•Cubs RH Jason Hammel (6-3, 2.53 ERA, WHIP: 0.881) - Hammel can match last season's win total with a victory, and if he continues pitching the way he has over his last two starts, that seems likely. The 31-year-old has tossed seven scoreless frames in each of his last two outings, racking up 16 strikeouts while allowing 10 hits and one walk. Hammel is 4-1 with a 3.67 ERA in six games (five starts) versus Pittsburgh.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed pitching at PNC Park, going 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA in six games (five starts) at home. He has yet to face the Cubs and any of their current players.

•Padres RH Tyson Ross (6-5, 3.22 ERA, WHIP: 1.296) - Ross allowed six runs and added an error to contribute to his troubles in a 6-0 loss to Washington on Friday. The 27-year-old has struggled with his control, issuing 14 walks in his last five outings and 32 on the season. Ross was blasted in his lone career start versus Philadelphia, yielding six runs on five hits in two-thirds of an inning.

The 30-year-old San Diego native has dominated the Padres in 14 career starts, limiting the club to a .193 batting average while registering an 0.91 WHIP. Hamels has yielded just 11 runs in his last six starts while permitting just four homers this season.

•Brewers RH Wily Peralta (5-5, 3.03 ERA, WHIP: 1.265) - Peralta yielded four runs and five hits in five innings of Milwaukee's 8-5 victory at Minnesota on Thursday. "The hitters picked me up and I appreciate that," the 25-year-old Dominican Republic native told reporters. "And I had a lot of great defense behind me, too.... I need to work ahead in the count. I've been working behind hitters. That's why my pitch count has been so high early." Peralta, who was 0-4 with a 3.64 ERA in his previous five starts while receiving a total of seven runs of support, defeated the Mets in his only appearance against them 3-0 in 2012 after yielding two hits in eight innings in his fourth major-league appearance.

"It wasn’t his best outing by any means, but certainly it was fine,” Collins told reporters of the 25-year-old Florida native. DeGrom, who struck out 11 in his previous start, has 28 in 31 innings while sporting a 1.16 WHIP and .194 batting average against.

•Dodgers LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-2, 3.08 ERA, WHIP: 1.259) - Ryu is 5-0 in six road starts with a 0.95 ERA, the lowest among starting pitchers in the majors, while holding opponents to a minuscule .531 OPS. He allowed two runs in six innings in a 7-2 win at Colorado on Friday to win his fourth straight start overall. One of those four consecutive wins came after 7 1/3 solid innings against the Reds at home May 26, when Ryu improved to 2-0 with a 2.51 ERA in his career versus Cincinnati.

•Braves RH Julio Teheran (6-3, 1.89 ERA, WHIP: 0.927) - If any pitcher can stop Colorado and tame Coors Field, it’s Teheran, who leads the majors in ERA and is riding a four-start winning streak. The Colombia native surrendered more than two earned runs in just two of his 13 turns, including six scoreless innings at home against Colorado on May 25. Teheran is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21 total innings against the Rockies in his career.

The 23-year-old traveled an injury-plagued path to the majors since being drafted No. 11 overall in 2009. Matzek got his first taste of Triple-A in 12 starts for Colorado Springs this season and went 5-4 with a 4.05 ERA.

•Nationals RH Tanner Roark (4-4, 2.91 ERA, WHIP: 1.047) - Roark blanked San Diego for the second time this season last Friday, when he allowed three hits over eight shutout innings while striking out a career-high 11 batters. “He’s been pitching like that for us all year,” manager Matt Williams told reporters. “He just continues to pound the zone, all of his pitches. Pretty impressive.” Roark, who has a 4.42 ERA in six road starts this season, tossed two scoreless innings in relief against the Giants last Aug. 13.
•Giants RH Matt Cain (1-3, 3.52 ERA, WHIP: 1.137) - Cain returned from his second stint on the disabled list this season with a strong outing last Thursday, when he held the Mets to two runs on three hits over seven frames. Ian Desmond is 5-for-12 with a home run against the three-time All-Star, who is 5-4 with a 3.12 ERA in 13 career starts against Washington. Cain owns a 2.91 ERA in three home starts this season compared to a 3.94 ERA in six outings away from AT&T Park.
