NFL : 2* BUFFALO

The Buffalo Bills started the season 0-4 and now after winning and covering 6 straight their destiny is somewhat in their hands in that they need a win today as well as a Jets or Denver loss to advance to the playoffs. HC Mike Mularkey is one of a pair of Pittsburgh connections involved in this game.

Mularkey spent the early 90’s as the Steelers TE coach and up until last season was their OC for 3 years. He’s overseen an offense that has scored 33 points or more over their 6 game run and a rejuvenated QB in Drew Bledsoe who despite spending much time on his back (OL allowed 34 sacks although they’ve given up 1 or less in 6 of the last 9 games) has also completed 57% of his passes for 2743 yards and 20 TD.

The former WSU Cougar has also cut down on his INT the last few weeks while also discovering the speed-burning R from Wisconsin, Lee Evans, who has caught 46 passes for 780 yards with 9 TD. Eric Moulds is still the #1 guy with 1006 yards and 5 TD and Willis McGahee has done his part by topping 1000 yards with 11 TD.

Pittsburgh has lost only once this season and that was against the Baltimore Ravens in a game that opened the door for Big Ben to step in and run off 13 straight wins. Tommy Maddox started that game and was forced into duty last week against the Ravens after Roethlisberger suffered bruised ribs and was taken out late. Pittsburgh got their revenge last week and clinched home field so there is zero sense of urgency on that side of the field today.
