LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The brother of Louisville scoring leader Francisco Garcia was fatally shot in New York.

Hector Lopez, 19, died Monday night, according to New York authorities.

Garcia was to leave for New York on Thursday but planned to return for the No. 25 Cardinals' game Saturday against top-ranked Florida, the school said.

Police responded to a call of a shooting in an apartment building in the Bronx on Monday night. Officers discovered a man unconscious with gunshot wounds to his chest and neck, police said. Police have made no arrests.

Garcia, a 6-foot-7 sophomore, is averaging 17.3 points. He matched his career high Sunday with 24 points against Holy Cross.

"We will make every effort to help him through this grieving process day by day," Louisville coach Rick Pitino said.
