It has been 14 weeks since the Atlanta Falcons and the visiting New Orleans Saints met in the season opener.
The rebuilt Falcons were the better team for much of the game, but the Saints outscored them 17-3 in the fourth quarter to win 27-26 in Dennis Allen's debut as head coach.
Both teams came out of the opener encouraged about the prospects for their seasons, but things haven't gone as they had hoped as the NFL South rivals prepare to meet again Sunday in New Orleans.
The Saints (4-9) are nearing elimination from the division race while the Falcons (5-8) are turning to rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder to try to trigger a push for the division title during the last four games
"This is what they've been preparing me for," said Ridder, who will be making his NFL debut
Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith said the decision to replace Marcus Mariota was performance-based, though Mariota was placed on injured reserve Wednesday as he awaits season-ending surgery to repair a lingering knee issue.
The Falcons are tied with Carolina for second place in the division, one game behind Tampa Bay. Atlanta hosts the Buccaneers in the season finale.
"We are close but we need to get over that hump," Smith said. "I have confidence in Desmond. There's a risk any time you make a move, but you have to be willing to take that if you want to break through and get out of this up-and-down inconsistency."
In addition to the one-point loss to the Saints, the Falcons have lost five other games by fewer than seven points.
Both teams are coming off their bye week, which was helpful in the Falcons' transition to Ridder as well as an opportunity for the Saints to have what Allen called "a reset." The Saints' chance to move into the thick of the division race vanished as Tampa Bay's Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes in the final three minutes to beat visiting New Orleans 17-16 on Dec. 5.
New Orleans generally has been competitive as four of its nine losses have come in one-score games, but three of the last four losses have been by 10 or more points.
"You can look at multiple games where if we had done this or that, we'd be sitting in a completely different spot than we are," Saints quarterback Andy Dalton said. "But that's how it goes in the NFL where most of the games are one-score games."
Allen said the Saints have had "discussions" about how to get more productivity from running back Alvin Kamara, who has been one of the most productive all-around backs since entering the league in 2017 but who has had an off year in 2022.
"Alvin's a good football player," Allen said, "so we have to find ways to allow him to be the playmaker that he's been for us in the past."
New Orleans had 13 players on its injury report Wednesday, most notably three starters who were limited -- defensive end Cameron Jordan (foot), linebacker Pete Werner (ankle) and cornerback Marshon Lattimore (abdomen).
Atlanta is getting healthier with offensive linemen Elijah Wilkinson (knee) and Matt Hennessy (knee) as well as linebacker Arnold Ebiketie (forearm) all practicing fully Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers are both owners of 5-8 records. But these teams are in vastly different situations.
The Panthers are just a game out of first place in the NFC South. The Steelers are pretty much playing out the string unless they win this week and go on a major roll.
The two teams meet Sunday afternoon in Charlotte, N.C., hoping to find some late-season magic.
"Every game matters to everyone," Carolina quarterback Sam Darnold said. "It's a good opportunity for our team to be able to go out there and win and continue to play good football."
Darnold is playing games with playoff implications in December for the first time.
It doesn't look as hopeful for the Steelers, particularly with rookie starting quarterback Kenny Pickett in the league's concussion protocol.
On Saturday, the Steelers announced Mitch Trubisky as the team's starting quarterback against the Panthers. He entered last Sunday's game when Pickett departed and threw three interceptions in a 16-14 home loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Pickett is in concussion protocol for the second time in eight weeks.
Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season since becoming Pittsburgh's head coach in 2007, but another loss would pin him with that.
"It's got to be a mindset that we come in and it starts ‘Play 1' and set the tone," Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith said.
The Panthers still remain near the bottom of most offensive statistical categories. However, Carolina's 20 points per game are more than Pittsburgh's 17.5, which ranks 27th in the NFL.
The key for the Panthers seems to be ball security. In their five wins, there hasn't been an interception thrown by a Carolina quarterback and the team has gone without a turnover in four of its five victories.
In the last four wins, running back D'Onta Foreman has averaged 108.8 rushing yards per game, so the Panthers are going to want to crank up that ground attack. The offensive line has been stellar of late.
"It's nice to have the stability (with that unit)," Darnold said. "Those guys deserve as much credit as anybody on the team."
Carolina's offense had an encouraging development Wednesday when receiver DJ Moore, who had an injured ankle, was a full practice participant.
"It was great to see him out there running around and executing," Wilks said.
It has come so full circle for the Panthers that kicker Eddy Pineiro, who might have been in danger of losing his job after a loss at Atlanta, is the most recent NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after booting three field goals and three extra points last week at Seattle.
The Steelers are 6-1 head-to-head against Carolina. This figures to be a particularly relevant game for Carolina owner David Tepper, who was a minority owner of the Steelers before purchasing the Panthers.

Even as the Philadelphia Eagles rose to the top record in the NFL, there were questions about whether the team would falter during a Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans or a visit to the NFC East rival New York Giants the following week.
Philadelphia responded against those playoff hopefuls with victories by a combined 51 points, sparked by quarterback and league MVP contender Jalen Hurts, who passed for a total of 597 yards in the key tests and five touchdowns while rushing for two more scores.
Hurts and the Eagles offense could be primed for another big game as the team puts its 12-1 record up against the Chicago Bears on the road on Sunday. Losers of six straight, the Bears (3-10) have yielded a league-high 21 rushing touchdowns while mustering a league-low 16 sacks.
The Eagles clinched a playoff berth with their 48-22 rout of the Giants last Sunday, but coach Nick Sirianni admitted, "we got way bigger goals than this one."
Against the Giants, Hurts connected for touchdowns with DaVonta Smith (41 yards) and A.J. Brown (33 yards) and may be getting another target back in his arsenal. Tight end Dallas Goedert, who missed the past four games with a shoulder injury, is eligible to return.
Goedert said "things are trending in the right direction" as he prepares to practice Thursday.
Said Sirianni: "We can't wait to have him back. He's one of the best tight ends in the NFL."
The Bears' Justin Fields missed practice Wednesday with an illness, but coach Matt Eberflus said his quarterback was "feeling better every single day," and the prognosis he'd start against the Eagles was "looking positive." Chicago is coming off its bye week.
Fields returned to the lineup against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13 after missing the team's road loss to the New York Jets with a separated non-throwing shoulder. He was 20-of-25 passing for 254 yards and two interceptions, while also rushing for 71 yards on six carries, including a 55-yard TD run in the first quarter.
Fields has rushed for at least 50 yards and a touchdown in six straight games, matching the longest streak for the franchise since Gale Sayers accomplished the feat in 1969.
The loss to Green Bay marked Chicago's second straight defeat by at least two scores after the team fell by a combined seven points in Weeks 9-11.
Chicago managed only a third-quarter field goal against the Packers after halftime and was outscored 18-0 in the fourth.
A bright spot for the Bears defense during the slide has been rookie linebacker Jack Sanborn, a fast-emerging fan favorite for his hustle and ties to the region. A Wisconsin product, Sanborn played high school football at Lake Zurich in north suburban Chicago.
Since joining the starting lineup following the midseason trade of Roquan Smith to Baltimore, Sanborn has 43 tackles in five starts.
"I just want to continue to get better, continue to do my job and do it at a really high level," Sanborn said. "A lot of things can go into that. A lot of things can show that, but that's kinda what I'm focused on. Then, on getting a win. Helping this team win games. That's what I'm here for, and that's what I want to do."
Chicago needs a victory to avoid being swept by NFC East foes this season.

It's long been an article of faith in the NFL that if you have two quarterbacks, you have none.
For at least one week, the Houston Texans successfully challenged that notion and nearly upset the Dallas Cowboys. It appears they're willing to flout convention again on Sunday when they host the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs.
Rotating Davis Mills and newly acquired Jeff Driskel, Houston (1-11-1) led in the final minute before Dallas completed a 98-yard touchdown drive to earn a 27-23 win. Mills completed 16 of 21 passes for 175 yards and a Hail Mary interception with three seconds left, while Driskel ran for 36 yards on seven carries and passed for 38 yards and a touchdown.
"I don't think they knew what was coming," said Houston defensive lineman Maliek Collins. "Any time you have a surprise like that, Jeff Driskel being a lot more mobile, you see it's a difference you have to prepare for.
"When you've got a mobile quarterback versus someone who's standing in the pocket, that all makes a difference. I think it was a surprise for them."
The unorthodox move resulted in one of the Texans' best offensive games this year. The offensive line didn't allow a sack while paving the way for the team's second-highest point total and third-down conversion rate (46.7 percent).
Can Houston find a way to move the ball and keep Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes off the field? That might be tougher with rookie running back Dameon Pierce and his team-high 939 yards on the sidelines with a high ankle sprain. The Texans might also be without veteran wideout Brandin Cooks (calf).
Coach Lovie Smith hasn't publicly committed to another week of the two-quarterback system.
"We'll see exactly what we do, if it gives us the best chance," he said when asked about it.
With Mahomes running the show, the Chiefs (10-3) don't have to worry about splitting snaps. While he tossed three interceptions last week in Denver, he also threw for 352 yards and three scores in a 34-28 win, including a ridiculous sidearm toss under pressure that Jerick McKinnon turned into a 56-yard touchdown.
Mahomes' interceptions helped the Broncos nearly overcome a 27-0 second-quarter deficit, but Kansas City improved to 10-0 against them with Mahomes starting. That made him the fourth quarterback in league history to win 10 straight against an opponent without a loss.
"The rest of the team stepped up," Mahomes said of winning despite tossing three picks. "Defense made a lot of stops in some critical moments when we were putting them in some bad situations."
And the Chiefs' running game pitched in as well. McKinnon and rookie Isiah Pacheco helped chew up the game's last 4:21 with three crucial first-down runs. Pacheco finished with 70 yards on 13 attempts, prompting NFL Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen, who played five seasons with Kansas City, to praise his "fearless" approach.
"That's a great explanation of how I carry myself," Pacheco said.
As if the Chiefs' offense needed reinforcements, they could get wide receivers Kadarius Toney (hamstring) and Mecole Hardman (abdominal injury) back Sunday.

The Dallas Cowboys will aim for their fifth straight win on Sunday when they head to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on the Jaguars.
Dallas (10-3) still trails NFC East rival Philadelphia in the division standings for a top playoff seed, but the Cowboys are in the driver's seat for a top wild card spot.
The Cowboys head into this matchup against the Jaguars (5-8) with some added firepower on offense, and with someone who is very familiar with Jacksonville
Eight-time Pro Bowl tackle Tyron Smith will make his 2022 debut against the Jaguars, after Dallas activated the longtime stalwart of its line Saturday following a lengthy recovery from a knee injury suffered in August.
In addition to activating their two-time All Pro, Dallas signed veteran wideout T.Y. Hilton on Monday to a deal for the remainder of the season.
Hilton spent 10 seasons with Jacksonville divisional rival Indianapolis, where he pulled in 631 catches for 9,691 yards and 53 touchdowns while making four Pro Bowl teams. Hilton hasn't played this season. Last year, he caught 23 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games.
"The timing is right," Dallas coach Mike McCarthy said this week. "He's ready to go. He's an excellent addition, especially at this time of year."
Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore added: "As a veteran, he knows ball. He's really, really smart. To have a guy like that, he'll be able to handle the transition really, really well and provide some depth. We'll see where all the roles transpire."
And Dallas owner Jerry Jones said that the team has not ended its flirtation with another former star receiver, Odell Beckham Jr. He remains a free agent.
Dallas also signed defensive tackle Anthony Rush to its practice squad and claimed corner Trayvon Mullen off waivers from the Cardinals this week.
Despite the Cowboys' record, they are 20th in the league in passing offense. They've been powered by the rushing duo of Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard, who have combined for 1,610 yards and 18 touchdowns.
The Jaguars are coming in with some positivity though, having won their last time out, topping the Titans 36-22 on the road. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 30 of 42 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns. He is ninth in the NFL in passing yards (3,202) this season and 10th in passing touchdowns (20).
"I would say he still has some room to grow, you know, and get better but he's definitely taken steps in the right direction," Jacksonville coach Doug Pederson said of Lawrence.
Lawrence was absent from Jaguars' practice on Wednesday, nursing a sprained toe. He suffered the injury in a Week 13 loss to the Detroit Lions, but still played last week against the Titans, putting forth one of his best passing performances of the season.
"If he can go, I'd rather him go than not. If Trevor can practice some, I definitely want to get him out there," Pederson said.
Also absent from Jacksonville's practice Wednesday were linebacker Travon Walker (ankle), corner Darious Williams (abdomen) and offensive lineman Brandon Scherff (abdomen).
Dallas on Wednesday put right tackle Terence Steele and defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins on injured reserve.
The Cowboys are 4-3 all-time against the Jaguars.
Also attracting attention in this game will be Dallas pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr., who was drafted No. 3 overall by Jacksonville in 2015.
He played at Jacksonville last season as a member of the Atlanta Falcons and recorded a sack on Lawrence. Fowler has five sacks and seven QB hits this season.

The Detroit Lions and New York Jets are fighting for a playoff berth in their respective conferences. The difference between the teams is that they've been heading in opposite directions.
The Lions have been rejuvenated by winning five of their last six. The Jets have lost their last two and four of their last six heading into their matchup at East Rutherford, N.J., on Sunday.
All of New York's recent losses have been decided by eight or fewer points. Last weekend, they lost on the road to AFC East leading-Buffalo 20-12.
The Jets (7-6) held the powerful Bills offense to 232 total yards and their special teams blocked a punt for a safety. But their offense only reached the red zone twice.
Quarterback Mike White took some tough hits and suffered a rib injury but stayed in the game. He completed 27 of 44 passes for 268 yards in his third start this season. He was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice but is expected to play on Sunday.
"We're still working as if he's playing this week," New York coach Robert Saleh said.
One significant development is that former starter Zach Wilson has been elevated to the No. 2 spot ahead of Joe Flacco. Wilson, the second overall draft pick in 2021, handled the demotion professionally.
"This is Mike White's opportunity," Saleh said. "He's attacking the heck out of the opportunity and doing a great job with it. But at the same time, we've still got to make sure we're doing everything we can to develop Zach."
Wide receiver Corey Davis' status is in question, as he remains in the league's concussion protocol.
The Lions have already won in East Rutherford this season, defeating the Giants 31-18 on Nov. 20. Detroit coach Dan Campbell expects a fired-up Jets team that has won three of its last four home games.
"You are crazy if you don't think they want it," Campbell said. "They'll be coming with everything they got against us. So, this is going to be one of those where we have to be locked and loaded and ready to go. This will be a physical game."
Detroit (6-7) has climbed into the NFC playoff picture behind an offense averaging 32.2 points over the last five games. Quarterback Jared Goff has led the charge, throwing 10 touchdown passes compared to one interception over the past six games.
In the Lions' 34-23 victory over NFC North division leader Minnesota over the weekend, Goff passed for 330 yards and three touchdowns.
"Jared Goff, he was the No. 1 pick in the (2016) draft, he's led a team to the Super Bowl and when he's back there and he's comfortable, he's as good as anybody in this game," Saleh said. "He's playing at a very high level."
The Lions have faced some tough defenses, including New England and Dallas, and Campbell puts the Jets' unit in that category.
"This is a heavyweight fight, (because) I love our O-line. And this is a worthy, quality opponent, especially their (defensive) front," Campbell said.
The Jets also have highly-touted rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner, the fourth pick of this year's draft. Gardner has two interceptions, a league-leading 16 passes defended and 54 tackles.
"He fits perfect for that defense," Campbell said. "He'd fit perfect in just about any defense."
Detroit is thrilled with rookie defensive lineman and No. 2 overall pick Aidan Hutchinson, who has a team-high seven sacks and two interceptions.

There likely aren't many NFL fans circling this game on their must-watch list Sunday afternoon.
Two teams with high expectations before the season, the Arizona Cardinals and host Denver Broncos enter this game with backup quarterbacks and a grand total of seven combined victories.
The Cardinals (4-9) lost Kyler Murray to a torn ACL in Monday night's loss to the New England Patriots. His backup, Colt McCoy, is 3-2 in games he's started during the 2021 and 2022 seasons and played virtually all of the game Monday after Murray was injured on the third play of the game.
Coach Kliff Kingsbury has been impressed with McCoy since he signed as a free agent in the 2021 offseason.
"The rapport (he has) with teammates is as good as I've ever seen," Kingsbury said of McCoy. "Whether it's DBs or linemen or linebackers, he can talk football as well with different position groups as anybody I've ever seen. The respect level they have for him is through the roof and he puts in the work. He's a brilliant football mind, and then he is really good when he gets a chance to play."
For the Broncos (3-10), losers of five consecutive games and nine of their last 10, Russell Wilson was in concussion protocol after being knocked out of Sunday's 34-28 loss to Kansas City and did not practice Wednesday. Wide receivers Courtland Sutton and Kendall Hilton also sat out on Wednesday.
The Broncos announced Friday that Wilson cleared protocol but will not play Sunday.
"As an organization we decided to give him another week to get ready, so he's ready to go for the Los Angeles Rams (on Dec. 25)," coach Nathaniel Hackett said. "Russ is one of our ultimate competitors in this game, he's unbelievable."
Brett Rypien will make the third start of his career, his second of the season. Denver lost 16-9 to the New York Jets on Oct. 23 as Rypien completed 24 of 46 passes for 225 yards with one interception and a passer rating of 56.9.
The Broncos have allowed 17 points or fewer in eight games (winning just three times) and while they are ranked seventh in the league in fewest yards allowed (314.3), they are 17th against the run at 117.7 yards per game and 19th in yards per attempt (4.4).
The Cardinals have run the ball better in the last two games despite an offensive line that has only one starter from the beginning of the season on the field (right tackle Kelvin Beachum).
Running back James Conner has rushed for 205 yards on 40 attempts since Week 13 and has scored four rushing touchdowns in his past four games.
Arizona's defense, especially if it is without cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. for the fifth straight game because of a back injury, will be mindful of Denver receiver Jerry Jeudy, who caught eight of nine targets against the Chiefs and while he gained only 73 yards, three of the receptions were for touchdowns -- a career high.
If there is one positive trend for the Cardinals, they are 3-2 in true road games, while winning only one of seven home games as well as losing a neutral-site game in Mexico City. Denver is 2-4 at home and have lost four straight -- although they have all been one-score losses by a total of 22 points, with two in overtime.
The Cardinals placed Murray and wide receiver Rondale Moore on injured reserve Wednesday to give them 15 players, including seven offensive starters, on IR. That also includes two practice-squad players on the injured list. One is right guard Will Hernandez, who was designated for return Wednesday. The only team with more is Denver with 17, a number that grew this week with the addition of running back Mike Boone.
However, the Broncos designated edge rusher Randy Gregory for return Wednesday and he is expected to play Sunday. Gregory has been on IR since suffering a knee injury in Week 4.
Defensive end Zach Allen had hand surgery for an injury suffered against the Patriots and won't play this week. The Cardinals had a walk-through Wednesday and cornerback Murphy was an estimated non-participant.

When the Raiders' schedule was released in May, there's a good chance head coach Josh McDaniels glanced at it and immediately circled his team's Week 15 matchup.
That's because Las Vegas is set to host a team that McDaniels knows well, as the New England Patriots prepare to pay a visit to Sin City, wrapping up a brief two-game road trip out West.
McDaniels had two stints with the Patriots, beginning his career in Foxborough, Mass., as a personnel assistant back in 2001. He then served as a defensive assistant, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator before leaving following the 2008 season to take a head coaching job with the Broncos.
After two seasons in Denver, McDaniels spent a season with the Rams, but eventually made his way back to New England in time for the 2012 campaign. Serving as offensive coordinator (and quarterbacks coach from 2012-19 and 2021), he stayed on staff up until this past January, when he took the job with the Raiders.
In all, McDaniels has six rings to show for his time with the Patriots.
But come Sunday, it's all business.
"To me, I think it's the next game on the schedule," McDaniels said. "Look, it is what it is. I used to work there, and we have a couple players that used to be there and a couple coaches, but I mean, this is an important game for the Raiders, whether we were playing the Patriots or any other team.
"I don't really put any stock into the different things."
Las Vegas (5-8) seemed to be finding its stride but saw a three-game winning streak halted last Thursday with a 17-16 loss to the Rams.
The Patriots (7-6) also experienced the end of a streak -- a two-game losing skid -- thanks to a 27-13 win over Arizona on Monday.
With the win, New England vaulted over the Jets for the final playoff spot in the AFC. Now just one game behind Miami, the Patriots can climb the postseason ladder with a win on Sunday.
New England paid a price for the victory, however. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson left the game with an ankle injury and receiver DeVante Parker was forced to leave because of a concussion.
Neither Stevenson nor Parker practiced Wednesday.
Despite potentially being without some of their top offensive pieces, coach Bill Belichick said the Patriots are ready for Las Vegas, thanks in part to their preseason meeting back on Aug. 26
"There's certainly game plan things that'll come up along the way, but, yeah, we're pretty familiar with them," Belichick said. "We knew that at that time that this was gonna be a short week and to try to take a little bit extra preparation time.
"I'm sure (the Raiders) did the same thing."
In addition to Stevenson and Parker, cornerback Jack Jones (knee) and tackle Isaiah Wynn (foot) also missed Wednesday's practice. Running back Damien Harris (thigh), receiver Jakobi Meyers (concussion) and defensive tackle Christian Barmore (knee) were limited.
Raiders linebacker Divine Deablo (forearm) missed practice on Wednesday. Receiver Hunter Renfrow (oblique) and tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) were at practice, but McDaniels is evaluating both to determine if they should be activated from injured reserve.

A pair of playoff hopefuls still trying to hit their stride, while intent on solving something of dueling identity crises, will meet Sunday when the Los Angeles Chargers play host to the Tennessee Titans at Inglewood, Calif.
The Titans (7-6) arrive on the West Coast with additional baggage in the form of a three-game losing streak, although they have remained in first place in the tepid AFC South.
The Chargers (7-6) are coming off an impressive 23-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins and sit just outside of AFC wild-card eligibility. Yet, as much as the win offered a glimpse into the team's possibilities, it was a reminder of the topsy-turvy ride this season.
What becomes clear is that the Chargers might be one of the AFC's better teams had it not been for key injuries. Finding that potential still can happen.
Wide receivers Mike Williams (ankle) and Keenan Allen (hamstring) are back now after missing a combined 11 games between them.
Quarterback Justin Herbert targeted Allen 14 times in each of the past two games and the veteran had 12 receptions for 92 yards against the Dolphins. Williams had six catches on six targets for 116 yards and a touchdown in the pivotal win against Miami.
"He's just getting better," Allen said of the 24-year-old Herbert, now in his third season. "He's just starting. He's about to blow this league away."
Said Williams of Herbert: "He's a leader on this team. We just got to continue to follow him."
More injury progress is apparently coming. Chargers star defensive end Joey Bosa (groin) has been out since Week 3, and while his absence is expected to extend through Sunday, he is due back before the regular season ends.
Among active players, only safety Derwin James Jr. (quadriceps) was listed as out of practice Wednesday. Tight end Donald Parham Jr. (hamstring) is expected to be available Sunday. Cornerback Bryce Callahan (groin) and defensive end Sebastian Joseph-Day (knee) did not play against the Dolphins but were listed as limited Wednesday.
After general manager Jon Robinson was fired last week, not much changed with the Titans on Sunday when they fell 36-22 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. While defeats could be expected against the surging Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12 and the NFL's top team in the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13, a two-score loss at home to the Jaguars has alarm bells ringing in Tennessee.
The Titans matched a season high with four turnovers against the Jaguars, including a pair of fumbles by Derrick Henry. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was 25 of 38 for 254 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. On defense, Tennessee hasn't forced a takeaway in four games and has given up 71 points combined in its last two.
"It's been a long time since we've created a turnover, or hit anybody hard enough to knock the ball loose, or intercept it, or tip it up in the air and catch it," Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said.
Yet a two-game lead in the division has spirits high.
"We're hungry to get back on the right track," said Tannehill, who was listed as limited in practice Wednesday with an ankle injury but is expected to play. "We're hungry to do things the way we want to do them. We did a lot of good things (against the Jaguars) but shot ourselves in the foot too many times."
The Titans had a number of players sidelined for Wednesday's practice: wide receivers C.J. Board (rib), Treylon Burks (concussion) and Robert Woods (illness); cornerback Kristian Fulton (groin) and running back Dontrell Hilliard (neck). Henry was out for rest.

Joe Burrow aims to propel the Cincinnati Bengals to their sixth straight victory on Sunday when they visit Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The game itself between the Bengals (9-4) and Buccaneers (6-7) -- and not the first overall meeting between the high-profile quarterbacks -- was the focus for Burrow on Wednesday.
"It is what it is," Burrow said. "I don't really pay attention to it. He's Tom, and I'm Joe."
Burrow also said Sunday's contest is merely another game on the schedule.
"Our 14th game of the season," Burrow said about why it's just another game. "Obviously, the greatest quarterback ever is on the other side, but we got a job to do, too, and our job is to go and win. Get to 10-4 and move on."
As it stands, Cincinnati remains tied with Baltimore atop the AFC North following last Sunday's 23-10 victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Ja'Marr Chase reeled in 10 catches for 119 yards and a touchdown last week. Trenton Irwin also had a touchdown reception for the Bengals, who saw fellow wideouts Tee Higgins (hamstring) and Tyler Boyd (finger) return from early exits versus the Browns to put forth limited participation in practice on Wednesday.
Cincinnati boasts the NFL's fifth-ranked offense (371.7 total yards per game) and seventh-ranked scoring offense (25.8 points per game). Tampa Bay, in turn, has averaged just 17.2 points per game, which ranks fifth worst in the league.
The Bengals also have seen progress from their ground game, notably Joe Mixon and Samaje Perine. Cincinnati averaged a robust 5.2 yards per rush and totaled 136 yards against Cleveland, marking its third straight game of rushing for more than 100 yards.
Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday that tight end Hayden Hurst (calf) is unlikely to play versus Tampa Bay. Hurst joined defensive end Trey Hendrickson (wrist), cornerbacks Mike Hilton (knee) and Jalen Davis (thumb), tackle La'el Collins (rest) and defensive tackle D.J. Reader (rest) in failing to participate in practice on Wednesday.
Unlike Cincinnati, Tampa Bay is enjoying sole possession of first place in its division -- however, its one-game lead over Carolina and Atlanta is tenuous at best. The Buccaneers have lost two of their last three games, including a lopsided 35-7 setback against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday.
"Losing in general is tough, man," defensive lineman Akiem Hicks said. "Whether we're playing checkers, Monopoly or a game on Sunday, it's not a good feeling and you've got to do everything you can to not feel it again."
Brady, 45, likely didn't feel too well after last Sunday's game. He was intercepted on consecutive possessions in the third quarter and found the end zone just once after tossing two touchdown passes in each of his previous three games.
Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles, however, dismissed the notion that Brady is showing signs of decline.
"No, he's exactly the same," Bowles said on Wednesday. "It takes 11 guys on offense, 11 guys on defense to win a ballgame. When things go wrong, it's not because of Tom's age, it's because we didn't execute."
Brady leads the NFL in completions (381) and ranks fourth in pass yards (3,585) this season. He also has seven games of 30-plus completions.
Chris Godwin has been a frequent target. He has recorded at least five catches in 10 straight games and at least six receptions in 11 consecutive home contests.
Bowles said Wednesday defensive tackle Vita Vea (calf) and offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs (ankle) likely will sit out Sunday's game. Vea and Wirfs joined linebacker Carl Nassib (pectoral), wide receiver Julio Jones (knee) and cornerback Jamel Dean (toe) in failing to participate in practice on Wednesday.

The Washington Commanders will face the New York Giants for the second time in as many weeks when the teams meet in a contest filled with playoff implications on Sunday night in Landover, Md.
The Commanders and the host Giants played to a 20-20 tie on Dec. 4 before the Giants got clobbered by the visiting Eagles 48-22 last Sunday. Washington used its bye week to prepare for the teams' rematch.
While the Eagles (12-1) are running away with the NFC East and the Dallas Cowboys (10-3) have played their way into prime position for the top wild card, it's essentially become a four-team race for the remaining two wild cards in the NFC.
That's why Sunday's game between the Commanders (7-5-1) and Giants (7-5-1) is crucial for both teams. The winner gains a huge advantage considering it will hold a one-game lead and the tiebreaker over the loser with three games remaining.
"This is an opportunity, and we've got to focus in on it," Washington coach Ron Rivera said. "This is the most important game we will play, as of now, and a big reason is because it's the one we're about to play. So we will try to keep our focus solely on that."
Currently, the Commanders are the sixth seed, with the Giants in the final spot. New York is ahead of the Seattle Seahawks (7-6) and surging Detroit (6-7).
The Lions have won five of their last six games, including a 31-18 victory over the Giants, giving them the tiebreaker over New York should both finish with identical records.
"Around this time in December, all games get critical," Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence said. "It's another division game that's a must-win because it's the next one, and you want to go 1-0. This game is a playoff game, and the next game will be one. It's just all taking it step by step."
In the teams' last meeting, the Giants took a 20-13 lead on Daniel Jones' 6-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Hodgins with 11:34 left in the third quarter. The Commanders tied it when Taylor Heinicke threw a 28-yard scoring strike to Jahan Dotson with 1:45 left in the game.
In overtime, New York's Graham Gano missed a 58-yard field goal as time expired, ending the game with the score deadlocked.
Jones went 25-for-31 passing for 200 yards and a touchdown, in addition to a team-high 71 yards rushing on 12 carries. He'll again be tested by a Washington defense that is fourth in the league in yards allowed (310.5).
Heinecke, who went 27-of-41 passing with two touchdowns in the tie, has had two weeks to find ways to exploit a Giants' defense that ranks 26th in yards (365.8) and 29th against the run (149.7).
Brian Robinson Jr. ran for 96 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, while Terry McLaurin had eight catches for 105 yards and a score in the teams' last meeting.
For the Giants, guards Shane Lemieux (toe) and Joshua Ezeudu (neck), cornerback Adoree' Jackson (knee), receiver Richie James (concussion) and linebacker Jihad Ward (concussion) did not practice Wednesday due to injury.
Meanwhile, tight end Daniel Bellinger (rib), linebacker Elerson Smith (Achilles) and defensive end Leonard Smith (neck) were limited, but no players on the injury report have been ruled out for Sunday.
The Commanders had everyone practice in some form on Wednesday, though 10 players were limited. The availability of running backs Antonio Gibson (foot) and Robinson (quad), receiver Cam Sims (back), guards Trai Turner (knee) and Andrew Norwell (shoulder), defensive ends Montez Sweat (concussion), James Smith-Williams (concussion) and Chase Young (knee), receiver Dax Milne (foot) and cornerback Benjamin St-Juste (ankle) for Sunday's game will be determined later in the week.
