Serious Question: How do you fight self control?

This is one of the biggest things that make or break a sports bettor. And quite frankly I feel embarrassed to share this on a sports forum, but I feel like I straight up just lack self control completely. I know it's extremely hard. But for those who play one play a day or are able not to bet if they don't want to, HOW do you do it?
I've been trying extremely hard to tail a couple of cappers on the MLB forum who consistently make great picks, yet I balance myself out or at times even go down at the day's end due to my own reckless picks. As an example today I was supposed to go 7-0 following cappers today. I threw in a couple of White Sox and Astros ML, sprinkle a Rangers ML live bet, and voila all of my profit turns into debt for the day.
It's a tough trait to grasp and after today I'm determined to fight this urge to bet every game. It's hard for me and it really feels like a problem.
How do you do it?
I appreciate and feedback or comments, but any hate or trolling can stay at the door please.

I was once told I had "impulse control disorder" which may be true, but isn't that just a crutch to lean on? I have had many issues over the years with what you are talking about. First land based casinos were a problem for me, they are no longer. I made a decision to not be an idiot anymore. So now I still go to the casino sometimes but I am MUCH more discilned, and I no longer bet big money there, it's entertainment for me like a regular person. I was always good at capping, but would make stupid bets in addition..I simple\y decided to not be foolish anymore. Haven't been foolish in few years. You just gotta decide to cut the shit out. Wish I could give you a better answer than that, but for me it is the right answer.

Hey bro thanks for thw wise story.. I am actually going through the EXACT same thing as you. I used to love casinos and go literally ALL the time.. I decided to cut that out and moved on to sports betting which I find more entertaining and easier to play with. I still have to learn how to cut the stupid impulsive bets out but it's tough

abone - I'm not sure if this will answer the question but I will be looking at lines and see something that I feel should be a guaranteed win without doing any in-depth research. I'l think for about 30 seconds and then make my decision on whether I should bet it or not, and usually I end up just clicking go.
Eg. I will see Bumgarner v.s. Cashner. Padres suck ass right? 500 on Bumbum. Giants lose.
Crazy stuff happens in sports and betting on these games for the past year has really opened my eyes to these things.

Interesting thread. Self-control is synonymous to self discipline. It's a learned trait which is improved through practice. Take it one day at a time.
Discipline yourself to only focus on the bets you can afford to throw on a specific day. Just my 50 cents.

Before you place your next wager, try to find reasons why you shouldn't place that wager. This one technique has helped me cut down on my plays. But I don't follow the train of thought of only playing 1 or 2 plays a day. If I see opportunity, I'm trying to take advantage of it.

Ok limit your plays. Money management. BET ONLY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD TO LOSE. If that fails just Take PENNY WISE PLAYS. Not totals but sides only. Sides he's like 75%. Totals 500. Good luck

yep, sometimes many of us can lose self control and it is hard to speak about self discipline in such cases.
