ok - a lot of us here are in 1 - so let's use this week/thread to discuss week's pix.

last week, i (and i sense many others) took the rams and sweat it out - but i made it to week 2.

looking at the week, and looking at future weeks, the one team i am leaning HEAVILY to is:

New Orleans Saints

looking at their sked:

http://www.nfl.com/teams/schedule/NO

this appears to be the ONLY week i'd want to take them and get a "less than top-notch" team out of the way and save some "top-notch" teams for later. if this team has any post-season plans - they MUST win this week - or they are done!

this season i am gonna try and pick against the lower level NFL teams as much as i can, and right now - i see those teams as: Giants, 49ers, 49ers, Chargers and Browns (i don't care if both won in week 1 - they will still suck!) - especially when these teams are on the road.

so, what's the peanut gallery here think about Week 2?

I'm doing the same as you and picking the lower teams to lose at the beginning.

I'm leaning towards picking Chicago to lose this week against Green Bay

add the Dolphins to your shit list. I know their defense is good and will win some games but they wont be up for every game.

I really like Tampa Bay this week for the pool. This is a must-win for them to avoid an 0-2 start. Seattle will probably be without Alexander and will also be making their second cross-country trip in 2 weeks. Really like TB in the 'dog' role also.

I know what you are saying about NO, but I hate asking bad teams to win for me this early in this kind of pool.

Good luck.

i mapped out the season ahead of time and was looking to save/play TB in week 11 when they host SF. the 49ers 2 homies before and 1 after TB so the chance to get fat and lazy is there.

the only thing that is bad for TB is the SF game is in the middle of an AT falcons and panthers "sandwich"

and i'd rather have NO hosting SF than TB hosting Seat - with or without Alexander. Seat can win that game - and might - no reason to take a chance there.

Highdaddy - i am actually looking at Miami hosting AZ in week 9 for my pick that week.

i am on the pats this week. if you look at the pats schedule they play a very tough out of conference schedule. I wouldnt want to risk taking them against the dolphins or the bills because you never know how rivalry games play out. and they play SF, but its the last game of the season and the pats may not have anything to play for by then (not to metion that most pools will be over by then). and home to seattle baltimore and cinci (week 14) are not easy wins.

i know its the obvious pick, but teams like the saints are very enigmatic and are tough to count on especially when you may not get a better chance with the pats.

Quacker, you can not look ahead and forcast what team to use each week. I have been in a death bed pool since 1988.Most people including myself go week to week or like the alcaholics day to day.Too many things happeneing.Where do you have the Carolina Panthers at? Now you have to re-track on this team because they lost a ACE in Steve Smith.Who is going to replace him and have his numbers on this team? Big Lou?The Saints are 2nd or 1st worse at home SU and ATS next to the Cardinals. The head coach Hastlett who by the way is as good as Tony Dungy has ONLY won 1 coaches challenge since he taught Lassie to sit!

Golden pick to use is the KC Chiefs. Not because the touts like KC to go where ever, but because this team LOVES home! They are 30-11 ATS in September @ 18-3 -1 ats in home openers.Steve Smith out factor.Afs vs. Nfc factor. And before the year started everybody has KC circled to win the game.So come on in and join the party on the boat with the Captain #5 where everybody is a winner.........Life is a party in the united States.......

Winky,
I'm on the Saints too. My only concern is hurricane Ivan. Do you think that they will be 100% focused to play with everything that is going on down there? Lots of distractions.

Let me know what you think...
thanks, sam

winky,
one thing I always remember. It rarely goes the whole season. If you get a bunny with a team and you can get away with it, like Miami, SD, SF etc great, but if you can just ride out the first 8-10 weeks their usually are only a handfull left, so i always try to remember that

Captain: i have looked at Caro in Week 7 hosting SD

i mapped out the season SOLELY so that i could see weeks where there was literally like ONE team where i could safely say, "they will win for sure" and make sure i save them for that week.

mapping out the season is not set in stone - but it helps.

as for NO and "Ivan" - that is something to factor in - but also realize it will also be tough for Sf to get into town and the fact the saints are at home helps because they can stay in the area and don't have to worry about playing "X"-thousand miles away and worrying about family since they will be very close to their families.

Quacker, San Diego at Carolina week 7? If so you have a shot.If it is in Carolina, the 1st half is a lock---Carolina.Then San Diego will play the 2nd half..Just ask the Raiders last week in the east.Search lite for the 1st half, then a game for the 2nd half...Good luck, baby.

KC is my choice. There is no-way I would take the Aints if they were favored by 14 points.

The ghosts of Jim Mora and Bobby Herbert still hang from the rafters in the Cup in Aint land.It Aint happening again to a sorry piss pour team and club called the AINTS!

Winky,

I was also looking at New Orleans. I think they are a very good team and I don't see them losing 2 straight at home to start the year.

I got off of them because I read they are staying in San Antonio while the hurricane blows over. They might not be focused so I crossed them off.

I was looking at CINNCY, because Miami has no offense and I think the Cinncy offense is pretty good. Oh yeah, Cinncy has a prime time TV game for the first time in like a decade. Bet that place will be jumping.

Always go with New England though. Also think Green Bay is worth a look.

line: i need GB in week 4 when they host NYG - and as you can see here - a tough week to pick if you take out that game.

http://www.nfl.com/schedules

actually NO could be MORE focused because now they are away from family and focusing SOLELY on football and while they will spend their off time thinking about back home - now that they are in a "training camp" mentality should bring them closer together.

for what it is worth - i have a very good friend who lives in the NO area and covers the team for one of the local media. i will ring hime up thursday and see what he says - and post it here as far as a suicide pick.

I took New England...looking at their schedule (up to week 10), I feel this may be the best week to take them.

this isn't for a suicide pool here (although they now offer one thru the site) but rather a place for people to discuss the pools they are in - not thru this site.

as for the Pats - there are better spots to play them - or rather - to save them.
