CFL THURSDAY: ( 2 UNITS )

CALGARY / WINNIPEG OV-48.5 -103 ($206/$200) PINNACLE

Been waiting for this game all week! Last week the Stampeders would have beaten the defending Grey-cup champs Toronto Argonauts had QB Henry Burris not thrown those two horrible INT's, and two of his very own fumbles. Even with his 4 turnovers, Calgary still managed to stay close to a team that had every defensive player return. How did they do it? DEFENSE! I know it's early, but if you saw that game you would have gotten the Idea like me that the Calgary defense is going to remind you of 2004. The "D" just seemed to come up with big plays as the game went on. And the fact that they only gave up 22 pts on 331 yards (22 Rush.) to Toronto, tells me Winnipeg is in big trouble tonight!

Winnipeg QB Tee Martin only managed 12-28 for 107 yds last week against Edmonton. Winnepeg (0-2), has already given up 69 pts in two games. They are ranked 9th in total defense, 7th vs the rush, and 8th against the pass. Also they will be without their best reciever today in Milt Stegel (6-98 yds). Winnipegs best down linemen Antwone Young and Joe fleming only have 1 sack apiece. That spells great for Calgary QB Burris who himself threw for 275 yds last week against a great defense.

PREDICTION: CALGARY 36 WINNIPEG 20

FRIDAY JULY, 8TH

CFL FRIDAY: ( 5 UNITS )

EDMONTON ML (+160) over MONTREAL ($500/$800)

Montreal doesn't deserve to be mad about anything from last week's 4th quarter meltdown against Ottawa. Leading 33-10, Montreal gave up 23 unanswered points in my opinion on bad play calling! Montreal was up 33-30 with less than a minute to go on like the 35 yard line of Ottawa, when instead of kicking a fied goal into a little wind, head coach Don Matthews opted to go for it on 4th and 1! He puts QB Anthony Calvillo in a shotgun position and he invaribly throws an incomplete! Afterward the camaras were on Cavillo and you could tell he was p*ssed at the play call.Mathews better not try that against Edmonton or he'll get his walking papers handed to him before he even hits the locker room.

Edmonton is coming in 2-0 after whacking Winnipeg last week 27-8, and shellacking Ottawa in week-1 41-16. They've done it behind QB Ricky Ray, a trillo of recievers and incredible defense. Ever since Ricky Ray's 2003 grey-cup win and him bolting to the NFL, he hasn't missed a beat. He's completed 69% of his passes, has 4 TD's, and is on pace to throw 7,400 yards. The dude is on fire! Montreal's inexperienced secondary will have no answere for what's about to hit them tonight. More than the offense, the Edmonton defense is the leagues elite this year. In just two short weeks, thay already have 13 QB sacks! DT Rashad Jeanty has been a one man wrecking crew with 4 sacks, and his linemate Cedrick Scott already has 3! Former Safty and now Linebacker Steve Marsh should be a league leader in tackles this year. He had 5 in week-1 against Ottawa and had a forced fumble.

Talk about a recieving core, Edmonton is blessed with three of them! First is T.C.U. grad Jason Tucker. He has 196 yds on just 8 receptions (24.5 avg), coupled with 3-TD's! In week-1, he was 4-150 and 2TD. Ottawa CB Bo Rogers said after the game "I thought I was playing Blind out there." when asked about J.Tucker. On one of his TD's, he cought a 105 yarder for a team record! Next there's League leader Derrell Mitchell with 17-273-1. He's actually Rick Ray's favorite sure handed target. Lastly you have wideout Edward Hervey who is second in the league behind Mitchell with receptions (16) and fourth in yards with (190). Look, Montreal couldn't beat this team this year if R.Ray had one hand tied behind his back. I would normally take the points in this one, but at +160 it's a no brainer!

A loser tonight but I love your heart. You have been LAYING IT ON THE LINE the last couple of days. I also loved FH today but the +303 was difficult to resist against a team that is contending in Iceland. Looking forward to your picks in August. We are ALL doing our homework NOW.

Word "to" the wise:
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN - League 1 Champions +900
BRISTOL CITY - League 1 Champions +650
Both of these are very good futures. Not trying to be "wise". Just trying to bury the hatchet.

Good Luck

Mark, thanks for that post. I too need to extend my hand to you. You are on fire in the league man! And I'm genuinely happy for you. Tonights game really broke my heart. I'm num right now. Hey man, thanks for throwing that hatchett away. I'd like to think of you as a teammate in the future, not an opponent. Anyway, I gotta go tell the wife the bad news on Edmonton. She knows somethings wrong. I promised her no CFL this week, so I think I'm in the doghouse tonight. Later Mark!
