this is a good question experts? How do you figure out if that is the same value or better than the + 1/2 wager?

Because you could shop hard (even try the exchanges) for the best draw value and the best three way line and get close.

What is the math on that?

Schalke +0.5 -104
Win +251
Draw +253

$100 on Schalke +0.5 earns you $ 96, so if they win you get back $ 196.

To get back $ 196 on the win and draw options :
Put $ 55.84 on the win @ +251 ( 196/3.51)
And $ 55.52 on the draw @ +253 ( 196/3.53 )
Total $ 111.36 to get back $ 196.

Backing Schalke +0.5 is the marginally better option as you only lay out £100.
