The schools sell jerseys, tickets, food at games, etc etc. but they all say they are not making money. Where is all the money going? TV deals for broadcasting the games, etc.

I don't know the answer to this but hopefully towards education and improving the school. Off topic, but the state of Florida has decided that we need new signs to welcome visitors to our state. The estimated cost is $150mm. WTF costs $150mm to put up some signs. I would built them from hand with a hammer, nails, and a ladder for a 1/10 of the cost.

in college basketball these babies now steal off the major colleges as they take the 1 or 2 yrs for free to make their millions in the nba, they need to pay back the college for the 1 yr they go when they get the millions, imo they are stealing from the colleges

I am leaning more on the side of no pay for college athletes, but you do need money to survive, even in college. But if there was player pay it would need to some strict rules set. Its not like these guys need to be rich, but enough pay to get by

Heard a few interesting ideas:

1. If a College Athlete is to be paid, then that athlete does not receive a scholarship. Must use money paid by the school for players education: classes, books, dorms, etc... of course pay would need to exceed tuition costs for this to be worth it for them

2. Pay could be generated from a portion of what the team brings in. Minus the cost of uniforms, travel expenses, equipment, split with coach, trainers, team facilities, etc

3. Players could receive scholarships and pay (based on option #2) BUT would be required to sign a contract saying College would receive a % of rookie contract, should they go pro. This option is the college sort of investing in players.

If there was player pay, there would need to be a cap on it. Limitations or maximum a college player can earn. Either across the board or by school division

No chance in hell a the schools are going to pay these guys a few million a year....and you think guys like Clowney are going to stay for 50k a year? Give me a break. Forget this whole thing of paying these guys. And the ones who say they're there to get an education...most of these guys aren't going to school anyhow.

Interesting points. When we start really fucking with levels of pay and caps we are just becoming a farm system of professional athletes....BUT what if a school's player pay cap was inversely related to the previous year record.

I.e. Alabama wins every year, so now they can't pay much while Vanderbilt has lost so much they can offer the most money

I was thinking the exact same thing. Which makes sense to give these guys a min wage type of income (if any) They dont need a big pay day. That is what the NFL is for
