Im trying to hold myself back here but am having a tough time. There is a match I really really like tomorrow in the English Premiership.

Im backing Newcastle pk -150 against Sunderland for a variety of reasons.

The toon army are playing very good soccer the last few matches after a rather mediocre season and look to continue this streak against a hated opponent in Sunderland. Newcastle comes off of a 3-1 victory over Wigan, a 2-1 over Boro and a 3-1 over Tottenham. Victories which have turned around the ship for Newcastle. On the other hand, Sunderland sits at the absolute bottom of the Premiership with 12 pts, 16 pts away from their next opponent, with no hope of catching them or saving themselves from relegation.

The Sunderland coach has asked his team to not lay down for this game but its kinda hard not to when you're so far out of it....

Another interesting nugget is the fact that Sunderland has not defeated Newcastle at home in 26 years. Hopefully that streak prolongs itself for another match....

Like I said, I am very excited about this pick. Of course, it can fail and By no stretch of the imagination can you think of this as a lock but for the value of it, I really like it.

If you do decide to join in, good luck. Oh and please, if you want to express your opinion, do so, but theres no need for name calling or things of that nature, good luck to all.

Slim,

The market is at best -0.5 (or 1x2 same thing) 2.00 (even money/+100) for Newcastle, that would relate to approx -210 at pk (given a draw is a push).

I like your pick but for very different reasons.

1. I refute all arguments in sport that relate to 20 years ago unless an extensive amount of travel is involved. There will be at most 4 players out of the 22 on the pitch tomorrow who played even 5 years ago in this fixture. If it is a ground/pitch-related argument then it still doesnt hold as Sunderland moved into a new stadium 6 years ago.

2. Sunderland may not have beaten Newcastle at home for 26 years but they have beaten them several times in Newcastle, so the rivalry isnt as one sided as your stat suggests.

3. Newcastle have played well since Souness (coach) was sacked, but lost 4 games on the bounce before their latest 3 wins (2 at home, one away to a disinterested team), so 3 wins out of the last 7 isnt so impressive.

4. Newcastle are missing the heart of their team tomorrow: Emre, Parker and Bowyer who will all be missed. Add in long term casualties Owen and Taylor and they;re missing arguably their 5 best players (Shearer too long in the tooth now). Their in form striker Ameobi lost 2 front teeth on Saturday as well.

5. Newcastle had a tough game on Saturday, Sunderland played Friday night, an extra days rest could be crucial for Sunderland.

6. Sunderland may be bottom of the league with a record low points total, but they are in good heart after a 0-0 draw at Man Utd on Friday. They have played all season with alot of spirit and often dominted games without scoring goals to put the icing on their team work and creative play.

7. This is a HUGE rivalry game, the fans DETEST one another and there is always trouble at the game. There will be a full house crowd for the 1st time this year, and the Sunderland players will be up for this. On talent alone, Newcastle should crucify Sunderland, but the form book goes out of the window in these derby matches when passion runs high. Despite being relegated, some Sunderland fans will consider the season a mild success if they win v Newcastle.

If you can find pk -150 then it is a GREAT pick, win or lose, but I doubt you can find that price.

Best wishes

I took Newcastle - .5 - 111

I'd be as surprised as all hell if Newcastle dont walk away with this but even a one goal victory will suffice and at a low price.

The -.5 +104, it's the same thing. Your team has to win with either line.

Should anyone be interested I bet the Middlesbro-West Ham OVERS today.

Both teams have important cup matches later in the week and will field under strength teams. When this has happened in the past 2 months the overs has been a sound play.

Slim,
Its an old bookmaking Term, meaning a Horse or anything I suppose, usually the Favourite is going out in odds, not a good sign on track. The term is called Drifting, as in the betting, a Barge also is known for slipping its ties and drifting, hence the saying. :drink:

hmmmm ok thanks winbet. Ill take it to mean , kicking ass today :) as the good guys have prevailed 4-1. So much for the excitement of a team that is absolutely buried in the tables. :)
