Brady Kannon | MLB Money Line

dime bet – 906 PHI (-105) vs 905 CIN
Analysis: Here is a case where at first glance one starter looks to be largely better than the other but it is not exactly the truth and the oddsmaker knows this as evidenced by the line. Kyle Kendrick is 0-and-3 on the year but has really been the victim of some hard luck despite pitching quite solidly. His SO/W ratio in fact, is better than his counterpart’s, Alfredo Simon. Simon has been good and has been a real blessing for The Reds while they wait for the return of Mat Latos but I am still not all sold on Simon as he was exposed in his last outing, getting pounded by The Colorado Rockies. We’ll see how he rebounds tonight but I think Kendrick has plenty of ability to keep this one close and let the home team go to work on Simon. Philly has dropped 3-straight but I like this spot in a series opener. It does not hurt that Joey Votto did not make the trip to Philly with the club either as it looks like he is unfortunately headed for the disabled list. Honestly, I wish all of these injured stars the best. I hate to see the Tommy John surgeries going on and such. The game needs its stars and I quite enjoy watching them. In the meantime, Go Fightin’ Phils!

Larry Ness' 10* Division G.O.M. (13-3 MLB 10*s L13 days!)
My 10* Division Game of the Month (NL West) is on the LA Dodgers at 9:40 ET.

Greinke has sure justified the Dodgers signing him away from the Angels prior to the 2013 season, as he went 15-4 with a 2.63 last year, ending the regular season as MLB’s top money earner among starters (22-6 / plus-$1,498). Greinke won the AL Cy Young award with KC back in 2009 but likely became more well-known by going 16-6 with Milwaukee in 2011 and then 15-5 in 2012 (9-3 with the Brewers and then 6-2 with the Angels). Greinke struggled at first with the Angels, but then went 5-0 with a 2.04 ERA in his final eight starts. Greinke's "claim to fame" in 2011 and 2012 was that he was nearly unbeatable pitching at home for the Brewers.

Milwaukee was a remarkable 24-1 in his 25 home starts at Miller Park (includes postseason), during his 1 1/2 seasons with the Brewers. The Angels were just 4-3 in his home starts after he arrived in Anaheim in late July but that still made his teams a MONEY-MAKING 28-4 in his 32 home starts over he 2011 and 2012 seasons. His home dominance continued with the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine, as the Dodgers went 12-2 in his home starts during the regular season, with Greinke posting a 2.11 ERA. He then won his lone home start in the 2013 postseason over the Cards.

Greinke is 3-0 at home this year (team is 3-1 in his starts). Doing the math, that makes him a quite remarkable 44-7 in home starts (a win rate of 86%!) since the beginning of the 2011 season. OK, he's NOT at home here but how about this factoid? Greinke's surrendering fewer than three runs in 20 straight start, beginning back on July 25, 2013 and that represents the longest stretch by any pitcher since the "dead ball" era! Overall in 2014, he's 6-1 (team is 6-2 in his starts), posting a 2.38 ERA with a 55-10 KW ratio.

He gets the start tonight, as the Dodgers open a three-game series at Chase Field.against the D'backs. Home has NOT been where the heart is for Arizona in 2014. The D'backs are a solid 12-10 (plus-$399) on the road this season but a woeful 4-17 at home (minus-$1,510), which is an 81% "go-against." That's good enough alone to play against the D-backs here but there is SO MUCH more!

Greinke is 3-0 with a 1.72 ERA in five starts against the D'backs while holding them to a .188 average since signing with the Dodgers prior to last season. LA has won 14 of 18 over Arizona in that span, including SEVEN of eight this year, as the starting rotation has gone 6-0 with a 1.50 ERA. The Dodgers have outscored Arizona 46-28 in 2014, an average of 5.75-to-3.50 RPG. That's right in line with the entire home 2014 season for Arizona, as the D'backs have been outscored in their 4-17 start at home, 5.57-to-3.48 RPG!

Throw in the fact that Arizona's starter tonight (Wade Miley), is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in five road starts (team is 4-1) but 1-3 with a 7.43 ERA in four home starts in 2014 and what's NOT to like about Greinke and the Dodgers over Miley and the D'backs?
