USA vs Costa Rica
- normally I'd back USA at anything -1 goal or better as they are a superior team to CR but I really don't understand this selection in defense.

Forwards: Up front all our strikers are in form. Altidore is up to 25 goals this year with AZ....Herculez has netted 9 for Santos including 4 in his last 5 appearances...Eddie Johnson just scored the series winner for Seattle to KO Tigres in the cup...Deuce has 5 in 16 starts with Spurs, and Terrence Boyd is 3rd in scoring in Austrian league. So business as usual up front.

Midfield: The big missings here are Landon Donovan, Jose Torres, and Danny Williams...all would likely start in midfield but Williams and Torres are injured and Donovan is on some zen quest to find himself. Still I'm not too concerned. Bradley is a shoo-in at attacking midfield with Jermaine Jones behind him. Kljestan is in nice form for Anderlecht, Corona's been tearing it up for Tijuana, and Zusi/Shea add some talent and speed on the wings. Will never agree to Beasley and Beckerman being on this club but they're Klinsmann favorites for whatever reason.

Defense: a giant wtf?!?! I understand that Castillo, Chandler, Fabian Johnson, Spector, and Chernundolo are injured and all had a really good shot at starting this wek but the selections are horrendous. We have a 6-man defense with 0 caps, 0 caps, 0 caps, 1 cap, 5 caps, 6 caps...that's it. Beltran and Morrow are shocks for me as I don't rate Beltran as one of the 3 best right backs in MLS and Morrow really has 1 full year of professional experience. Besler was MLS Defender of the Year but has looked terrible in first 3 games of this new season. Clarence Goodson plays regularly at Brondby at a lesser league than MLS. Gonzalez and Cameron are the only two guys that would have normally been on this team and neither would have started over the injured guys so this is a makeshift back 4 with a goalie (Brad Guzan) making his first real important start of his international career. Left out were guys like Eric Lichaj (Villa), Zak Whitbread (Leicster), captain Bocanegra (Santander), Morales (Hertha), Onyewu (Malaga), Tim Ream (Bolton), and Michael Parkhurst (Augsburg now, FC Nord earlier this year) who played in all of Nord's Champions League matches!

Our "A" defense hasn't been all that impressive so real worried what our "B" defense will do these next two games. We've allowed 2 to Honduras, 2 to Russia, were scored on by Guatemala (2x) and Antigua (2x) not to mention 2 vs Jamaica and a goal allowed vs Scotland plus 4 vs Brazil. Not a good 10 months in defense....

Really believe the only way this game doesn't see 3 goals is if Klinsmann adopts a 4-2-3-1 formation with Edu and Jones both playing holding MF and a lone striker. But because we lost in Honduras and have a match next week in Azteca we're in a must-win situation already in WC Qualifying and adopting a defensive posture isn't going to happen. With so many in-form strikers and midfielders I believe Klinsmann will play to the team strength which is clearly attack. Costa Rica can afford to hang back and hit this weak defense on counter attacks. They've not had a lot of trouble scoring on USA top defense to begin with (9 goals scored last 4 games) but have eaten a lot of goals when playing in the states. Away qualifiers and gold cup they've allowed a lot of goals and USA attack is better than it was 10 years ago. Defensively they are of very little talent with 3 local league guys, a bad MLS defender, a guy that plays on a 2nd division club in Mexico, and a pair playing in Norway. Midfield they have talent with Ruiz (Fulham), Bolanos (fcK), Borges (AIK), and some local CR guys and up front are really talented with Saborio (one of best strikers in MLS), Arrieta (also one of best strikers in MLS), and Campbell (20 matches for Betis in La Liga). Their goalies are a joke level (one from local league and a backup on Levante) and will be worked really hard on Friday night.

Klinsmann has no choice but to attack and expose this brand new defense which should be playing in Gold Cup not World Cup. Guzan is a quality keeper but he doesn't command the net and that is a bad combo with an inexperienced defense. Think USA wins this one 3-1 or 3-2

USA/Costa Rica over 2.5 risk 2.25u to win 2u

great read, thanks. I would like your thoughts on the Croatia v. Serbia match...more than soccer for sure. I like Croatia in the match, feel they have a more seasoned squad and the obvious home field advantage...away fans don't travel, if I recall. Anyway, best of luck this week.

that's the match I'm looking forward to the most this week. I read a lot about the Balkans region and this is the first meeting of Serbia/Croatia since Yugoslavia disbanded. Correct that both sides agreed that they will not allow opposing fans. As far as the teams Croatia are a veteran group, Serbia are very young. Too bad Vidic quit international football as they'd have a hell of a defense with him, Ivanovic, Subotic, and Kolarov (united, chelsea, dortmund, city) but they are really poor in attacking talent. Croatia's home record in qualifiers is awesome...only England has beaten them there since they broke away from Yugoslavia (14-5-1 overall....14-2-1 last 17). Personally I'm a fan of Serbian team but I think Croatia will press the hell out of them and win the match. Serbia probably too young to deal well with this atmosphere

thank you for the reply tide. It seems like you and I have the same thoughts on that match, I will place a sizeable wager (for me) on Croatia. Best of luck this week.

Dortmund II vs Erfurt
- bottom of table clash. Dortmund do not want to see their 2nd squad relegate to regionaliga so have sent a few players down to play today...the few that aren't on Intl duty. Dort II added some talent during winter break and in 2013 have lost just once in 5 and just beat the team in 6th place. Erfurt just 8 points in 12 road games. Dort II has won 11/17 midweek matches in the past 2.5 years and 13/20 matches against defensively poor away teams in the past 2.5 seasons.

Dortmund II .4u to win .5u

Part of me is wondering if Klinsman isn't planning on moving Edu to CB to partner with Gonzo, and then starting Cameron as one of the fullbacks. Whichever lineup he puts out for the back line, it won't inspire a lot of confidence.

highly doubt he goes with Edu. he's already experimented with it and it was a disaster. Since Goodson and Gonzalez are the only two natural centerbacks that's my guess at the starting pair then have cameron at right back and who the F knows at left back. then again, i have no idea wtf this cvnt is doing right now and just hope we win friday before the azteca nightmare...after that i'll be surprised if he's still the coach

bad news for the over is that Saborio got injured in practice today and is doubtful in attack for CR....

Croatia -0.75 1u to win 1.08u

-most of reasoning above. Serbian back line is strong but without Vidic they are not the same as before he quit. Croatia 19-7-0 in European Championships at home, 14-5-1 in home WC qualifying for a combined 33-12-1 record. They've scored in all 20 WC qualifiers and have posted 8 clean sheets in last 10, 11 clean in last 14. Solid 1-0 or 2-0 winner

line move toward Serbia so will add a half unit. Serbs can't sit back for draw today and no chance of 0-0 in Croatia...

small parlay

Norway/Colombia .5u to win .41u

- Albania all-time are 1-5-37 away in WC qualifiers, Bolivia 0-4-27 L31 away in qualifiers. not a bad trend to double up with away teams 1-9-64 (12 points in 74 games)

adding:

Uruguay 2h .5u to win .5u
- better team in 1h and paraguay are making crazy tackles. i see 10 men coming soon

Venezuela +2.5 .5u to win .4u
- higuain/messi/aguero a terrifying trio but i think venez can hold them for 2-0

USA 1u to win .66u
- back line is brutal but so is Costa Rica's and we have some crazy in-form strikers in a must win match

going low odds double in African WCQ...

Tunisia a beast at home at 13-3-1 in qualifiers while Sierra Leone have not won a single away qualifier away...in fact they've never won a match not played at home in at least 13 years. Not much to say about Ivory Coast...this is best African team vs worst african team and a 3+ win is expected. Only once has a team scored on Ivory Coast away in a qualifier in last 12 and IC is 7-0-0 23/0 here in last 5 years. Gambia perhaps youngest national team in world....2 mls guys (nyassi on montreal and mansally on rsl) but don't stand much of a prayer in Ivory Coast

Tunisia/Ivory Coast double 1.5u to win .8u

+0.66 USA

of course usa match should have never been played or at least called off at HT but home cooking for sure with that early 1-0 lead. embarrassment for the sport and region to play on 3" of standing snow with a light yellow ball and white uniforms but really glad they won

pending...

Tunisia/Ivory Coast double 1.5u to win .8u
Houston/Vancouver under 2.5 2.5u to win 1.85u
Seattle +1/2 2.5u to win 1.95u

likely more to come in MLS

11am Eng Conference

Lincoln .56u to win .5u
- Telford could be really deflated as they just set the infamous record of 27 matches without a win and are a shoo-in to relegate. Lincoln should win this one but weather is pretty poor so minimal bet....
