WARREN PULLS ANOTHER "WARREN" ON SHOWTIME!
"""""""There is nothing "Cut & Dry" when it comes to the dealings of English Promoter Frank Warren. This past weekend Warren had his charge Ricky Hatton (35-0, 26 KO’s) in real tough with unbeaten Kelson Pinto, (20-0, 18 KO’s). But two days prior to the Showtime televised event, Pinto was replaced by a Scandinavian 135 lber. "Dennis the Menace" Pederson. Warren claimed that Pinto had fallen ill and could not appear in this Interim WBO 140 lb. title fight. As could be predicted, Hatton manhandled the unprepared and out-gunned Dane Pederson inside of three heats.
LET’S GET SOME THINGS STRAIGHT!
Before we go any further let’s bring a few facts to light. The Brazilian Pinto is handled by California based Manager Ricardo Maldonado Sr. A hell of a puncher, Pinto is "Highly Touted" in circles that extend beyond his native South America. That being said, Showtime is said to have paid $500,000 for the fight. Sky TV reportedly kicked in another $500 K and the "Live" gate for a packed MEN Arena in Manchester, UK was close to $2 million U.S. dollars. And Warren wanted Pinto to fight for $60,000!
WARREN NEVER HAD AN INKED CONTRACT!
As it turns out Pinto and Maldonado Sr. had never penned their names on a Contract to fight Hatton! And yet Warren continued to promote Hatton-Pinto, which unlike Hatton-Pederson, it was a "Real" fight all the way up until Wednesday! And Frank Warren did so even though he knew Maldonado wouldn’t let Pinto get on a plane without having a purse agreement and a signed Contract. One source real close to the fight said Warren tried to give Pinto $60 K for a fight that was to have grossed close to $3 million. Looking for something closer to $500 K, Maldonado and Pinto instead stayed home!
WAS JAY IN ON LAST MINUTE "WARREN-PLOY?"
Everybody thought that Showtime’s new schedule of having fights on the first Saturday of each month was a good thing for the fans. Some Media types have long felt the #2 Cable TV provider of boxing has shortchanged the followers of the fistic science. In other words, viewers want "Real" fights and not an exhibition as Hatton’s third round execution of Pederson was. Knowing the business like I do, I can’t imagine Showtime knowingly being caught with their pants down here!
COULD WARREN HAVE PHOTOS OF JAY?
One has to wonder why VP Jay Larkin of Showtime "Can’t fall up, he just falls down! You can’t tell me this longtime Showtime VP didn’t know Pinto hadn’t signed! That is a MAJOR part of his job scope! Am I supposed to think that Showtime would advertise a fight of this magnitude without a pact signed by both participants? Please, nobody is that naïve. As for Warren and Larkin, their seemingly incestuous relationship again appears to be dragging down the quality of the Showtime Championship Boxing. But the people that run Viacom which owns Showtime seem to care less! But then, so did ESPN.
HATTON WON’T FIGHT ANYBODY "CLOSE" TO BEING GOOD!
Although Hatton has a good left hook to the body and a fair jab, the Brit has little other than a good following and Frank Warren’s guidance. Fights with World champ Kostya Tszyu, Sharmba Mitchell or Paul Spadafora will never come to light because of two things! Frank Warren’s lack of confidence in Hatton, and his insatiable greed! For to offer a sharpie like Maldonado $60,000 when there’s over $3 million in the pot, this to me proves both points!""""""
i said i never understood why hatton would take a tough,non-title fight with a seriously dangerous opponent like pinto..it didn`t make sense.....this goes a long way to explaining the whole mess...
if it`s true,it basically means that frank warren never had any intention of having hatton in the ring with pinto.....and it`s possible, that if showtime knew there was no signed contract, they basically sold the show under false pretenses...after garnering a s-itpot load of interest in what would have been one helluva fight....
don king and bob arum don`t have a thing on their sleazy european counterrparts frank warren and klaus-peter kohl...
thank you,pedro fernandez....
