Gotbookie,

"Please note that not all books stiff or cheat their clerks. I know clerks who make twice the rate you mentioned."

Of course not all, I believe I said a couple of books. I know clerks that started new jobs at the beginning of last football season at twice the amount mentioned. Just for the record I didn't quote that price I took it from someone else's post.

WildBill,

"As for the 50k comment, the reason why all these fees are so high..."

You consider 50k high considering what a successful sportsbook makes? What if they had wanted to charge a standard 10% of net profit like standard small businesses (S.A., Sociedades Anonimas) here.

jj,

"I HAVE NEVER UNDERSTOOD A MUMBLE MOUTHED COSTA RICAN, WOMEN ARE WHORES AND BITCHES."

No worse than your mom jj, look how you turned out, she must be some piece of work.

"LIVING CONDITIONS LIKE THE GHETTO"

So I guess you've never been here.

"FILTHIEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, I WONDER HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE DISEASES THERE?????"

Again so I guess you've never been here. Yeah, almost as filthy as Panama or Belize. How many people in the States have diseases?

JJ,

Sounds like you're describing New Jersey instead of Costa Rica.

Lets all be nice here. No need to be rude to eachother. Opinions are just that "opinions".

Many good points have been brought up here. I for one plan on staying in CR, however still feel you can't ignore that CR isn't "as good" as it was for the books in the past.

Good luck to all.

I should have qualified my previous answer: Finding good clerks at a more affordable cost would be a windfall for the books that remain behind in CR.

The going rate for a break in clerk should be no more than $3.00 hour + all the fringe benefits, paid 13 month etc.

When too many books moved to CR, the hourly rate moved up to $5.00 + / hour.

Hey, when you have to pay 2.00 an hour more for 150 clerks, it adds up, especially if you don't lay off the excess help after foots.

The trouble is most books want to pay in cash and ignore the legalities.

This works great for both the book and the clerk - until the clerk is fired and then goes crying to the work ministry (or threatens to). IMO books would be a lot better off if they just stuck to the legal system instead of trying to run it like it was still an illegal biz in the US.

People seeking to protect their legal rights are crybabies?

Not at all. But if you enter into a situation where a manager says to you "ok you can have your pay in $US cash and you don't get an alginaldo or benefits OR you can go on the CCSS and pay social security and get paid in colones and 13% deductions and alginaldo. You choose."

If you opt for the first option - then no you don't have a right to go crying to the ministry.

50k for a sportsbook to show football games is very high because not only does it come out of fairly meager profits, it also takes money away from the casino because players are watching games for free and not "donating" to the casino. At least that is the view in the eyes of casino management. Further Vegas sportsbooks make very little for the most part. They have good and bad months, but if you average it out after salaries and incidental costs, there is almost nothing made there. In light of that paying about $100k just for subscriptions for sporting events is a real factor in profitability. Books are merely there to offer a full set of gaming options for customers, certainly not because they make money.
