Preview: Dodgers at Marlins

GAME: Los Angeles Dodgers (42-34) at Miami Marlins (31-45)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
LINE: -195, 179 TOTAL: 7

The Miami Marlins did not have much to celebrate this season but could always point to Giancarlo Stanton as a reason to come to the ballpark. The Marlins will operate without their star slugger once again when they host the Los Angeles Dodgers in the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday.

Stanton went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Friday’s series opener and was clearly bothered by his left hand, heading for X-rays after the game which revealed a broken bone that will sideline the young star 4-to-6 weeks. "We're hoping that it will be the quickest course possible, but certainly (it's) not great news when you lose a guy that means what he's meant to this ball club and to baseball," Marlins manager Dan Jennings told reporters. Miami did not need Stanton to snap a five-game slide on Saturday while squeezing out a 3-2 victory. The Marlins face a tough pitcher in Sunday’s finale when the Dodgers send Zack Greinke to the mound to oppose Jose Urena.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, SportsNet Los Angeles, FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Dodgers RH Zack Greinke (5-2, 1.70 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Jose Urena (1-3, 4.34)

Greinke is winless in his last nine starts despite allowing one or no runs in seven of those outings. The 31-year-old did not allow a run in either of his last two turns while scattering seven hits and a pair of walks over 13 total innings. Greinke is 3-0 with a 3.51 ERA in seven career games – six starts – against Miami.

Urena was reached for three runs on six hits and three walks over five innings against St. Louis on Tuesday but did not factor in the decision. The Dominican rookie is 1-2 in his last five starts despite allowing three or fewer earned runs in each. Urena is making his first start against Los Angeles and is 1-1 with a 3.57 ERA in three home starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Dodgers RF Yasiel Puig (hand) did not start for the fourth straight game on Saturday but is expected to get the start on Sunday.

2. Miami LF Christian Yelich went 4-for-4 on Saturday, matching his hit total from the previous seven games.

3. Los Angeles LHP Paco Rodriguez (left elbow) will undergo arthroscopic surgery and is expected to miss at least two months.

GAME: Cincinnati Reds (34-38) at New York Mets (38-37)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: 129, -140 N/A TOTAL: N/A

Highly touted prospect Steven Matz will make his much-anticipated major-league debut when the New York Mets wrap up their three-game series against the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. Matz will be forced to begin the day as a spectator, though, as the teams first will resume Saturday's game that was suspended after six innings with the scored tied 1-1.

"I'm happy it's at home. My parents are very excited and my family is very excited," said Matz, who grew up on Long Island and went to college at nearby Stony Brook University. The arrival of Matz signifies a switch to a six-man starting rotation for New York, which is 3 1/2 games behind first-place Washington in the National League East. Offense continues to be an issue for the Mets, who scored only 13 times in the last nine games and pushed across their only run Saturday on Curtis Granderson's homer - his fifth in seven contests. Brandon Phillips singled in the lone run for the Reds on Saturday, giving him a hit in all 31 games he's played in New York.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET (30 minutes after completion of suspended game), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Josh Smith (0-0, 12.00 ERA) vs. Mets LH Steven Matz (NR)

Smith likely didn't expect to have an edge in experience in Sunday's matchup as he looks to rebound from a shaky major-league debut at Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Despite being staked to a 3-0 first-inning lead, Smith failed to record an out in the fourth frame and was chased after surrendering a grand slam. The 27-year-old Smith struggled with his control, issuing six walks and throwing 79 pitches in his abbreviated stint.

Matz, elevated to the team's top pitching prospect after Noah Syndergaard was called up last month, said his promotion "really is a dream come true." A second-round pick in the 2009 draft, the 24-year-old Matz compiled a 7-4 record with a Pacific Coast League-leading 2.19 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings. "I think he knows he has good stuff," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "I think he has great confidence right now, and he should."

WALK-OFFS

1. Granderson, who swatted his 250th career homer Saturday, has hit safely in seven straight games.

2. Reds C Tucker Barnhart was 6-for-13 over his last three games before collecting a double and a walk in two plate appearances on Saturday.

3. Mets 2B Daniel Murphy (quadriceps) is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday versus the Chicago Cubs.

Preview: Braves at Pirates

5-Day Forecast GAME: Atlanta Braves (35-40) at Pittsburgh Pirates (42-32)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 1:35 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: 118, -128 TOTAL: 7.5

Starling Marte will not be happy to see the Atlanta Braves leave town, given how the Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder has pounded Braves’ pitching. The Pirates host the Braves in Sunday’s finale of a three-game series, and Marte comes in batting .404 in his past 12 contests against Atlanta after collecting three hits in Saturday’s 8-4 triumph.

The Pirates aim for a three-game sweep and look to improve to 11-0 at home against National League East competition. Center fielder Andrew McCutchen left Saturday’s game after being hit on the left elbow with a pitch in the first inning, and while X-rays were negative, the perennial All-Star may not be available for the series finale. The Braves hope to salvage the final game of a disastrous six-game road trip in which Atlanta has lost the first five games and dropped 6 ½ games behind first-place Washington. Atlanta second baseman Jace Peterson snapped an 0-for-17 skid with two hits Saturday, including a three-run double.

TV: 1:35 p.m. ET, FSN South (Atlanta), ROOT (Pittsburgh)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves LH Alex Wood (4-5, 3.44 ERA) vs. Pirates LH Jeff Locke (4-3, 4.73)

Wood gave up three runs on seven hits over five innings in a loss to the Pirates on June 7 -- the first of three consecutive decisions he has dropped. The 24-year-old gave up three runs on a season-high 10 hits in seven innings Tuesday at Washington. Wood is 4-2 with a 2.73 ERA in nine road starts this season, compared to a 0-3 mark with a 5.00 ERA in five home outings.

Locke has pitched far better in June, posting a 3.22 ERA this month after a 5.34 mark through April and May. He gave up four runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings June 6 at Atlanta and earned a victory in his only decision of the month June 17 against the Chicago White Sox with six innings of two-run, three-hit pitching. Locke gave up four runs (two earned) in four innings Tuesday against Cincinnati.

WALK-OFFS

1. Atlanta RHP Williams Perez, who was hit on the left foot with a line drive Friday, was placed on the disabled list with a contusion while Atlanta promoted RHP Jake Brigham from Triple-A Gwinnett.

2. Pittsburgh SS Jordy Mercer collected two more hits Saturday and he is 8-for-19 in his past three games.

3. The Braves have averaged 2.1 runs in their past nine games, after plating 5.1 runs per contest in their previous 16 games.

GAME: Cleveland Indians (33-39) at Baltimore Orioles (39-34)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 1:35 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland
LINE: 114, -123 TOTAL: 8.5

It took inclement weather to cool off the Baltimore Orioles, who will play a day-night doubleheader against the visiting Cleveland Indians on Sunday after Saturday's game was postponed due to rain. The Orioles opened the month with three straight losses but have been on a roll since, winning 16 of their last 21 contests to move a season-high five games over .500.

Baltimore's J.J. Hardy homered for the first time since May 15 in the series opener and is 7-for-21 with six RBIs over his last five games. Jimmy Paredes is 11-for-21 during his five-game hitting streak and has multiple hits in each of his last four contests while Chris Davis ran his hitting streak to six contests with a game-winning RBI single on Friday. Cleveland's Jason Kipnis is riding a 20-game hitting streak - the longest in the majors this season - and has hit safely in 39 of his last 43. The Indians are expected to call up Japanese right-hander Toru Murata to make his major-league debut in the nightcap.

TV: 1:35 p.m. ET, SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland), MASN2, WJZ (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Trevor Bauer (6-4, 3.86 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Ubaldo Jimenez (6-3, 3.40)

Bauer will attempt to bounce back from a dismal performance in which he was rocked for seven runs and nine hits over three-plus innings of an 8-5 loss to Detroit on Monday. The former No. 3 overall draft pick continues to struggle with his control, walking 19 batters in 27 1/3 innings over his last five turns. Bauer has been much better away from home, posting a 4-1 record and 1.10 ERA in six road starts this season.

Jimenez won his third straight start last time out, striking out eight while permitting three runs and six hits over five innings at Boston. Jimenez, who spent 2 1/2 seasons with the Indians before joining the Orioles, settled for a no-decision at Cleveland on June 6 after allowing one run in five frames. He has struggled overall against his former teammates, logging an 0-2 record and unsightly 8.10 ERA in three career starts.

WALK-OFFS

1. Orioles LHP Zach Britton has recorded nine saves during the team's 16-5 tear.

2. Kipnis' hitting streak is the longest for Cleveland since Michael Brantley's 22-game run in 2012.

3. Orioles 3B Manny Machado has hit safely in eight straight games.

GAME: New York Yankees (41-34) at Houston Astros (43-34)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 2:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: -101, -107 TOTAL: 7.5

The Houston Astros are trying to salvage a split of their four-game series, but they'll have to find a way to contain a pair of red-hot hitters for the visiting New York Yankees on Sunday. The Yankees rebounded from a 4-0 loss in the series opener to win the next two games, prevailing 9-6 on Saturday after blowing an early six-run lead.

Chris Young's return to his hometown has been a smashing success - he is 6-for-11 with two homers and five RBIs in the series to boost his career numbers at Minute Maid Park to .407 with 10 blasts and 35 RBIs in 26 games. Leadoff hitter Brett Gardner also is on a tear, batting .500 with four homers, 10 RBIs and 15 runs scored in his last nine games. Rookie Carlos Correa, the 2012 first overall pick who made his major-league debut on June 8, has recorded four three-hit performances in his last 13 contests for the Astros. A pair of eight-game winners square off Sunday as Houston's Collin McHugh matches up with New York's Michael Pineda.

TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, MLBN, YES (New York), ROOT (Houston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Michael Pineda (8-4, 4.25 ERA) vs. Astros RH Collin McHugh (8-3, 4.80)

Pineda lasted only 3 1/3 innings in his last start versus Philadelphia as he was shelled for eight runs and 11 hits - both season highs - while failing to strike out a batter for the first time this year. It marked the fourth time in his last seven turns - all losses - that he has permitted at least five runs. The 26-year-old Dominican has surrendered nine homers on the season, six of which have come in his last six outings.

McHugh is coming off his longest outing of the season, winning his second straight start by yielding two runs over eight innings at the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. However, it marked the fourth time in his last seven turns that he has been reached for nine hits, a span during which he's also given up eight home runs. The 28-year-old McHugh is 4-2 in six starts at home despite a bloated 6.82 ERA and .301 batting average against.

WALK-OFFS

1. Young is riding a career-best 10-game hitting streak.

2. Astros 1B Chris Carter homered and doubled Saturday to halt a 1-for-23 slide.

3. Yankees C Brian McCann belted a grand slam Saturday, his third homer in five games.

GAME: Minnesota Twins (40-34) at Milwaukee Brewers (28-48)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 2:10 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
LINE: 135, -146 TOTAL: 8

Torii Hunter looked like age was slowing him down with a tough month before breaking out against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. The 39-year-old right fielder will try to lead the Minnesota Twins to a series win when they visit the Brewers in the rubber match on Sunday.

Hunter was batting .211 with one home run and a .276 slugging percentage this month before Saturday, when he went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and a double in a 5-2 victory. The win marked the third in five games for the Twins, who are looking for their second straight series win to turnaround a tough month overall. The Brewers put up 10 runs in the first two innings to win the series opener on Friday but went back to their low-scoring ways on Saturday and have managed two or fewer runs in eight of the last 14 contests. Milwaukee will try to generate some runs Sunday against Twins left-hander Tommy Milone, who will oppose Mike Fiers.

TV: 2:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, FSN North (Minnesota), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins LH Tommy Milone (4-1, 3.59 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Mike Fiers (3-7, 4.39)

Milone is making a case to stay in the rotation when Ricky Nolasco returns and is looking for his third straight win. The USC product has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his last four turns and held the Chicago White Sox to two runs in six innings on Monday. Milone last faced a National League opponent on June 17 against St. Louis and scattered one run and five hits over seven innings to earn the win.

Fiers was solid in six innings against the New York Mets on Tuesday, allowing two runs and four hits in six innings without factoring in the decision. That marked the seventh time in the last nine starts that the Florida native surrendered two or fewer earned runs. Fiers only let in a pair at Minnesota on June 7 but walked three and scattered seven hits in 4 1/3 innings to suffer a loss.

WALK-OFFS

1. Brewers 1B Adam Lind is 11-for-24 during a seven-game hitting streak.

2. Minnesota 2B Brian Dozier has seven hits in 11 at-bats over the last three games.

3. Milwaukee 3B Aramis Ramirez is 2-for-17 in his last five contests.

DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 3:35 PM EST
WHERE: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, California
LINE: -110, 102 TOTAL: 7

Robinson Cano's availability for the series finale against the host Los Angeles Angels will be determined Sunday after he suffered a freak injury during Seattle's 4-2 loss on Saturday. Cano was drilled in the forehead by an errant infield throw during the Angels' warmups prior to the seventh inning and was removed from the contest.

The throw from Los Angeles shortstop Taylor Featherston left a bruise near Cano's left temple, and the Mariners standout went through Major League Baseball's concussion protocol and was cleared. Seattle would like to see him in the lineup while trying to win the series with ace Felix Hernandez on the mound. Hernandez has won five consecutive starts against the Angels — compiling a 1.04 ERA — including two victories this season. Los Angeles first baseman Albert Pujols has slugged 12 homers in June but is 1-for-10 over the last three contests.

TV: 3:35 p.m. ET, ROOT (Seattle), FSN West (Los Angeles)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Felix Hernandez (10-4, 3.24 ERA) vs. Angels LH Hector Santiago (4-4, 2.68)

Hernandez is experiencing a rocky June and is 2-3 with a 6.75 ERA during the month. He lost to Kansas City in his last turn when he allowed four runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings. Hernandez has limited the Angels to two runs and eight hits in 14 innings this season to improve his career mark to 13-13 with a 3.41 ERA in 42 career starts.

Santiago is winless over his last four starts and hasn't posted a victory since May 29. He received a no-decision against Houston in his last turn when he gave up one run and two hits over six innings and has allowed five homers over his last three turns while giving up just six runs. Santiago is 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA in 10 career appearances (two starts) against Seattle.

WALK-OFFS

1. Mariners OF Mark Trumbo is 1-for-17 over the last five games and is batting just .159 since being acquired from Arizona on June 3.

2. Seattle C Mike Zunino homered Saturday — his first since May 28.

3. Los Angeles SS Erick Aybar (hamstring) was limited to pinch-hitting duties Saturday but could be in the lineup for the finale.

GAME: Kansas City Royals (43-28) at Oakland Athletics (34-43)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: O.co Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: 150, -163 TOTAL: 7.5

The defending American League champion Kansas City Royals are a season-best 15 games above .500 and look to build on that figure when they close a three-game series against the host Oakland Athletics on Sunday. Kansas City limited Oakland to four runs while winning the first two games and possesses a 4 1/2-game lead in the AL Central.

The Royals have won nine of their last 12 games and even manager Ned Yost found enjoyment over Saturday's win. "If I would say I'm not excited about being 15 over, I'd be lying," Yost told reporters. "It's great but we want to continue to keep going, keep going, keep going." The Athletics had won a season-best five straight games before dropping the first two of this series and they stand nine games out in the AL West. Oakland catcher Stephen Vogt served as the designated hitter on Saturday after being plunked on the right wrist on Friday and is 5-for-8 with two homers against scheduled Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, FSN Kansas City, CSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Royals RH Jeremy Guthrie (5-5, 5.90 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Jesse Chavez (4-6, 2.90)

Guthrie is 1-3 over his last six starts, which includes a forgettable May 25 outing in which he allowed 11 runs in one-plus innings against the New York Yankees. He is 3-3 on the road with a sky-high 8.15 ERA in seven outings. Guthrie is 4-5 with a 4.68 ERA in 13 career appearances (12 starts) against Oakland, including a no-decision on April 17 when he gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings.

Chavez has won back-to-back starts even though his last performance was shaky. He picked up the win against Texas despite allowing five runs and eight hits in five innings. Chavez has pitched 10 2/3 scoreless innings in five career appearances (all in relief) against Kansas City.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Athletics are hitless in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position in the series.

2. Kansas City DH Kendrys Morales went 2-for-3 with two RBI on Saturday to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

3. Oakland CF Billy Burns (hip flexor) is expected to be in the lineup after missing the last two games.

DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: 201, -220 TOTAL: 7

Madison Bumgarner recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts in his last outing but carries a winless stretch of three starts into Sunday's contest against the visiting Colorado Rockies. The San Francisco Giants ace received a no-decision in his dominant outing against San Diego last Tuesday and is looking for his first victory since June 6.

Bumgarner aims to pitch the Giants to a series victory after the teams traded wins on Friday and Saturday. He will be matched up against Colorado's Kyle Kendrick, who has served up a major-league worst 21 homers. San Francisco catcher Buster Posey, who is 6-for-12 against Kendrick, is a torrid 7-for-16 with nine RBIs over the past four games. Colorado right fielder Carlos Gonzalez is the rare left-handed hitter who feasts on Bumgarner and is batting .350 with five homers and three doubles in 40 career at-bats against him.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, ROOT (Colorado), CSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rockies RH Kyle Kendrick (3-9, 5.96 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (7-4, 3.04)

Kendrick had dropped three straight decisions before beating the Arizona Diamondbacks in his last outing. He gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings -- marking the fifth time in his last seven starts that he has allowed four or more runs. Kendrick is 2-3 with a 4.85 ERA in nine career appearances (six starts) against San Francisco, including a loss on May 22 in which he gave up four runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Bumgarner has allowed just five runs during his winless stretch and limited the Padres to two runs and four hits in 7 1/3 innings. He has 41 strikeouts against five walks over his last four starts and has fanned 102 on the season. Bumgarner is 9-6 with a 3.13 ERA in 20 career starts against Colorado and is facing the Rockies for the first time this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rockies 3B Nolan Arenado is batting .370 with seven homers and 18 RBIs during a 14-game hitting streak.

2. San Francisco 3B Matt Duffy is 6-for-14 with six runs scored over the past three games.

3. Colorado SS Troy Tulowitzki, who is 10-for-26 with two homers against Bumgarner, extended his hitting streak to 11 games on Saturday.

GAME: Washington Nationals (41-33) at Philadelphia Phillies (26-49)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
LINE: -175, 161 N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Washington Nationals have a chance to extend their winning streak from seven to nine games Sunday as they visit the Philadelphia Phillies for a traditional doubleheader. The National League East rivals played 1 1/2 innings on Saturday before the middle contest of their three-game series was delayed by rain for 1 hour, 27 minutes before being postponed.

Washington has allowed a total of seven runs during its seven-game run, yielding more than one only twice. Max Scherzer continued his dominating run on the mound and Michael Taylor ripped a double among his two hits and scored twice as the Nationals breezed to a 5-2 triumph in Friday's series opener. Taylor is 11-for-27 with six runs scored during his seven-game hitting streak for division-leading Washington. Philadelphia obviously is singing a different tune, having dropped 16 of its last 21 games to sit comfortably in the cellar.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, MASN (Washington), CSN Philadelphia

PITCHING MATCHUP: TBA vs. Phillies RH Severino Gonzalez (2-2, 8.69 ERA)

Washington did not announce a starter for the nightcap, but the candidates include Tanner Roark and Triple-A right-hander Taylor Jordan, who was scratched from his Saturday start for Syracuse and could be activated as the 26th player. The 28-year-old Roark, who hasn't pitched since returning from paternity leave, is 3-2 with a 3.25 ERA in 19 games this season. Roark improved to 3-0 as a starter on June 16, when he allowed one run and six hits in seven innings at Tampa Bay, and is 2-4 with a 4.97 ERA in six career contests (four starts) against the Phillies.

Gonzalez will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make his sixth major-league start. The 22-year-old Panamanian lasted only 2 2/3 innings in his last outing on June 6, surrendering six runs and seven hits en route to a loss to San Francisco in his Citizens Bank Park debut. Gonzalez, who has yet to work more than five frames for Philadelphia, has posted a 1-4 record and 4.06 ERA in eight turns for Lehigh Valley.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nationals OF Bryce Harper has missed the last two games with tightness in his right hamstring.

2. Philadelphia rookie 3B Maikel Franco is hitless in his last eight at-bats after going 13-for-21 with three home runs and 11 RBIs during a five-game stretch.

3. Washington 3B Yunel Escobar is day-to-day with swelling in his hand after being hit by a pitch in the series opener.

DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 4:10 PM EST
WHERE: Petco Park, San Diego, California
LINE: 105, -114 TOTAL: 7.5

The San Diego Padres attempt to complete a sweep when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks for the finale of their three-game set Sunday. San Diego halted a brief two-game skid with a 4-2 triumph in the series opener before rolling to a 7-2 victory Saturday.

Justin Upton belted a two-run homer while Yangervis Solarte collected three hits and an RBI as the Padres improved to 2-0 on their five-game homestand. David Peralta and Yasmany Tomas each recorded two hits and an RBI for Arizona, which suffered its third consecutive defeat. Paul Goldschmidt kept his hitting streak alive, doubling in the third inning to extend his run to eight games. The Diamondbacks fell to 1-4 on their six-game road trip after posting a 5-4 record on their previous trek.

TV: 4:10 p.m. ET, FSN Arizona, FSN San Diego

PITCHING MATCHUP: Diamondbacks RH Chase Anderson (3-2, 3.54 ERA) vs. Padres RH Odrisamer Despaigne (3-5, 4.83)

Anderson's nine-start unbeaten streak ended in a big way Tuesday as he was battered for eight runs on eight hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings at Colorado. It was the shortest outing of the season for the 27-year-old, who gave up a total of three runs over 18 2/3 frames in his previous three turns. Anderson is 2-1 with a 3.21 ERA in five career starts against San Diego, including a pair of no-decisions this season.

Despaigne saw his winless streak reach four starts Tuesday as he was forced to settle for a no-decision at San Francisco after allowing two runs in five innings. The 28-year-old Cuban was tagged for six runs and eight hits over six frames in his previous outing at Oakland. Despaigne is 1-1 this season — and 2-3 lifetime — against the Diamondbacks, yielding one run in seven innings en route to victory at home April 14 before getting drilled for eight runs and 10 hits over five frames at Arizona on May 7.

WALK-OFFS

1. Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg exited Saturday's game in the fourth inning with a sprained left knee.

2. Diamondbacks LHP Patrick Corbin, who hasn't pitched since 2013 due to Tommy John surgery, is expected to make one more rehab start before returning to the majors.

3. San Diego 1B Yonder Alonso is riding a six-game hitting streak during which he's recorded three multi-hit performances.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Toru Murata (NR) vs. Orioles RH Chris Tillman (5-7, 6.22 ERA)

Murata, in his fifth season in the minors with the Cleveland organization, finally gets the call to the majors just over a month after turning 30 years old. He spent parts of the previous three seasons at Triple-A Columbus, never pitching to an ERA below 5.38, but has been markedly better this year. In 14 appearances (13 starts), the native of Osaka is 5-2 with a 2.79 ERA and has permitted only six earned runs in his last four turns.

Tillman appeared on the verge of reversing his early-season doldrums by winning three starts in a row, but the momentum came to a crashing halt in his last outing. Despite being staked to a 7-0 lead, Tillman lasted only 1 1/3 innings and was charged with six runs on six hits - including a pair of home runs. Tillman had one of his best starts versus Cleveland on June 5, earning the victory with 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball.

WALK-OFFS

Preview: Cubs at Cardinals

GAME: Chicago Cubs (39-34) at St. Louis Cardinals (50-24)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, June 28 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, Missouri
LINE: 119, -129 TOTAL: 7

The St. Louis Cardinals have dominated the National League Central rival Chicago Cubs in recent years, and they'll try to wrap up a three-game sweep of their division foe Sunday. The host Cardinals rallied to win in extra innings on Friday and routed the Cubs 8-1 on Saturday to move to the brink of their first series sweep of Chicago since the final weekend of the 2013 campaign.

The Cardinals have won five straight and 12 of 15 to pad baseball's best record, while the reeling Cubs have dropped four straight while scoring a total of six runs in their past five contests. St. Louis right-hander Carlos Martinez makes his first home start since May 31 after four straight road outings; he is 3-1 with a 3.12 ERA in six starts at Busch Stadium this season. After leaning on the bullpen for 4 2/3 innings of work Saturday, the Cubs need a strong outing from right-hander Jason Hammel. The veteran Hammel will have to contend with a hot-hitting Cardinals lineup led by second baseman Kolten Wong, who has recorded four straight multi-hit games.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, ESPN

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs RH Jason Hammel (5-2, 2.65 ERA) vs. Cardinals RH Carlos Martinez (8-3, 2.89)

Hammel is 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA over his last five starts and is coming off a dominant outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers in which he allowed two hits and struck out six in a 7 2/3 scoreless frames. The 32-year-old continues to pile up strikeouts at a career-best clip and has 92 in 91 2/3 innings compared to only 16 walks. Hammel is 1-2 with a 6.10 ERA in four starts against the Cardinals.

Martinez continued his breakout campaign Tuesday at Miami, striking out nine and limiting the Marlins to three runs over seven innings to earn his third win this month. The 23-year-old has pitched into the seventh in seven straight outings and has struck out eight or more in four of his last six starts. One of Martinez's few poor outings this season came against the Cubs on May 4, when he allowed seven runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings in a no-decision.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cardinals RF Jason Heyward, who is hitting .371 over his past 17 games with seven multi-hit contests during that stretch, is 8-for-14 versus Hammel.

2. The Cubs have won their last four Sunday games while the Cardinals are 8-3 on Sundays in 2015.

3. The Cardinals are the 18th team in the last 50 years to win 50 of their first 74 games, only two of which failed to reach the postseason — both prior to the addition of the wild card.

Mariners 2B Cano exits game with head contusion

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano left Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels after the sixth inning with a head contusion.

Cano was injured when an errant warm-up throw from Los Angeles shortstop Taylor Featherston to first baseman Albert Pujols before the start of the seventh inning struck Cano on the head.

The five-time All-Star had a visible welt on his forehead and left the field complaining of dizziness. He underwent Major League Baseball's concussion protocol test in the bottom of the seventh.

After getting tested, the Mariners said Cano did not have a concussion and he is listed as day to day.

Game of the Day: Cubs at Cardinals

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals (-129, 7.0)

ET, ESPN

LINE HISTORY: The Cardinals opened as -120 home favorites, but have been bet up to -129. The total has held steady at 7.0 runs.

MLB notebook: Mariners' Cano back in lineup
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano returned to the lineup Sunday after leaving Saturday night's game in the seventh inning with dizziness.

Cano was hit in the forehead by an errant throw during the Los Angeles Angels' infield warmups prior to the seventh inning of Seattle's 4-2 loss on Saturday night. The warmup throw from Angels shortstop Taylor Featherston to first baseman Albert Pujols struck Cano.

The five-time All-Star passed Major League Baseball's concussion protocol

"I've been hit in the head before, but I've never had anything happen like this," Cano said Saturday night. "He's a young guy (Featherston), but I don't think there's a reason for him to throw that hard between innings. I didn't hear anything. It hurts more when you don't expect it. Hopefully, everything goes well through the night and I feel good enough to play."

---Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton had surgery on his left wrist.

Stanton, who leads the major leagues in home runs and RBIs, fractured hamate bone in his left wrist and will miss four to six weeks.

Stanton, 25, was hurt on a swing-and-miss in the sixth inning of Friday night's 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He stayed in the game and said his final swing, in the ninth inning, was extremely painful.

---Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper, who has been dealing with hamstring soreness, was back in the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at Philadelphia.

Harper missed the last three games because of the leg issue suffered while running out a double in the 11th inning last Wednesday.

---The New York Yankees optioned infielder Gregorio Petit to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Petit is hitting .184 with five RBIs in 18 games this season.

The Yankees also selected right-handed relief pitcher Esmil Rogers to the 25-man roster from Triple-A. He has a 6.27 ERA over 33 innings in 18 games this season with the Yankees..

In addition, the team transferred outfielder Slade Heathcott to the 60-day disabled list. He has been out since May 27 with a quad strain.

---Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Jose Tabata, who ruined Max Scherzer's perfect-game bid by getting hit with a pitch a week ago, was designated for assignment.

With two outs in the ninth inning against the Washington Nationals and Scherzer, Tabata was hit by pitch. Scherzer competed his no-hitter, but lost his chance for a perfect game.

Tabata, 26, hit .289 with four RBIs for the Pirates this season. He was once a top prospect in the New York Yankees organization, but has yet to fulfill expectations.

Pirates pitcher Chris Volstad was also designated for assignment. He pitched two innings for the Pirates this season, giving up no runs and two hits.

---Outfielder Grady Sizemore, a three-time All-Star who has bounced back and forth from the majors and minors in recent years, is back in the major leagues after the Tampa Bay Rays purchased his contract from Class A Charlotte.

Sizemore batted second as Tampa Bay's designated hitter against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

Sizemore, 32, was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on June 1, and signed with the Rays two weeks later.

---The Houston Astros recalled right-hander Michael Feliz from Double-A Corpus Christi.

Feliz made one appearance with the team earlier this season, allowing one hit while recording one strikeout in one inning of work against the White Sox on May 31. He replaced left-hander Brett Oberholtzer, who was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Saturday night.

---The Atlanta Braves recalled right-hander Ryan Kelly from Triple-A Gwinnett and optioned right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon to the minors.

---Detroit Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander is scheduled to return to the rotation Tuesday against visiting the Pittsburgh Pirates.
