I like the Cards mainly because of the ebb and flow of a series. I don't think this series is a mismatch. Cards need it bad and they have alot of talent.

SHRINK and OLDMAN TED make terrific points both..........however, the art of sportsbetting is dealing with the intangible factors that most amatuer gamblers overlook.

ANY(well most) astute gamblers knows everything that SHRINK and OMT have pointed out.

Folks, this is the BOSTON RED SOX we are talking about here.

They are NOT going to get much off Pedro tomorrow and Foulke has been completely lights out. So thats a narrow range in between Pedro and Foulke where St. Louis has an edge.

They can win this game anyway 3-2 or 4-3 or 2-0 or something, but Suppan is going to HAVE TO COME UP VERY BIG. I don't see much reason to believe he will.

Home field is big, but having better pitching match-ups would help St. Louis a lot more. They were outclassed in game 2 and not as much in 3, but they are still outclassed.

My Vote- Pedro Martinez on 7 days rest, in his biggest start ever, reaches back and throws his arm halfway out for 7 innings and delivers a strong start. St. Louis is good enough on offense, they get something off him, but not a lot.

So Suppan either matches that or St. louis goes bust. If Boston shells Suppan ( Possible) its over early.

FWIW I hope the Red Sox win

but the Cards entire season is on the line tomorrow night. Does anyone really think we will have two consecutive 3 games to none comebacks this playoff season? The Cards MUST win which makes them all the more dangerous. In the end it is still baseball and anything can happen. I have a sneaky suspicion Pedro will have excellent stuff to start the game- does that mean a Sox win? Only time will tell.

Best of luck to all, wil.

oldmanTed,

Your post defending the Red Sox is an excellent one and I guess that's why they play the games. I, too, have been all over the Red Sox, betting them every game since they were down 0-2 to the Yankees...

However, you make this BOSOX team sound like they are the BEST THING since the advent of the computer. While they are a great team, they are clearly mortal and lost 3 consecutive games to an overrated Yankee team before winning their last 6...

Clearly, Boston comes into Busch Stadium with all the momentum, but I believe you are not only overrating their team, but more importantly, PEDRO MARTINEZ is simply not the best Pitcher on Boston as of late, whereas Suppan has show he is the Cardinal's ACE and he matches up very well with his counterpart...

Baseball is a game of streaks, and they all come to an end. If ever there is a time for the CARDINALS to show how mortal BOSTON is, it will be at HOME tomorrow night in what is their most important game of the year.

This St. Louis team won over ONE HUNDRED games because they are quite good. The Red Sox defended their Home Field advantage but the Cards showed their RESILIANCY coming back from a 5 run deficit in Game 1 to tie it up in the 8th inning. I remember another team coming back also from 8 runs in their first Game against the Yankees, only to lose that game, but coming back from a 0-3 deficit to WIN THE SERIES...

While I don't think the Cardinals will beat the Red Sox in this SERIES, they are certainly good enough to avoid being swept on their HOME FIELD and I believe tomorrow night's game is their BEST SHOT at avoiding a sweep...

Yes, Boston may be playing at a high level, but don't underestimate another team that has proven all year long that they deserve to be in the World Series...

TED-

FYI, a LARGE play for me is no MORE than 2x my average bet.

POSTERS- BET WITH YOUR HEAD, NEVER OVER IT!

Well said TED. I am sure some of your bigger plays are not big for me, and again, I reitterate, this does fill the criteria for me to bet it BIG. To have the biggest game of the year at 6-5 odds (most important point), playing at HOME with THEIR ACE on the mound makes me salivate..

Best of Luck to you too Ted and everyone else who bets the game...

I LOVE the CARDINALS, period...

I have to say I am a bit surprised...I thought it would have been a team wager...anything can happen in a baseball game...line drive to knee or hand; then its the bullpen and its wide open....like a tennis bet, when one individual has so much influence on the outcome its a risk.

Have to pass on this tip....GL to all...I'll just watch. G

I still think Virginia Tech is the game to look at this week....it opened at -2 on Sunday and is now -4.5 on Monday night. I live in Atlanta...Tech sucks.

Best of luck to you and all others as well. That being meaningfully said, don't appreciate your comment regarding the size of my bigger plays not being big for you. I have always refrained from stating the size of my plays and for you to imply something of which you have no knowledge is inappropriate. You don't know me, my financial status or my level of play. You, sir, just stepped over the line.

glaken,

I used to live in Atlanta and attended Emory University...

I heard that the Coach and Six Restaurant is no more and it happened years ago...

That was one of my favorite places to dine out...

oldmanTed,

You completely misunderstood what I meant and I don't appreciate you implying that I took a shot at you when I didn't. What I meant is that what you consider to be a BIG BET isn't a BIG BET necessarily for me or vice versa..

I deliberately used YOUR language which was implying that a BIG bet had to do with IMPORTANCE rather than actual dollars...

Intonation and meaning sometimes gets lost on these forums. Sorry you misinterpreted what I had to say...

I think he was referring to he may like a game large that you dont & you may like a game large that he doesnt....

do not think he was reffering too dollar amounts.....

correct me If I am wrong but that is how I read it....

that being said I can see how it might be read the other way aswell....

Alright! Better understood. I thought you were talking about dollars not level of importance. In that event, please except my apology for misunderstanding and once again the best of luck to you tomorrow night.

Emory is impressive sir. The Harvard of the South. My Bro-in-law, now ex, went to seminary there. Tough place to get a Pepsi.

I knew it well Shrink....I won't call you Ken until we have met someday.

I was a frequent customer....I don't recall the ladies name that maintained the property after her husband died in the early 80's...she kept it open until the early 90's when I believe she suffered a stroke. We use to call it the colonial spot since the address was 1776 Peactree. Ah...the old days..when The ATL was a small town.

My Mom and Uncle are at CDC on Clifton so I imagine you have been to Everybody's Pizza.

BTW, My Dad's side of the family is from Richmond and King and Queen County, Saluda that is.
