Georgia owns the longest active streak as a betting favorite in the nation, a 49-game run that is poised to end Saturday against top-ranked Texas.
The Longhorns were consensus 5-point favorites over the Bulldogs on Friday. The line opened early in the week with Texas as a 3.5-point favorite, but a flurry of bets on the Longhorns hit multiple sportsbooks Wednesday, causing the spread to move to as high as -5.5 before settling at -5.
Texas remained a popular bet at sportsbooks entering the weekend. At BetMGM, more bets had been placed -- and more money wagered -- on Texas minus the points than any other team on the board.
Fanatics Sportsbook reported Thursday that the Longhorns had attracted six times as much money from bettors as any other team on Saturday's college football slate. The money wagered on Texas this week at Fanatics was already more than the total amount wagered on the Ohio State-Oregon game last week. Approximately 90% of the money bet on the Georgia-Texas spread was on the Longhorns at Fanatics.
"[Texas] is definitely shaping up to be one of the biggest sides of the season," Max Meyer, senior editor for Fanatics Sportsbook, said in a release.
The action was much more balanced at ESPN BET, with Texas garnering approximately 52% of the bets and money wagered on the point spread.
Georgia has not been a betting underdog in a game since the 2021 season opener against Clemson. Alabama owns the longest all-time streak of being favored. The Crimson Tide were favored in 92 consecutive games, a streak that began in 2015 and ended with the 2021 SEC championship game against Georgia.

Texas is still Big 12 in my way of thinking, until Texas plays a SEC schedule for a full year

That's how I look at this game

Georgia is of course solid SEC, I’ll take the +5 even though I do not think they’re as good as their last several years

Georgia has not faced a team as talented as Texas. The Horns will make a statement Saturday night in Austin! I'm not sure that the SEC is ready for Texas!

I did not go to Georgia or any SEC school. I am not biased by that.

Texas is solid but I’m not impressed by wins over sub par Michigan and Oklahoma. Georgia is loaded with 5 star beef and Texas has not gone against a top passer like Beck.

GA +5

GA +5

Texas is every bit as loaded with talent as Georgia is. Both teams are very good. I think that it will be a high scoring game, with Texas pulling it out late and solidifying their position as the best team in CFB.

Yes Texas is talented, but I have done well with conference vs conference wagering strategies, and have looked at teams changing conferences for over a decade the way I suggest today with this game. Eg, cleaned up for years going against the Pac 12 in bowls, then that ended a few yrs ago. There are sometimes incredible advantages to this approach.

SO to me, Texas is a Big 12 team. Really. And Texas has played a much easier schedule so far, according to Sagarin. Texas has a relatively easy SEC schedule this yr, too, that should help their playoff hopes. In the Big 12, Texas and Oklahoma are accustomed to 2 or so losses per yr, over the next five years in the SEC they will struggle to maintain that.

Georgia, so far, seems not to be as good as they have been the last several years, but by the same token they might be the best team in the old SEC. Not big, but I like Georgia +5 in this spot, Should be a tremendous game, we shall see.

Fair points, Serbone. However, I disagree that Texas is a "Big 12 team". Not anymore. Sark has built the roster from the trenches out. Texas has SEC type linemen on both sides of the ball. It starts there. Sark coached in the SEC and he knows what it takes to compete and win there. He started building this program to be ready to compete in the SEC the day that it was announced that Texas was joining the conference.

Maybe this is what Texas needed. No shame in losing to a top 5 team. Georgia or Texas may still get in the CFP with two losses. Texas will be fine. Sark has built a program that will be a factor.

Texas hadn’t beaten anybody

When I saw Oklahoma got hammered by South Carolina,, and Michigan failed, too, I got some more GA, though just +4

Texas has a relatively easy SEC schedule but VD, FLA, Ark, KY, A&M still could result in another loss or two.

No Bama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, or Missouri.

No easy games like the Big 12, almost every SEC team is talented.

I can see LSU winning it all with their defense. I don't think Ga or bama the best this year. Tenn looks good but their QB I am not sure of
