#901 CHICAGO CUBS @ #902 CINCINNATI - 7:10
•Cubs RH Jeff Samardzija (0-2, 1.53 ERA, WHIP: 1.104) - Samardzija's luck has been far worse than tough -- he has gone at least seven innings and allowed two or fewer earned runs in all five of his starts but still doesn't have a win. He went 7 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits last time out against Arizona, but the Cubs blew a three-run lead in the ninth to cost him the win. Samardzija is 1-4 with a 4.52 ERA in 22 games (eight starts) against the Reds.
--KEY STAT: SAMARDZIJA is 7-19 (-12.2 Units) against the money line versus an National League team with an on base percentage .325 or worse over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record)
The average score was SAMARDZIJA 3.3, OPPONENT 5.0.
--SAMARDZIJA is 12-1 against the run line (+11.4 Units) when playing on Monday over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record)
The average score was SAMARDZIJA 3.7, OPPONENT 1.6.
•Reds RH Alfredo Simon (3-1, 1.30 ERA, WHIP: 0.940) - Simon was in the news for the wrong reasons this week when a woman who alleges Simon raped her filed a civil suit against him. That cloud darkens a great start to the season for the 32-year-old Dominican, who has recorded quality starts in each of his four outings and won the last two. Simon has made only one start against the Cubs -- a six-inning stint in a win April 18 --but is 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA in 11 career appearances against them.
#903 MILWAUKEE @ #904 ST LOUIS - 8:15 PM
•Brewers RH Yovani Gallardo (2-0, 1.42 ERA, WHIP: 1.074) - Gallardo has worked at least six innings and allowed two runs or fewer in all five of his starts, including Tuesday's eventual 2-1 loss to San Diego in which he gave up one run and five hits over seven frames. Gallardo is holding opponents to a .219 batting average and has given up only one home run in 31 2/3 innings. His career against the Cardinals has been one long nightmare, however, with a 1-11 record and a 6.46 ERA in 17 starts.
--KEY STAT: GALLARDO is 31-15 (+14.1 Units) against the money line versus an National League team with a team batting average of .255 or worse over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record)
The average score was GALLARDO 4.8, OPPONENT 3.6.
•Cardinals RH Michael Wacha (2-2, 2.10 ERA, WHIP: 1.033) - Wacha had a 1.73 ERA heading into his last start, when he lasted only four innings against the Mets, giving up two runs and three hits with 10 strikeouts but also five walks, including two with the bases loaded. Prior to that, Wacha had walked a total of three batters in his first four starts, including three outings in which he gave up one earned run or less. Wacha appeared in one game against Milwaukee last season, yielding three runs in one inning of relief in a game where he actually got the win.
#905 COLORADO @ #906 ARIZONA - 9:40
•Rockies LH Franklin Morales (2-1, 3.86 ERA, WHIP: 1.362) - Morales has been sharp in each of his last two turns, allowing a total of two earned runs on nine hits in 13 innings while striking out 12. The converted reliever struck out a season-high seven in a win over San Francisco on Tuesday and is making a case to remain in the rotation when Jhoulys Chacin returns from the disabled list. Morales missed Arizona the first time around and does not have much experience against its lineup.
--KEY STAT: MORALES is 15-2 OVER (+13.1 Units) when the total is 8.5 to 10 since 1997. (Team's Record)
The average score was MORALES 6.8, OPPONENT 5.8.
--MORALES is 9-0 against the run line (+9.9 Units) versus teams averaging 2.75 or less extra base hits per game since 1997. (Team's Record)
The average score was MORALES 5.2, OPPONENT 2.6.
•Diamondbacks LH Wade Miley (2-2, 4.50 ERA, WHIP: 1.278) - Miley looked to be turning a corner with a strong start at Los Angeles on April 18 but lasted only five innings at Chicago on Wednesday, surrendering five runs - three earned - on four hits and three walks. The 27-year-old has issued a total of 11 walks in 16 innings over his last three turns. Miley enjoyed his longest outing of the season at Colorado on April 6, allowing two runs in eight innings to pick up the win.
#907 SAN DIEGO @ #908 SAN FRANCISCO - 10:15 PM
•Padres RH Tyson Ross (2-3, 3.16 ERA, WHIP: 1.341) - Ross was outstanding against the Giants on April 18, when he blanked them on four hits over eight innings. He wasn’t so sharp in his last outing as the Milwaukee Brewers torched him for five runs and nine hits – including two homers – in six frames. Ross is 1-2 with a 3.21 ERA in six career appearances (four starts) against the Giants.
--KEY STAT: ROSS is 4-13 against the run line (-13.6 Units) in night games over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record)
