Week 2 CFB Recap (Part I)
-Central Michigan (1-1), winners of three of the last four conference titles, had won 18 straight against MAC East Division teams.
-Temple is 2-0 for the first time since 1981.
-Auburn QB Cameron Newton threw for two touchdowns and accounted for 206 yards of total offense. He completed 11-of-19 passes for 136 yards and ran for 70 yards on 18 carries.
-Since 2009, only three players have more games with 100 rushing yards and a rushing TD than West Virginia RB Noel Devine.
-Houston (2-0) extended a school record with its 17th straight home win.
-UTEP QB Trevor Vittatoe was 30 of 54 for 340 yards and three touchdowns for the Miners.
-The Cougars finished with 643 yards of total offense. QB Case Keenum was injured last in the third quarter with the team leading 37-17.
-UConn ran up 444 yards of offense, while holding Texas Southern to 169.
-East Carolina QB Dominique Davis threw three touchdowns and ran for two scores to help the Pirates beat Memphis 49-27.
-The Pirates, who scored 51 points in their opener and have already as many 40-point games this season as they did during least year’s run to a second straight league title.
-Memphis never came close to East Carolina, committing three turnovers that led to touchdowns, as they fell behind 28-3 in the opening period.
-Wake Forest backup QB Tanner Price threw three touchdowns and ran for another, as the Demon Deacons held off Duke 54-48 for its 11th straight victory in the series.
-The Demon Deacons posted the first consecutive 50-point games in school history, outgaining the Blue Devils 500-487.
-Wisconsin RB John Clay ran for 137 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-14 win over San Jose State. It was his eighth straight 100-yard rushing game as the Badgers won their 15th consecutive home opener and improved to 13-0 in non conference regular season games under head coach Bret Bielema.
-The Badgers have committed two turnovers in each of the first two games this year.
-San Jose State QB Jordan La Secia went 20-of-26 for 228 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
-Hawaii QB Bryant Moniz was 25-for-36 for 343 yards passing. He started the game 17-for-22 for 239 yards and three touchdowns in staking Hawaii to a 21-0 lead.
-Michigan State RB Edwin Baker rank for an 80-yard touchdown and had 183 yards rushing to lead Michigan State to a 30-17 win over Florida Atlantic.
-Kansas freshman QB Jordan Webb threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns in his first career start to lead the Jayhawks to their third straight win versus an ACC opponent.
-Georgia Tech rank for 291 yards on the ground, but QB Josh Nesbitt went just 5-for-15 for 116 yards through the air.
-South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Gamecocks to a 17-6 victory over Georgia.
-Georgia was outgained by more than 100 yards and held without a touchdown for the first time in three years since its last loss to South Carolina, 16-12, in 2007.

Kansas
-KU is making its first trip to the state of Mississippi for a football game and will play a team from the state of Mississippi for the second time.
-Playing a non-Saturday, non-conference road game for the third time in the last five years. The Jayhawks lost 37-31 in double-overtime at Toledo in 2006 and 37-34 on a field goal on the game’s final play at South Florida in 2008.
-Playing its first road game of the year and has lost four straight road contests since winning at UTEP last year.
-The Jayhawks are 21-3 in their last 24 non-conference games.
-Redshirt freshman QB Jordan Webb tossed three touchdown passes, as Kansas upset No. 15 Georgia Tech, 28-25. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Jayhawks.
-Kansas and Southern Miss will be meeting for the second time in history, as well as the second year in a row. The Jayhawks defeated the visiting Eagles 35-28 in Lawrence on September 26, 2009.
-Own a 18-9 record against current members of Conference USA, with two victories against the league last year (UTEP 49-7, Southern Miss 35-28).
-Team is 6-3-1 in its last 10 games after defeating a ranked team in the previous game. The Jayhawks have won three straight games in this situation.

Southern Miss
-Brings in a nine-game home winning streak dating back to a 70-14 victory over UAB on Nov. 1, 2008.
-Since 2001, Southern Miss is 4-2 against schools from Automatic Qualifying conferences. The team has won their last tow games in this situation at home, beating Virginia last season and NC State, 37-17, on September 16, 2006.
-The Golden Eagles are 3-12 all-time against the Big XII. USM is 1-2 against the Big XII in Hattiesburg since 1998.
-Since the reconstruction of the stadium during the 1974-75 seasons, the Golden Eagles have compiled a 121-42 record since the start of the 1976 campaign.
-Over the current nine-game home winning streak, the team is averaging 40.3 points a contest at home over that stretch.
-Despite four new offensive linemen and the loss of its top two running backs, the Golden Eagles have tallied over 400 yards of total offense in their first two games.
-Forced turnovers in 26 of 28 games during the Fedora era and have had two or more in 19 contests.

Big 12 Football
-Conference teams are 21-3 through the first two weeks of non-league play - the best non-conference win percentage in FBS.
-Big 12 teams scored 52 touchdowns from scrimmage in last Saturday’s games. Those scoring plays averaged 23.1 yards.
-Missouri (25) has joined Texas, Nebraska and Oklahoam in the coaches rankings.
-Baylor’s 2-0 start is the first since 2005. The Bears have not allowed a touchdown in their first two games, which last happened in 1960.
-The Bears last win over an opponent ranked in the Top 5 was in 1985, a 20-13 road win at No. 3 USC. Its last victory over a ranked team came in 2004, a 35-34 win over No. 16 Texas A&M.
-In 51 games under coach Dan Hawkins, the Colorado defense has been called for only 90 penalties with just two this season.
-Iowa State leads the all-time series over Kansas State, 49-40-4, and the two teams have split the past six meetings.
-Kansas looks to stop a four-game losing streak and improve to 22-3 in its last 25 non-conference games.
-Kansas State has won 16 of the last 20 meetings over Iowa State. Since 1990, the Wildcats are 124-23 when scoring first and 139-5 when leading at the half.
-In two games, Kansas State running backs Daniel Thomas and William Powell have combined to gain 492 yards on 59 carries.
-Missouri has picked off six passes in two games. In 13 games last year, the Tigers had just eight total picks. The defense is tops in the nation with nine total turnovers and the team boasts a +6 turnover margin.
-Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez ranks seventh in the nation in rushing with 284 yards on 21 attempts. Washington ranks 62nd nationally in rushing defense.
-Oklahoma ranks third in the Big 12 in rushing defense and will face Air Force - currently leading the country at 423 ypg.
-Oklahoma State RB Kendall Hunter ranks second in the nation in rushing with 414 yards on 49 carries.
-In-state rivals OSU and Tulsa have played 70 times with the Cowboys holding a 38-27-5 series advantage.
-Texas holds a 43-15 lead in the series against Texas Tech, with the Longhorns prevailing 34-24 in Austin last year.
-Longhorns QB Garrett Gilbert had career highs for passing yards (222) and completions (22) last week.
-Texas A&M gained 565 yards against Louisiana Tech, surpassing the 500-yard barrier for the second consecutive games and 11th time in three seasons under Mike Sherman.
-Texas Tech QB Taylor Potts is looking for his sixth-consecutive game with at least two touchdown passes against Texas this weekend.

ACC Football
-Boston College enjoys an open date before hosting Virginia Tech. The Eagles held Kent State to just four rushing yards and 197 yards of total offense.
-With the win over Kent State, BC’s Frank Spaziani’s record as head caoch at BC is now 11-5.
-Maryland is 2-0 for the first time since the 2001 season, which was the first for head coach Ralph Friedgen.

Cal
-Matchup between a Golden Bears team that leads the nation in total defense (161 ypg) and a Nevada club that paces the country in total offense (592 ypg). The two teams have combined to outscore their opponents by a 204-40 margin in their first two outings.
-Cal leads the all-time series with Nevada, 21-1-1. The teams have played only once since 1945, a 33-15 Cal win in Berkeley on September 21, 1996. The Bears have won 12 straight in the series.

Arkansas
-Arkansas is 2-0 for the first time since 2008 and the fourth time in the last 10 seasons.
-The Razorbacks have won seven of its last eight games dating back to last season. Alabama and Florida are the only two other schools in the SEC to win at least seven of their last eight.
-Allowed 10 points in its first two games. The Razorbacks have let their opponents run just 23 plays on the Arkansas side of the field.

-Georgia is 3-0 all-time in Athens and 5-0 overall in the series under head coach Mark Richt.
-Team is 29-43-2 against ranked opponents in Sanford Stadium. The last time an unranked Georgia squad faced a ranked team between the hedges came during the 2006 season.
-The Bulldogs are 0-3 against Top 12 ranked teams in Athens since a 27-12 victory over Clemson in 1991.

Maryland
-Maryland moved to 2-0 for the first time in three years with Saturday’s dominating 62-3 win over Morgan State.

Kansas State
-Kansas State improved to 2-0 on the season following a 48-24 win over Missouri State last weekend. QB Carson Coffman leads the team and is the most efficient signal caller in the Big 12 with a 169.7 efficiency rating.
-Wildcat rushing attack ranks 14th nationally and second in the Big 12 after averaging 259.5 yards per game on the ground.
-Team is 66-46 overall in Big 12 play and 6-8 overall in Big 12 openers since the conference’s formation in 1996. The Wildcats are 5-6 in these contests under head coach Bill Snyder.

Purdue
-Offense posted a season-best 402 total yards of total offense, including 227 rushing, in a 31-21 win over Western Illinois.
-QB Robert Marve tossed his first touchdown pass en route to 23 of 34 passing for 171 yards.
-Potential loss of wide receiver Keith Smith for a prolonged amount of time, may cause significant problems for the team offensively. Smith has 158 career receptions and 1,709 receiving yards.

Northern Illinois
-Play four of their first five games on the road and begin a stretch of three consecutive road games versus the Fighting Illini. Under head coach Jerry Kill, NIU is 4-9 in road games since 2008, with six of the losses coming by nine points or less. These games including losses to Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
-Earned its first win of 2010 with a 23-17 decision over North Dakota. NIU got 318 yards on the ground.
-Under Kill, The Huskies are 4-6 in non-conference games with three of the losses by four points or less.
-Running back Chad Spann leads the Mid-American Conference and ranks 25th in the country in rushing. In addition, his average of 5.53 yards per carry ranks fourth all-time at NIU.

Ohio
-Ohio played two home games to begin the season, a 33-10 win over Wofford and the other a 20-13 MAC loss to Toledo.
-A win would put head coach Frank Solich’s winning percentage two games over .500.
-In 2008, Ohio took a lead into the fourth quarter, before eventually falling 26-14 to the Buckeyes in front of the largest crowd the program has every played in front of. Ohio is 0-14 all-time against nationally-ranked programs.
-After two weeks, the Bobcats are first in the MAC in pass defense (55.0) and opponent first downs (26). Nationally, Ohio is ranked second in pass defense behind Navy and ninth in total defense.
-The team didn’t allow a completion in the win over Wofford.

Ohio State
-Ohio State holds a 6-0 lead in the series against the Ohio Bobcats.
-Leads the NCAA in turnover margin (+3.50), having not committed a turnover and forcing seven through two games.
-QB Terrelle Pryor has thrown 52 passes this season without an interception, including 28 runs without a fumble.

Kent State
-Kent State is 0-20 all-time against opponents ranked in the AP Top 25.
-Sophomore QB Spencer Keith has completed 66.2 percent of his passes en route to throwing for 476 yards and four touchdowns in the first two weeks.
-Kicker Freddy Cortez is 14-for-15 on field goal attempts over the last seven games.
-Saturday’s game is the third all-time meeting, with the Nittany Lions winning 21-6 in 1965 and 32-10 in 2003. The Golden Flashes are 0-9 all-time against the Big Ten.
-Struggled to rush the ball in two games, ranking 112th in the nation at 70.5 yards per game. The stat is surprising due to this year’s running backs having a combined 5,269 yards in their collegiate careers.
-Kickoff coverage led the nation last year at 15.33 yards per return. The unit is off to another strong start, ranking fourth in the country at 15.08 currently.


Penn State
-Penn State’s 17 first downs last week were just two less than Alabama’s 19, but the Nittany Lions were plagued by four turnovers. The Nittany Lions outgained Alabama by a 152-121 margin in the second half.
-Since the start of the 2004 season, Penn State has held opponents to 17 points or less in 51 of 77 games.
-The Nittany Lions have a 62-13 record in non-conference games overall since starting Big Ten play in 1993. The team has won 16 of their last 18 non-conference games.
-Penn State has a 41-5-1 record all-time against current members of the MAC.
-Won 34 of their last 48 games in Beaver Stadium and have an all-time mark of 243-59 in that venue.

Georgia Tech
-Georgia Tech is hoping to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time in the Paul Johnson era. The Yellow Jackets haven’t lost consecutive games since the final regular season and bowl game in 2007. Tech is 7-0 under Johnson following a loss.
-Won both ACC openers under Johnson and five of their last six.
-Rank second nationally in rushing offense (331.5 ypg). The Yellow Jackets finished in the top five nationally in rushing in 2008 and 2009.
-Completed just seven passes this season, but average 18.3 yards per completion.
-Won four of the last five meetings and 10 of the last 12. Tech won last year’s meeting, 24-7, in Atlanta on September 26.

North Carolina
-Leads the series 10-8-2 in games played in Chapel Hill, including a 28-7 win in the most recent matchup in 2008. Carolina has won just twice in the last 12 meetings, with both wins coming at home.
-Carolina allowed 162 rushing yards against LSU.
-QB T.J. Yates leads all ACC quarterbacks with 32 career starts.
-North Carolina is 4-0 in home openers under head coach Butch Davis. Those wins came against James Madison, McNeese State and The Citadel.
