Gameface and whoever is entitled to their opinion ... I lived in a 3rd world country and most Americans should shut their flappin traps up right now ... ya dont know how good ya truely have it ... 1/3 of the world tries to get by on less than $2 per day!!!
Our poorest poor are living as royalty compared to the several hundred million Dalit in India
By the way, while the USA is year after year the largest philanthropic nation, that philanthropy is less than .2% of our Gross National Product. Powel admitted this is true this morning.
That is two-tenths-of-one-percent. Imagine if we gave just 1%!
For example, one of our USD is = to 45 rupees. The average salary of a middle-class man in Bangalore, India is 3,300 rupees...that is $73/year.
It takes only about $300 USD to feed and clothe an orphan for an entire year. That is about 82 cents a day. Most of us spend more than that at the candy machine every day. We will spend $4 for a cup of coffee at Starbucks...or $1.50 for a bottled water over lunch...but we start crowing "how dare they" when the world actually challenges our gluttony and selfishness?!
The leverage is unfathomable. A little bit of our blessings can go a long way in this hurting world. There are 700 million children in India that only get 3 or 4 MEALS A WEEK!
Do you all realize that they will never ever know the full body count? Do you know why? Because tens of thousands of orphans run the city streets (every India city) competing with the dogs and cattle for scraps. Many of those orphans were washed away. No one here on earth knows how many there were. How many are gone forever?!
DO you know that the startup costs for an orphanage for 135 children in the Bangalore area is about $35,000. That includes the building, kitchen, dormitory rooms, clothing, furniture, food, and school supplies. We have spent how many hundresds of millions in every city in the USA for our sports palaces?
India is just one hurting country. Multiply the pain across Africa, across other parts of Asia, across Iraq, and Afganistan...how many hundred million will lay down with no dinner tonight with no bed or roof?
I hate the United NAtions and everything it stands for. I love the USA. But on this one, the UN is correct. The USA should hang its collective head in shame.
