For me at the age of 57 using a stationary bike along with nutritious low cal diet works very well. I recently moved and couldn't take my old bike, and I gained weight even though I tried to be careful about what I eat. I recently purchased a used Vitamaster Airwave II (not as good as the Schwinn), and after only a few days, I am back in the goove working my back to 3 twenty minute sets per day along with a 2000 caloire per day diet. I am starting to feel great already.

That is great to hear! I'm beside myself on how much harder it gets as I get older. I miss being able to regularly eat fast food and still lose weight or tone up simply becuase I'm excercising. .Those days are long gone!

You better pedal extra hard! You will have some extra work to do after The Bash. That's good though - times like the Bash should be a reward for your hard efforts.

Don't worry about falling off "The Bike", just make sure you get back on when you get home!

CoachLT rides a stationary recumbant bike several days a week for about 45 minutes. He just turned 60 years old and looks much better than he did a few years ago. He's lost 50 or so pounds!

I ride a recumbant bike at the gym occasionally for a curveball. I do Spinning Class occasionally also.

Keep up the good work. When it's a habit it's a lot easier to do!

Update -- love the bike - it has two hand pedals instead of normal bike handle bars so I get a great upper-body workout as well as the bicycle effect on the legs. Natrually the cardio is good also. I switched to two 30 minute sets a day (Sunday off) and have dropped 20 pounds in 6 weeks, plus I am actually developing new muscle in my arms, shoulders, and back from the hand pedal movement. I have the bike in my Rx. work space office so I can just stop working (as Rx. Head Mod) for 40 minutes twice a day. I also learned from a dietician to do a 3 minute cooldown after each set (I peddle slower for 3 minutes).

Bottom line the bike is perfect for me at my age (57)..
