Sez Me …
Honestly, when it comes to perfect crime, the Patriots are the Watergate burglars.
But we skeptical members of Deflation Nation soon can expect Commissioner Roger Goodell to insist neither he nor any of his NFL bloodhounds have seen tape of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady dragging a shrunken football out of an Atlantic City casino elevator.
Meanwhile, it’s been revealed that, after intercepting a Brady pass, Colts’ DB D’Qwell Jackson suspected the ball was severely deflated when credit cards and photos of Gisele Bundchen fell out of it.
Or something like that.
Goodell and his gumshoes (over 40 interviews, no players, thus far) continue to look into allegations the Patriots -- coached by Belichick and quarterbacked by Tom Brady -- played at least the first half of their AFC Championship Game romp over Indianapolis with footballs illegally deflated to conform to Tom’s taste.
Since then, Belichick twice denied any knowledge of footballs or their PSI, adding he pays no attention to them (when, in fact, he is the ultimate control freak and probably counts blades of grass per square yard on the practice field). He then essentially threw his great quarterback under the team bus, telling the assembled media to talk to Brady about it.
Brady spoke Thursday afternoon and, to his credit, answered questions for a half-hour. Not to his credit, he denied any knowledge of deliberate deflation, although he handled the football continuously.
All quarterbacks check; they get a feel for game balls. Brady had to know they were to his liking, and I can’t for a second believe Belichick was unaware, because he is aware of everything, a major reason why he’s one of the game’s all-time captains.
I can’t buy that ball pressure affected the outcome of a 45-7 slaughter. The refs re-inflated the balls at halftime and Brady has no trouble throwing them straight after the break. But Bill never did say why only his footballs were deflated and not Indy’s.
Bunk.
The big but here is that, if they knowingly broke the rule, it’s cheating. Belichick has priors. He was caught cheating before, Spygate costing him $500,000 and a first-round draft choice. He knew. If that’s calling him a liar, fine. Unless he possibly filled footballs to Brady specs every week, are we to understand an equipment manager did it on his own? It still would be cheating.
As we head into a Super Bowl Week in Arizona that will find coach and quarterback being relentlessly pummeled by real and imagined media, I don’t get Belichick and his need to flaunt the rules. How can somebody so smart be dumb enough to get caught? Arrogance. Coaching paranoia.
Belichick totally has overseen the most unique dynasty in NFL history. He has done all this with one (1) certain Hall of Fame player (Brady). Every other so-called dynasty has multiple players in the Hall.
No coach has been more responsible for his team’s success. He has to be responsible for this. I don’t believe a word they’re saying.

And here’s hoping Goodell and his flatfoots, who have screwed up everything else lately, get this right. If they find Belichick guilty, he has to be suspended. Brady? A fine. …
If Goodell releases the findings prior to the Super Bowl, I will swoon like a Sinatra bobby-soxer …
Belichick’s comparing Russell Wilson to Roger Staubach is both coachspeak and idiotic (is that redundant?) at the same time …
I understand Mayor Faulconer will name his Chargers stadium “task force” this week and some local “heavy hitters” will be a part of it …
What if every QB refused to play in the Pro Bowl? Andy Dalton is a SEVENTH alternate …
The next Marshawn Lynch crotch grab will cost him 15 yards. Roseanne files a protest …
The Colts have suspended Trent Richardson for two games. This comes after Trent suspended himself for 16 …
Former Kentucky players are making a combined $105 million a year in the NBA. Pay cuts are a way of life in America …
Oh, and the Nationals will pay Matt Scherzer_ a pitcher! _ $81,967 each baseball season day for 14 years. He didn’t even go to Kentucky …
Barry Bonds is tutoring A-Rod? Pot going to kettle …
Ernie Banks. Class. RIP …
Kobe Bryant: Handwriting. Wall. Indelible ink …
Sports Illustrated bounces its photography staff. So much for my dream of making Faces in the Crowd.
