1) On the whole, airport screeners are more Clouseau than Holmes. In fact they don't even have Clouseau's charm. You aren't being protected from anything by those Keystone Kops.

2) No terrorist with the intelligence and skill to successfully pull off an attack is going to be stupid and unoriginal enough to place weapons or bombs in plain sight in a piece of luggage. The notion that hand-screening carryon bags is going to stop a single terrorist attack is ludicrous.

If you honestly believe that federal baggage screeners are making you or your family even 1% safer when traveling by air than they were before 9-11, you are being naive, plain and simple.

A Nazi will be fervent, even overzealous in the performance of his duties - and that's just what I want in an airport screener. If some idiot wants to antagonize the screener(s), then good luck to him (or her).
With the knowledge that anything can be done to anyone at any time by someone with the funding, the knowledge, and the necessary resources; I'll leave it up to other Federal agencies to find and keep track of such goings on.
Meanwhile the screeners can keep an eye out for everyone else.
If some kid is dumb enough top mess around in an airport, then he deserves what he gets.

I understand your point, but bear in mind this kid is being charged with a crime the maximum punishment for which is 20 years in prison and $ 50,000.00 in fines.

I once took a piss on a Gwinnett County sheriff's driver seat knowing full well what the result of such an action would be ... got my ass beaten and arrested and fined $ 2,500.00 for "destruction, damage or defacing government property." It was worth every nickel for the fact that the officer in question actually got in the car and drove it for about 150 yards or so before he realised what had happened. Also, that he set himself up for it in a big way (long story, maybe later.)

This kid wrote a note that was probably not even meant in a serious way ("Dude, wouldn't it be cool if you like put a note in there for some fukcin' bag checker to find?") and he's being charged with making terrorist threats. And although the case will no doubt be dropped or dismissed, I almost guarantee you it will only be after the kid gets pressured into making an apology for his "bad deed." No win situation for him, just like virtually any criminal charge with the word "terrorist" in it. Terrorism is the new drug trafficking, and quite frankly I imagine that the War on Terror is going to be every bit the stunningly effective, cost-efficient, short-and-sweet affair that the War on Drugs has been.

.. I didn't know wtf to do, so in classic Lander fashion I said "What are you going to do? Shoot me?" I mumbled "****ing psycho" and kept walking ... some other Army guy stepped in between and told the guy to relax and the NYPD looked at me dumbfounded - one of them just shrugged like a "holy crap .. sorry dude" kind of shrug.

I don't feel safer with these psychos in camoflauge .. they're anti-social & don't belong near civilians. Put a thousand NYPD there - I'm all for that .. but these Army idiots are only making it worse.

Something like that shouldn't happpen to anyone - even a gutter level liberal like you! And while you were holding your child - that's unforgivable!. I'd have tried to follow through with the local military authorities - that's why thay have the JAGs, for crap like that.
Morons come in all sizes and shapes - and uniforms! That's why I like the idea of the civilian screeners - you have recourse for the extreme morons.

I really, really don't see the point of having them soldiers in there ... just beef up the NYPD - they are MORE than capable plus they (most of them) have decent people skills.
