Im running it at least a year and see how it peforms. Im running 2 models this playoffs: this exact one and other one with some tweaks and see how it goes. But yeah, at least start using it for real (if it works) on march/april next year. How many simulations do you plan on running?
Couldn't you use the previous seasons to back test it, or would the data be to old? You must be using data that is current and relevant, and changing from day to day. That's the way to go.Im running it at least a year and see how it peforms. Im running 2 models this playoffs: this exact one and other one with some tweaks and see how it goes. Im also working on a MLB model that last year gave pretty good results. I just need a around 2 months of the new season to collect data and start posting picks.
Perhaps 15-20 years ago, you could use information from previous seasons, but in my view, the game has changed a lot. Everything is computerized, everything is meticulously researched as teams change day by day. Moreover, player movement between teams has increased significantly in recent years; nobody is loyal to their team anymore, they are loyal to their bank account. So, I believe that's why using data from previous seasons isn't very useful.Couldn't you use the previous seasons to back test it, or would the data be to old?
