Texas Longhorns vs Purdue Boilermakers

Tip Time: 8:40 PM EST

Play: Texas (+3.5) and ML +135
Chris Beard has Matt Painter’s Purdue number. Whether it was Little Rock or Texas Tech, when the two meet in the tournament Beard’s team comes out on top, and that’s not going to change with it being the Longhorns under Beard’s stewardship. In large part due to his “no middle” defense that has been brilliant all season, even when the offense has sputtered —- The Longhorns are top-20 on defense in finishing at the rim and top-10 against post-ups. They swarm to the ball and apply a ton of ball pressure, and that’s a major reason why they have some advantages against the Purdue backcourt which has struggled against pressure at times this year.
On the other side look for Texas to find success operating on offense; Purdue doesn’t turn the oppositions over, thus they won’t be able to take advantage of the Longhorns' propetency to cough up the ball. Moreover, Purdue has been gauged in the Mid-Range all season long, which has the combination of Christian Bishop and Timmy Allen salivating.
Matchups make games, and Beard’s philosophy has proven tailor-made to combat Purdue's front-court-centric attack. The third time won’t be the charm for Painter and Purdue as they go home before the second weekend.
