On a day when former WR Jimmy Smith is being inducted into the team's ring of honor, the Jaguars could manage just a 9-9 halftime tie with the Vikings. The Jaguars' lack of downfield success has been an issue all season but the team's best offensive play so far was a pass interference penalty.
The numbers tell the story of this first half. Cincinnati had 216 yards to the Browns' 72, had the ball for 19:07 compared to the Browns' 10:49 and had 14 first downs to the Browns' three. The Bengals 20-0 lead was every bit as one-sided as it sounds.
At the end of a half where they connected on three plays of 40 yards or more, the Vikings are tied 9-9 with the Jaguars for several reasons. They're 0-for-5 on third down, having again been unable to pick up a yard when they needed one. They allowed the Jaguars to go 92 yards for a game-tying field goal at the end of the first half, on a series that included a 31-yard Xavier Rhodes pass interference penalty and a 39-yard Marqise Lee reception on which Danielle Hunter and Anthony Harris missed tackles. The Vikings' defense, which has yet to force a turnover, will take the field first in the second half, as the Jaguars try to take the lead.
It wasn't the prettiest performance for the Lions, but Detroit found some offensive flow in the two-minute drill to take a 10-3 lead on Chicago at halftime. The Lions have held the Bears to 107 total yards. Matthew Stafford is 16-of-23 for 176 yards and a touchdown.
The Bengals are playing great defense against the hapless Browns, with 72 net yards allowed and an interception as Cincinnati leads 20-0 at the half. What's not so great -- three sacks against Andy Dalton and missed PAT and field goal by Mike Nugent. Those are the same problems that have plagued them all year. They have tried to find solutions for the offensive line but they've stuck by Nugent as he struggled this season with six missed PATs.
