As much as I like UCF in this matchup, the profit margin is even higher with the Over. The Mustangs rank No. 18 overall in offense according to the SP+ charts at ESPN, but only No. 78 on defense. Even though the Knights have the opposite split at 59/27, that’s not nearly as much of an imbalance as what you’re getting with SMU, who won last year’s matchup 55-28 (Over 62).
It’s a bit disconcerting that each team in this contest has the Under at 3-1, but the SMU offense is just starting to gain traction for new head coach Rhett Lashlee. Their 42-34 loss to TCU (Over 72) in Week 4 may be a sign of what’s to come this Wednesday.
