I remember the good old days.

If there was an emergency the parent called the front office and then they had to comb the non computerized logs (basically an index card box) to track you down by period and teacher....lol

Then they intercomed that room and when they couldnt find you or the info was off they sent out a school wide APB
on ALL the intercoms......."Attn Maga please report to the principals office"

Reminds me of our cubby holes back in grade school where we put all of our accessories......the rogue kids would steal shit so one had to come up with anti theft strategies like blocking the access with your jacket during the winter....of course Ricky Williams just stole my jacket....lol

Yes, it's time to learn and it's time to show some respect

Fuck the constant use of cell phones

Allowed but not used except in an emergency. Confiscated and returned at end of day for any other reason.

An emergency…. 1st thought that comes to mind is a shooter… Hot button/topic
What emergency would a kid in school hear about where they would need to use their phone? Give an example.

That’s a very very very rare occurrence to just allow every kid to have access to their phones during school hours. Sorry but poor example. I’m sure the vast majority of people here went thru school during the non cellphone era and we all did fine. You will never win this argument here.

I walked to school about 2/3 miles 5 days a week now our kids are driving their kids to school a block away? Don’t forget to vote in 131 days the only time our vote counts… so they say….

I like that my kids have their phones on them. Makes life easier if i need to tell/ask them something and vice versa.

I also like talking to them during emergency situations to make sure they are ok (code red, bomb threat, etc)

Teachers will also sent out group texts throughout the day as well.

I have no problems with kids gathering together on their phone to look at something or if everyone is playing a game on their phone together. So socially, its ok.

However i have a problem with kids using social media in schools. Tik Tok and Instagram are making kids crazy. Plus i dont want to see a kid on their phone for a long time by themselves. Its IMPORTANT for them to socialize and many are lacking social skills these days

Yep social media is a bigger issue than the actual phone IMO

Phones are very nice if used appropriately

But we are talking about teenagers here. What are the odds even 25% will use them appropriately while in school?

I don’t see a problem with students having phones at school but just not during class. That should be a complete 100% no no. I assume that’s the main issue here. Outside of class during lunchtimes or study halls(if those still exist) I don’t see it being a problem.
