CB Justin Gilbert is a surprise inactive for the Browns. The eighth overall pick in the 2014 draft got a good amount of playing time in Cincinnati, but is a healthy scratch vs. the Steelers.
CB DeAngelo Hall is active for the Redskins today. But LB Keenan Robinson and WR Andre Roberts are inactive. Also inactive: QB Robert Griffin III, CB Quinton Dunbar, DE Frank Kearse, G Arie Kouandjio, TE Anthony McCoy.
Ben Roethlisberger will be the backup QB against the Browns, with Landry Jones the starter. Inactives for the Steelers: QB Mike Vick, S Shamarko Thomas, RB Isaiah Pead, LB Terence Garvin, OT Byron Stingily, TE Matt Spaeth and LB James Harrison.
So no surprise, Rams WR Wes Welker is active. Look for him in third-down packages. We'll see how many snaps but he's up and ready to play after just signing on Monday. Rams hoping he can help their league-worst third-down conversion rate.
Rams getting three important starters back from injury against the Bears. That includes DE Robert Quinn (knee), OT Rob Havenstein (ankle) and S T.J. McDonald (foot). That trio missed last week’s game against Minnesota for fear that they could turn a shorter injury into a 3-4 week one. They’re expected to start today
Saints LT Terron Armstead is active today after testing out his nagging knee injury before the game. Armstead didn’t practice all week, but he has played through the injury the past three weeks. Rookie Andrus Peat will back him up if needed. Veteran OT Tony Hills is inactive.
Newly-signed Saints QB Matt Flynn is inactive today, so rookie Garrett Grayson will back up Drew Brees if needed. Also inactives against the Redskins today: OT Tony Hills and DL Kaleb Eulls. CB Damian Swann and LBs Dannell Ellerbe, David Hawthorne, Ramon Humber were previously ruled out.
Ravens C Jeremy Zuttah (shoulder) is active after being questionable for Sunday's game. This will mark his 65th straight game, the fifth-longest streak among active interior offensive linemen.
Decision to sit DT Dwan Edwards another week in part because Kyle Love is playing well and in part to give the ankle another week. Panthers sitting Brenton Bersin means QB Joe Webb will be the fifth receiver.
Ben Roethlisberger as the Steelers backup quarterback, as Britt McHenry reported, becomes solidified with Mike Vick's place on the inactive list for today's Browns fans. Landry Jones is starting for the Steelers. If Jones struggles mightily or gets hurt, the Steelers can go to Big Ben.
Quite an inactive list today for the Browns. It includes four first-round draft picks: CB Justin Gilbert, CB Joe Haden, S Donte Whitner (in Buffalo) and WR Dwayne Bowe (in Kansas City). It also includes four starters -- QB Josh McCown, Haden, Whitner and OG Joel Bitonio -- and two players expected to be major contributors -- GIlbert and Bowe.
Big thing to watch for today is whether Redskins can exploit Saints’ passing defense for big plays, which has been New Orleans’ Achilles heel. The Saints, who rank 31st on D, lead the NFL with 10 passing plays allowed of 44 yards or more. The Redskins, who rank 29th on O, are the only team in the league without a passing play of 44-plus
[/h]In addition to reliable in high-priced names such as Rob Gronkowski and Todd Gurley, Matthew is going with the Redskins' combo of Kirk Cousins and Jordan Reed.
