Go Sooners,

How concerned are you about the D? Please do not lose to UT.

I think the Offense is going to be the highest scoring team in the nation with Florida. Defensively, I think they are solid, but not going to be great like some of the D's under Stoops/Venebals.

Also, Wil Muschamp being the new DC at Texas and the Minor Blackbanana running the offense scares me. I still don't think Texas will be able to get past OU, but it will be tight.
Bigten...If your talking about OU's defense, I'm fairly concerned...What the Sooners have is a linebacker corp that's kind of patched together..The only experience there will be Ryan Reynolds...One of the best in the nation...But he's also been very injury prone in his career. If he goes down again we're going to be in trouble there.. He's been moved to the MLB this season..But the two young players beside him don't have expereince at the position..One will probably be a freshman..The other will be a converted SS. Behind the LB, the safety positions will be among the best in the country...But our CB position is a big concern. There will be two players making their first starts in a pass happy spread offense league who runs alot of no-huddle offenses..So these players will have to learn to adjust on the run.. I've also never been a big fan of co DC Bobby Jack Wright, who coaches the defensive backfield...So yeah, I do have some concerns..I think our defensive line will take some pressure off of the back seven...But overall, I have some doubts that OU's defense will be as good as last season..In regard to strengths and weaknesses of both units, I'm not sure OU's defense will be any better than the Texas defense..We'll know alot more when the season gets underway.

Ohio State football: Washington, O'Neal suspended for first two games -- (which includes USC)

Posted by Doug Lesmerises August 07, 2008 20:02PM

Ohio State defensive backs Donald Washington and Jamario O'Neal are both suspended for the first two games of the season. Both players confirmed their status this evening after months of speculation dating back to off-field matters in the spring.
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel had been vague about their punishment, but on Monday promised a resolution in the coming days. With all the Buckeye players available to the media today on team photo day, both players talked their status without disclosing exactly why they are in trouble.
Washington, a junior, is a starting cornerback, while O'Neal, a senior, had been in contention this spring to be the nickelback on passing downs.
Sophomore Chimdi Chekwa is the most likely candidate to replace Washington at corner for the first two games, while the nickelback job should be up for grabs during the preseason.

Ohio State plays against Youngstown State and Ohio U there first 2 games. They will be back for USC unless something happens.

Suspended Buckeyes conveniently available for USC

Conveniently for the Buckeyes, those games are against Youngstown State and Ohio.
They don’t play USC until Week 3.

It makes you wonder if the suspension would have been only for 1 week had the USC game been scheduled for W2. Hmmmmmm?

Conan,

You are smarter than that. Of course it would have only been for 1 game.

What up fellas I am new to the forum

I really like OSU this for covering the spread. There schedule is soft.

It will be interesting to see where the line is for the USC game.

The other games they might a hard time covering is Mich. & Mich St.
I don't think they have covered aginst Mich. in the last 3 years.

That gives about 8 games that dare to say might be good games to cover on.

The one hole I see in their offense is the QB that likes to hold the ball for ever.

Feedback? Thoughts?
Are you for real? OSU has covered at least the last 4 against Michigan.

Now that I think about it, OSU covered in 2001, winning straight up at the Big House to give Illinois the outright Big Ten Title. They covered in 2002, winning the national title. Can't remember what happened in 2003, but I'm pretty sure Michigan won and covered. And OSU covered the last 4 years, I'm sure. They OWN Michigan under Tressel.

Actually, maybe I'm wrong about 2006. I think Michigan might have gotten a backdoor td to cover. But the Buckeyes own Michigan nonetheless.

Michigan covered the spot in 2006 in Columbus in the last 2 minutes 42-39 as Ohio Sate was a 9 point favorite.

They did not cover the 7.5 have vs Michigan in 2006. Trust me, I know the Bullshit PI call on 4th and 10 with a 1 minute left. It was the largest wager I have ever made.

Wisky is their tougest road game, but they will have tough games at MSU. I don't think Illinois will be that good this year. I think people will realize that until Juice can be a consistent passer, they will not do anything. I look for Benn to be a player and for Zooker to get him the ball. MSU will be a very good team this year, but I think OSU's experience and talent will prevail.

The Wisky game is still a toss up. OSU has left 2 possible National Titles at Camp Randle in '93 and '03, so if they lost I wouldn't call it a suprise at all. Wisky has owned Tressel.

I am not saying OSU is like Memphis in CBB to win CUSA, but they should be able to win the league. OSU last season had a win total of 9, that was one of the easiest over bets ever. I have been wrong many times before, but this team is very good, probably Tressel's best team, I think they win the conference title. I have followed the Big10 religiously for 15 years, while you raise good points, I do believe that should be able to handle all challengers. Again, a Wisky loss would not shock me.

Well said, BTD. Some good points.

for those interested the YSU starting QB has less than 1 complete college game under his belt. THis YSU team is significantly inferior to last years. Tressel won't be able to keep the score down

I think the defense will shut them out however I believe Tressel has more class than to run up the score on this old team. Just my thoughts.

I agree YSU probably wont score a point.

No doubt OSU is a solid team, but IMO they are overrated every year and it's proven when they step on the field against the generally faster teams in the SEC at bowl time. (See: FLA, LSU).

I see USC handling them easily when they travel to the Coliseum next month, and I also see Wisconsin as a strong candidate to beat them this year as well since we all know it's not easy to go into Madison and come out on top. Not stating that the Badgers definitely win, but it looks like the best chance for OSU to falter in the conference.

With that said, I think with one loss in the Big 10, they either win the conference or get an at-large BCS since all the other games seem like no-brainer OSU wins. If they match up with any of the SEC teams in the BCS, I'd go out on a limb and take the SEC team SU.
