3* Nevada Wolfpack +14.5
I sure don't agree with Lou Holtz that the Irish will play for the BCS championship. They do have a weak schedule, but they better not be overlooking the Wolfpack. Nevada will treat this like a bowl game and they have a bye in week two so they will be focused for the Irish. The Nevada defense is questionable and the Irish will score, but the Wolfpack offense can control the ball and the tempo of this game. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick was the WAC offensive player of the year who led this Nevada offense to 37 points per game last season. I expect Nevada to run the ball and keep the Irish off balance with the Pistol formation. I think this will be a struggle for Notre Dame and they are only 1-8 against the spread the last nine times they have been favored at home by 10.5 or more. Take the points.
3* Auburn Tigers -13.5
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs don't fare well when they play the big boys on the road and I don’t see that changing here. LA Tech is just 3-16 as a double digit road dog since 2004 and they are facing a retooled Auburn offensive attack. The Tigers almost always have a great defense, but they have looked to fix their pedestrian offense this year with the hiring of new offensive coordinator Gux Malzahn from Tulsa. Malzahn has talent to work with on the offensive side of the ball and that talent should do some damage here. Expect another strong effort from the Tigers defense as well. LA Tech is just 1-6 against the SEC. Lay the points.
3* Texas A&M Aggies -15
The Aggies will be looking to build some confidence after last season's 4-8 campaign and they have a good opponent to do so against. New Mexico only has nine returning starters and a new head coach that is changing schemes on both sides of the ball. Needless to say it’s going to take the Lobos some time to digest all of these changes. In the second year of the Mike Sherman era the Aggies have added some much needed speed to the defense and the running back position. I expect a big confidence boosting win by the Aggies who have a bye next week. Lay the points.
