Mr Vegas NBA Bonus Play for Sunday, Feb 15, 2015: 8:30 PM ET

(851) WEST VS (852) EAST

Take: (851) WEST

There is little doubt that all the good teams, or at least the majority of them, reside in the NBA West. The East has been sending teams to the playoffs with sub-.500 records, while teams with winning records sit out in the West. The East will likely get little from stars Lebron James and Carmello Anthony other than a short stint. Anthony has a knee injury that will likely cause him to miss the season, but he insists he will play Sunday. How long or effective can't be much. James will also play sparingly due to healing from injuries. Dwayne Wade is out too. The West will be without Kobe Bryant, Anthony Davis and Blake Griffin. Still, I like the remaining talent in the West and while this one should go back and forth, the West just has too much overall talent. Take the West.

Bonus Play Sunday

(859) LOYOLA CHICAGO at (860) BRADLEY 2:00PM

Take: (860) BRADLEY -2.5

I’m going to have a tough time building a strong case for Bradley. The Braves are a lowly 8-18, they’ve been shorthanded due to injuries and suspensions for some time, and they weren’t exactly a powerhouse to begin with. But this is a game Bradley has a good chance to win, mostly thanks to problems on the opponent side.

Loyola was one of the major surprises in all of D-1 for the first half of the season. The unheralded Ramblers played some tenacious defense and caught several unsuspecting adversaries asleep at the switch in assembling a somewhat stunning 10-2 non-conference record. But one key injury has really hurt Loyola and while they’re still a very respectable 15-10, it’s clear the Ramblers are simply not close to the level they were enjoying earlier in the campaign.

Milton Doyle’s ankle injury has turned out to be a very big deal. Minus Doyle, this Loyola team has been pretty pathetic offensively. The conference stats speak for themselves. Loyola is deal last in turnover percentage, they get to the foul line less than any other MVC team, and when they do get to the stripe, they’re the worst free throw shooting team in the league. The Ramblers are also permitting a load of offensive rebounds by the opposition. Simply stated, they’re a bad basketball team right now and that pretty much explains their slide in the conference standings.

Nevertheless, this is still a 15-10 entry getting points from one that is 8-18. Thus, you have a choice. Assume the oddsmakers have gotten this line wrong and that the wrong team is favored. Or, believe that the guys who post the numbers are recognizing a team that is in pretty rough current form and based on that is deserving of being cast in the small underdog role today.

There aren’t many spots where Bradley becomes even mildly attractive, but this could well be one of those rare instances. Throw out the early non-league games and focus on just the conference stats, and the comparative numbers actually do favor Bradley. That’s hardly a guarantee of success here and this does figure to be a tightly contested duel. But I see the Bradley side having a decent chance to record a win here and I will make the Braves the Sunday Bonus Play.

Jim's NBA Bonus Play for Sunday, February 15, 2015: 8:30 PM ET

(851) WEST VS (852) EAST

Take: UNDER

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Sunday, February 15, 2015 is in the NBA scheduled ALL-Star game. Don't expect to be seeing some of the big names in this one. Carmelo Anthony looks to be done for the season and may just make a quick New York minute hello. Lebron James needs the rest so who knows how long he'll play. The West will be without injured stars Kobe Bryant, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis. Still, this is an All-Star game and expect back and forth action with no defense. Last year this game totalled 318 points, well over this year's line. In fact, two of the last three years would have gone over this year's total. However, other than the last two over's, if you looked back at the previous 26 All-Star games, NONE have gone over without the aid of an OT. During that time there has even been four OT's with just two of those making it over today's number. History shows that 4-25 O/U the last 29 years shows us that the oddsmaker is taking advantage of the bettors proclivity for points and overs. I'm sticking with history in this one and keeping with the UNDER.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Chicago Blackhawks

1* Bonus Play Pittsburgh Penguins PUCK LINE

I have always maintained that I would gladly lay -500 odds if I thought the line should really be -800 and in a game which I believe will be decided late or in the extra frames, I have no issues whatsoever in laying the price for the extra 1.5 goals of insurance. Chicago is most recently coming off a 3-1 win over New Jersey on Friday, but lost consecutive games previous to Arizona and Vancouver. Note that this is a revenge game for the Penguins after falling 3-2 in a shootout to the Hawks at home on January 21st. Pittsburgh was without the services of star forward Evgeni Malkin in that game and had lost three of five without him, but it has gone 4-1-0 since he returned, the Pens most recently holding on for a 5-4 shootout win over Ottawa on Thursday. Marc-Andre Fleury has looked a lot better of late, I think he’s a “wash” today vs. Corey Crawford. With Malkin back in the line-up and with revenge fresh on its mind, I think that PITTSBURGH on the PUCK LINE is worth the price of admission in this spot.

Valparaiso vs. Wisconsin Milwaukee

Jack's Free Pick Sunday: Wisconsin-Milwaukee +5.5

The Valparaiso Crusaders are coming off their biggest win of the season in a 63-59 triumph at home over Wisconsin-Green Bay. That win moved them into first place in the Horizon League standings. Off such a huge victory, this is the perfect spot to fade the Crusaders as they'll be in major letdown mode.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee comes into this game playing its best basketball of the season, and it is fully capable of pulling off the upset. The Panthers have gone 3-1 SU & 3-1 ATS in their last four games overall with their only loss coming at Wisconsin-Green Bay 70-81 as 13.5-point underdogs.

The home/away splits for the Panthers are insane. They are just 1-12 in road games this season, but a solid 9-3 in home games. They are 5-1 at home in Horizon League play with their only loss to Wisconsin-Green Bay. That includes blowout wins over Youngstown State (77-62), Wright State (67-41) and Oakland (84-67).

That win over Oakland was the Panthers' last game, and it was arguably their best performance of the season considering they were 2-point dogs. It was also played on Tuesday, meaning that the Panthers have had four days off in between games. Valpo, meanwhile, beat Green Bay on Friday. That means it has only had one day off in between games. The extra rest and preparation that Wisconsin-Milwaukee gets is the biggest reason I believe it will pull off the upset Sunday.

Bryce Drew is 2-9 ATS in road games when playing with one or less days rest as the coach of Valpo. Wisconsin-Milwaukee is 90-58 ATS in its last 148 games when playing just its 2nd game in 8 days. The Panthers are 102-73 ATS in their last 175 games when revenging a loss against an opponent. Wisconsin-Milwaukee is 17-6 ATS after playing a home game over the last two years. Bet Wisconsin-Milwaukee Sunday.

Arizona vs. Washington State

Free NCAAB play on the Washington State Cougars

The Arizona Wildcats have had some hiccups on the road this season, suffering losses to inferior opposition at Oregon State and Arizona State. They bounced back on Friday with a convincing win over the Washington Huskies, but I think they are being asked to cover too great a number here just two days later.

Keep in mind the Huskies have lost six straight, and they are undermanned since parting ways with big man Robert Upshaw. The Cougars should prove to be far more competitive, as they come off a home win over the same Arizona State team that upset the Wildcats last weekend.

The Cougars have defeated some of the top teams in the conference at home, with wins over Oregon and Stanford. WSU is 7-3 overall at home this season, covering the points in six of their last eight.

The Wildcats have won three straight visits to Pullman, but the average margin of victory in those games was less than seven points.

Take Washington State Cougars

Miami (FL) vs. Boston College

5* Bonus Play Miami Hurricanes -3.5

The Miami Hurricanes are starting to play better and have a shot to make the NCAA Tournament. They are led by guards Sheldon McClelland and Angel Rodriguez. Boston College has been disappointing as their defense and rebounding has been below par. Olivier Hanlan has played well for the home team and should be second team all-ACC but he has little help. Miami has shown they can win on the road as they won at Duke and at Syracuse.

Miami wins by 7

Arizona State vs. Washington

Play - Arizona State.

Edges - Sun Devils: 6-0 ATS last six games off a SU favorite loss; and 9-2-1 ATS in this series with a sub .666 record after facing Washington State. Huskies 1-7 ATS home after facing Arizona when facing .666 or less opponents; and 4-9 ATS home overall this season. With the Huskies 0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS in their last six games, look for the Devils to avenge last year’s loss in this series here today. We recommend a 1-unit play on Arizona State. Thank you and good luck as always.

St. Louis Blues at Florida Panthers 5:05PM

Bonus Play St. Louis Blues

Florida will be undermanned on its blue line Sunday with two of its steady contributors in the team?s defensive rotation likely to be miss this game with the St Louis Blues. Dmitri Kulikov will likely miss multiple games after clipping Dallas Stars' super Tyler Seguin on Friday in what turned out to be a 2-0 loss for the Coyotes. Seguin will be out a few weeks after that hit which helped the league decide to require Kulikov to conduct an in-person meeting with NHL officials which then gives the league the prerogative to suspend a player for at least six games. The Panthers will also be without Willie Mitchell who has already been declared out with an upper body injury. Holes at the blue is a scary proposition when facing this Blues team that is 2nd in the NHL by averaging 3.1 goals-per-game. Florida has only found the back of the net once in its last two contests. The Panthers return home where they are 12-13 overall while having lost seven of their last 10 games. Florida finds themselves in 9th place in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt with 49 points, four behind the Bruins who occupy the 8th and final spot in the playoff race right now. However, this young team has shown little of the tenacity or fire against better competition to suggest they can make a serious run to overtake a veteran team like Boston. Florida remains burdened by a 16-43 losing streak over the last few seasons against teams with a winning percentage over 60%.

St Louis has won two straight games after an impressive 6-3 win in Tampa Bay against a very good Lightning team. Getting Brian Elliott back in net after he missed time with an injury has stabilized things. Elliott has been quite good when healthy, as the Blues are 17-7-2 in his starts while he has generated a 2.15 goals-against-average and a .922 save percentage. However, the strength of this team is with its depth on offense. St Louis leads the NHL in total goals and goals at even strength since December 1st. The Blues entered the All-Star break with seven players having at least 30 points and five players with at least 14 goals. After a game where they scored at least five goals, this Blues have turned around to win 23 of their last 28 contests. St Louis has also won SIX of its last seven games on the road. The Blues have won five straight encounters with the Panthers and I expect that winning streak to reach six by Sunday evening. Take St Louis.

Good luck...Larry
