Zurich, Switzerland (Sports Network) -FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter announced on Saturday that South Africa has won the right to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

South Africa received a total of 14 votes with Morocco coming in a close second with 10. Egypt was left out, not receiving any votes.
The bidding process was spread over an 18-month period and began in 2002 when five countries, including South Africa, submitted complete bids. Those countries then allowed an inspection group from FIFA to enter the country and decide if it could support the event. The climax of the procedure came when the FIFA Executive Committee meet on Saturday to deliberate over four bids, Tunisia withdraw, and decide who the host would be.
