Boise State Broncos at San Jose Spartans
Last week the Broncos beat Hawaii 27-17 while the Spartans beat New Mexico State 31-14. Even though the Spartans are unranked and have a couple of losses, first place in the WAC is up for grabs in this game as both teams are undefeated in the conference. The Broncos are led by QB Kellen Moore (1591 yds 13 TD 3 INT) and his main targets are WR’s Jeremy Childs (29 rec 342 yds 1 TD) and Vinny Perretta (17 rec 230 yds 1 TD). The Broncos rushing attack is led by Ian Johnson (363 yds 4 TD). The Spartans are led by QB Kyle Reed (1164 yds 7 TD 6 INT) and his main targets are WR’s David Richmond (39 rec 419 yds 2 TD) and Kevin Jurovich (15 rec 183 yds 1 TD). The Spartans rushing attack is led by Yonus Davis (457 yds 2 TD).
Staff Pick:While the Broncos rank higher than the Spartans in per game averages of total yards, passing yards, rushing yards, and points scored but the Spartans have the better D. On defense the Spartans rank 13th and the Broncos rank 32nd. However, the Broncos D is legit, as they rank 2nd in the FBS in scoring defense and they have given up more than a TD in only 1 game. The Spartans are 0-8 in this series and are 0-9 in their last 9 games against ranked teams. This is the last test for the Broncos, as their next few opponents will not be seen in any Bowl games this season. For the Spartans to have any chance in this game they have to stop Moore and the Spartans 15th ranked passing offense. While the Spartans are 5-2 they have not beat one team that has a winning record. Besides their D the Spartans are playing on Friday night, as games that have not been on Saturday have seen many unranked teams take down ranked teams. For the Broncos to have any chance at a BCS game they have to win this game and may have to win convincingly. Look for the Broncos to beat the Spartans handily and keep their perfect record in tact.
