Well the main Reason why the Reformation was instituted bc of the abuses within the Catholic Church - Luther who was a Catholic Priest was sent by the cardinal to Rome and he was astounded -sexual abuses The pope was scandalous and theywould usurp the people by selling indulgences and any one who opposed them was burned at the stake -and they burned plenty -Luther survived because the printing press wrote about these abuses and Protestantism was founded - Protest of the Catholic Church / btw you also were banned if you read the Bible and were ostracized for doing so. Today the CC recognized there mistakes, but they still Say that Sacred Oral Tradition trumps biblical scripture which I find very problematic-as Luther stated Here I stand on Sola Scriptura the bible is Gods Word -Salvation by Grace not by good works that we do or Merit which most Catholics still hold fast. 1/3 or the Catholic members do rely on the Bible and are very close to the Protestant faith!
