The top 11 golfers after round 3 of the MCI Heritage fired a cumulative +9, to set up Stewart Cink to charge all the way back from 22nd and 9 shots off the lead, to tie for the win. Cink's come from behind playoff win is a new US record.
Ted Purdy held a 4 shot going into Sunday's final round, but shot a 2 over 73, to swing the door wide open for now 3 time PGA Tour winner, Stewart Cink.
Cink finished off Purdy in the 2004 season's longest playoff of 5 holes. Purdy narrowly escaped losing the playoff the first time they played 16. His drive was headed OB but luckily hit a marshall's cart to stay in bounds. The 2nd time they played 16, Purdy made a nice par save but it wasn't enough as Stewart Cink birdied from the waste area to secure his 3rd PGA Tour win.
