Well if you would have told me that the Twins were gonna score 3 runs last night in St Louis we would have told you we knew that already. The key stat that made this play was Perkins going into last nights matchup had been a complete gas can on the road yielding over a 10.80ERA in 7 starts. Wainwright on the other hand we figured for giving up the 2 runs that he did, as he had posted a 2.88 ERA at home this season in 6 starts. We got what we thought we would get out of Wainwright, which was a solid performance but the St Louis bats just didnt show up and we suffer our first loss of the week.
Lets pick ourselves right back up with another nice matchup. Lets go out to Chicago in another nice numbers matchup. This Cross Town Classic is usually a series where you throw all of the numbers out of the window, however, I dont think that is the case today. Mark Buerhle takes the mound at US Cellular field where he is an impressive 4-1 with a 2.68 ERA on the year. His counterpart, Ryan Dempster, is 1-4 on the road this season and took the loss earlier in the month against the White Sox in Wrigley Field as Dempster walked 6 batters and the White Sox took a 4-1 victory. I see more of the same today out of Dempster. White Sox batters combined are hitting over .333 against Ryan Dempster lifetime and on the flipside, Cubs hitters are hitting near the Mendoza line (.200) against Buehrle. Milton Bradley (if he plays) and Derrick Lee are the only hitters with any success long term against Buehrle, so lets keep an eye on those at bats today. Another note here, the Cubs backend of the bullpen has been used hard as of late and expect that to play a big role here today. Lets take the White Sox here with a mid range play, in a what should be a low scoring affair. Small lean on the under 8.5
