settle an arguement: How long has the NFL had the extra week between CC and the SB?

I want to say the extra week between the Conference Championship and the SuperBowl came about 6 years ago but I cant find where to confirm this. Thanks.:think2:

if you go to

you can play around with all of the dates from 1970 on. it looks like a lot of years had only one week, the last one with one was after the 2001 season and they had to push it into february after the 9/11 attacks.
