This analysis is short but sweet, if you believe like I do in my MLB charts and trends, which are a small part of the variables that go into my daily baseball selctions.
First and foremost, Sanchez offers up positive trends, strong one's for that matter, as he is coming off his shortest start, lasting only four innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits in Toronto's victory over the Cleveland Indians.. this back on August 20th. It was his second straight start where he scuffled, to a degree, but did so with solid underlying peripherals.
Sanchez last faced Baltimore in mid-June, where he found victory over the Orioles comes back from a short stint on the farm as the team wants to limit his innings heading into the October postseason.. yes the Jays believe, as I do, that they will have a spot in the October schedule. The Jays skiped his a start and send the right-hander to Class A Dunedin two Sunday's ago.
Sanchez is 12-2 with a 2.99 earned-run average, fifth-best in the AL. He has made 24 starts and thrown a career-high 156 1/3 innings. The right-hander has struck out 132 and opponents are batting .230 against him.
Sanchez is a perfect fit against the O's lineup that has, for the most part, upper cut and home run swingers and hitters, as he produces 60% ground balls.... Bround ball pitchers typically have the highest BABIP, but he’s been able to limit battes to a .278 BABIP. Sanchez is unquestionably the better mound option tonight considering the O's starter, Gallardo, would be a number-five option for most playoff teams.
Gallardo is--- once again -- coming off poor start, this time against a team that can't hit with runners in scoring position, the New York Yankees, The O'srighty allowed eight runs and in his last turn against the Jays he allowed five runs on five hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings.
