits, three RBIs; Jacoby Ellsbury four hits, on base five times, three RBIs; three hits by Dustin Pedroia and a pair of hits and two RBIs by Kevin Youkilis gave the Red Sox an 11-3 win over the lowly Washington Nationals in front of a sellout crowd of 41,517, the largest crowd in Nationals Park history. The crowd gave the Nats a mock cheer to end the game.

Which is where the Rays are currently.

Yep...look for a flip flop within the next week to ten days with Toronto likely hanging right in the middle

Guess who's raking at about a .320 pace over past five weeks for Rays (to go with a dozen SB and 25 runs scored)?

It's about time Upton started to hit....

Yanks are falling and they might not get up!!

The current Red Sox bullpen is scary good right now.......from top to bottom.

As Dennis Eckersley stated, they have six 8th inning type setup men for Pappelbon right now.

Lucky or good?

BB/K ratio for some of their relievers:
Papelbon 16/32
Ramirez 11/20
Delcarmen 13/22
Bard 9/15

Ramirez and Papelbon have given up homeruns close to the same rate as Brad Penny and Penny has an ERA around five

That stat is misleading. Brad Penny got off to a horrible start yielding 5 homers in 17.2 innings during 5 starts with an ERA of 8.66 in the month of April.

As of today he has yielded a total of only 8 home runs on the season and his era is down to 4.93 in 76.2 IP. Since May 1st Penny has allowed only 3 home runs. 1 to Ian Kinsler of the Rangers at Fenway, 1 to Adam Lind in Toronto and 1 to Michael Cuddyer in Minnesota.

Jonathon Papelbon has yielded 3 homers in 29 appearances and 30 innings pitched all year. 1 to Joe Mauer in Minnesota, 1 to Omir Santos of The Mets in Fenway and 1 to Tori Hunter in Anaheim. He has 17 saves (1 BS) with an ERA of 1.80.

AL save leader Brian Fuentes of The Angels (20 saves - 3 BS) has yielded 2 homers in 24 innings pitched with an ERA of 4.07.

Obviously allowing an occasional homer is not productive for any pitcher but the stat has to be examined further than simply the number allowed for the entire season.

There is no such thing as a misleading stat. Only our inability to understand what it means. Penny has pitching a lot better than an ERA of 4.92 would usually indicate; Ramirez (and a few other Boston relievers) haven't pitched as well as a 1.95 ERA would usually indicate
