Personally, I think the war is going pretty well and I'm not going to claim that the alleged chemical weapons facility is the 'smoking gun' yet - I'll wait to see what the experts confirm and report. One would question what else would have been camouflaged, surrounded by an electrified fence and protected by a contingent of Republican Guards along with a general (some of the Guards were caught in the process of hastily changing into civilian clothes, reportedly), and where reports indicate that Special Forces have recovered documentation possibly leading them to other chem/bio sites, but I for one am not going to 'bite' until proof comes out. Gotta be careful in wartime.

People may ask why the US didn't tell Blix about this site, if the US did indeed know about it ahead of time. The answer, according to a former UN inspector attached with the prior UNSCOM 1991-era teams, is that the information has to pass 3 different reviews with different people involved each time, and that the Iraqi intelligence is/was so good that they would often (if not always) know in advance which sites would be targeted and simply 'disappear' the materials ahead of the inspection. So if the US had told the UN about this site, if it does pan out to be a chemical munitions factory and/or storage facility, it is likely it would have been long gone before Blix's Boyz showed up.

I'll go further than that - I suspect the US did indeed give intelligence to the UN about more minor sites, initially openly and later intentionally in order to confirm the leaks that allowed the Iraqis to find out about them and close the sites. I think the US finally got fed up with the 'game'.

As I said before in another posting, wait. For those who believe any evidence that the US eventually shows will be 'manufactured', there's nothing one can show them, I suppose.

The Cardiff study, for example, shows that 86% of the broadcast news reports that mentioned weapons of mass destruction during the invasion of Iraq "suggested Iraq had such weapons", while "only 14% raised doubts about their existence or possible use". The claim by British and US forces that Iraq had fired illegal Scud missiles into Kuwait was reported 27 times on British news programmes. It was questioned on just four occasions: once by Sky and three times by Channel 4 News. The BBC even managed to embellish the story: its correspondent Ben Brown suggested that the non-existent Scuds might have been loaded with chemical or biological warheads.
