They collectively play the best defense in the country.

But the SEC doesn't hold the team that IS the best defensive team in the country.

agreed, and next year we will see the true best conferences at it for the NC

USC lost to Oregon State and barely escaped @Arizona..its not the greatest resume for playing in the national title. Am I supposed to think they are the greatest team ever for beating Penn State by two touchdowns in the Rose Bowl in an essential home game.

The bottomline is DEFENSE is what win you championships...

I would love to see USC play Florida in the plus 1 system...

I think vegas will make the line a pick'em... thoughts???

No argument there. They're the undisputed champs. Best D though? No.

Sadly i really think the AP will go FLA, Utah then USC. SC vs Utah? No question SC toys with em from kickoff to 0:00. But in the end they went undefeated so the 2nd place nod HAS to go to them.

LOL

You been paying attention lately homeslice? Stoops has fallen flat on his face time after time the last few years. When has Pete Carroll got outcoached? When Vince Young had the best performance ever by a college football player? He never has been in a big game when he has a month to prepare for. Simple as that.

umm...when has urban meyer ever been outcoached? Quite simply, you have two teams that are clearly the best teams in college football, but UF has 2 of the last 3 NC's because they play in a conference that is competitive and gains them respect week in and week out. What does USC do all year?

anyway, the most talented kids in the west go to USC and the most talented kids in the east go to UF, and both have great coaches and schemes. and a few in the middle go to OU/texas...but the REAL east/west matchup hasn't happened yet, so all we can do is speculate and talk smack..but anyone that thinks FL couldn't hang with USC is incredibly naieve..the coaching and schools are comprable, as is the recruiting base..these have definitely been the best two teams in the land for quite a while now...we should freaking play already!!

You obviously didn't watch the game. Otherwise you'd know better than to think the above.

From what I hear is the big 10 was overrated, so you want praise for USC beating an overrated team in an overrated conference?

(1) Pre kickoff, No one was saying Penn St was overrated. (2) I'm talking about anyone who says the Penn St/USC was close either didn't see the game or just doesn't know football all together.

oh hell no, USC was beating the breaks off them easily first half, not sure what happened second half, but the game was further than the game indicated

SC coulda scored on EVERY posession in the 2H. Anyone who saw the game knew that. They clearly took their foot off the pedal and went to the ground. Everyone knows had they continued through the air they woulda put up anothe 31 pts.

Besides, Penn St scored the final TD against SC's 2nd stringers.

Let's see, Oklahoma came in touted as the #1 offense of all-time. They scored more points than anyone, EVER. They averaged 55 ppg, and we held them to 14. Penn St. was a ho-hum solid football team that scored 24 on USC. I guess that makes it obvious that SC's D was the best.

Don't base PSU's point total on the Final score. That game was over at Halftime.

If the game were 14-7 at the Half, PSu would have been lucky to score 7 more.

It is similar to why when Duke or UNC play someone in hoops and they are up by 25 at the break and they don't win by 50. If you have ever played sports, you know the intensity level diminishes when an outcome is already determined.

thats cause your game was in doubt for 3 quarters. It was a different competitive atmosphere. USC was already celebrating 3rd.

Honestly, I'm not even going to bother arguing. USC D is awesome and USC has a nice Rose Bowl victory. Congrats.

3 quarters, it was in doubt until Florida held OU and scored 7 with 3 minutes to go.

Carroll would outcoach Meyer all day everyday. That would be the difference, along with a suffocating USC defense.
