Just curious since the standard line to them is you have to do this because you could be a carrier (regardless of the fact that their chances of dying of this are about the same as winning the state lottery). What would you say to them as an older person with wealth if they had a chance to work to take care of their basic necessities (groceries, paying rent, etc.) but could potentially become "that carrier". At some point this social welfare will end.

what is the ww2 gen gonna do for...the millennials..lol

So your answer is nothing. What incentive do they have to go along with this then? I understand for some, their answer is martial law. But at some point, you can only lock up so many people. Not to mention, if they get thrown out of their dwelling, they're on the street anyway and probably aren't going to care about this 6 foot rule.

I see more older people out and about. My dad being one.
I actually do also. I posed this question to a few of my friends that were very preachy about what people "must do". They kept dancing around the question, but simply wouldn't answer it.

Maybe they will say what more do you want us to give you?

We gave you globalization, mass migration, 5k psych 101 classes, massive entitlement state, 25-40T in national debt, state budgets constrained by bloated pensions, 0% interest rates, infinite money printing, etc

Just a hell of a run anyway you look at it. "

We gave you the gift of big government like a nation has never seen, people keep us alive?"

umm, they are pretty much dead

Lol. Yeah, I was trying to figure out what the heck these guys were talking about. About the only war the older generation I'm talking about would have served in is Vietnam, and that didn't exactly give anyone any freedom.

[FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Calibri,Geneva,sans-serif]I'm an old fart who served in Nam. What do I owe younger people? Not a fucking thing.
And the opposite is also true, younger people owe me nothing.

WW2 was legit. Korea and Nam were not. You say I didn't exactly give anyone any freedom.
You are absolutely correct but who's fault is that? Certainly not the swinging dicks who
were forced to fight.

I can say this unequivocally, with a few exceptions no one wanted to go. Sure there were
a few misguided brainwashed gung-ho idiots who thought they were saviors but the majority
saw it for what is was, a huge cluster fuck.

Back to the topic. I go out. To the store for food et al. The majority of people aren't
wearing masks. They don't go out of their way to stay 6 feet apart. They go about their
business as usual.

I'm of the opinion that we have overreacted. Are people getting sick and dying? Absolutely.
But that happens every year. Influenza kills people. Just as many people die from the
common flu every year as will from COVID-19. Now that we have found the Hydroxychloroquine
is an effective treatment the numbers are going the drop dramatically.

We live in a complex world. Shit happens.

I'd say were 100% in agreement here Dave. My issue is more with some of the people I deal with that get preachy and demanding and keep saying how everyone "must do this" and "must do that". They're usually the ones who are the most well off who show absolutely no empathy towards others and could give a shit if someone couldn't put food on their table or pay rent because of their demands. Personally, I'm wondering when the civil unrest starts. A lady I know said a fight practically broke out today at Target over toilet paper. After that, the sheriff closed down the track I was training someone at (luckily we were at the end of the workout). No one was within 15 feet of each other. He said there were 11 people and it can't be more than 10 (lord forbid the prick use some common sense and look at the intent of the law). I was heartened hearing the chief of police say they would not be issuing any citations for violations of social distancing. Nice to see they're not turning into the Gestapo in California.

The numbers aren't going to start dropping dramatically because of hydroxychloroquine. It doesn't fall from the sky.

But anyway, that is why we numb the masses with iphones, social media and every other screen based distraction you can think of. Say what you want about the ruling class/media, but they do a pretty good of getting people to bicker about stuff that doesn't matter much rather than focus on real issues. I doubt most people even begin to come close to making the generational sacrifice connection that you just did.

Not saying more civil unrest can't happen, but that has basically been replaced with we'll call it "acting like an idiot on the internet", for lack of better phrase.

If it was me, I'd have become a professional student or a Canadian back then , if old enough to be drafted.

If everybody did that, you couldn't get a decent war off the ground !

The last war the USA had any reason to be in was WW2, but they like to field test their newer weapons every decade or so, kinda like the pointless census.

[FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Calibri,Geneva,sans-serif]Back then I didn't understand the concept of a good education and I didn't even consider Canada.

I was young and stupid. Now 50 years later I'm old and still stupid but a lot more wiser.

If Nam taught me 1 thing it was how to survive and for that I am grateful.
