LSU
This is the place to be for kicks with the return of last year's starting punter, place-kicker and deep snapper. Junior Jamie Keehn, a transplanted Australian, averaged 41.0 yards on 43 punts. He had 10 punts of better than 50 yards, including a personal best 58 yarder. Eighteen of his kicks were downed inside the 20-yard line.

Florida
Redshirt sophomore Austin Hardin returns as the starter after making just 4 of 12 field goal attempts a year ago, with a long of 33 yards. He handled kickoff duties throughout the season and has the strongest leg on the roster. Walk-on Frankie Velez is the backup kicker after making 6 of 8 field goals a year ago. At punter, 2012 Ray Guy Award finalist Kyle Christy is back. Christy, a senior, lost his job to first year punter Johnny Townsend in 2013, but won it back during the spring. Sixth-year senior Andre Debose returns as the top kickoff return man in school history with four career returns for touchdowns. Vernon Hargreaves will serve as the starting punt returner.

Auburn
Kicker Cody Parkey, punter Steven Clark and punt returner Chris Davis helped Auburn have one of the top special teams units in the SEC a year ago, but they've all graduated. The loss of Clark may sting the most. His moonshot punts downed inside the 20 (26) helped the defense out a number of times. Redshirt freshman Jimmy Hutchinson, who averaged 40.2 yards per punt in the A-Day Game, takes over for Clark. Redshirt freshman Daniel Carlson is Parkey's successor. He hit a 27 and 50 yarder during the A-Day Game. D'haquille Williams could be a viable punt return candidate. Corey Grant, Quan Bray and Rudy Ford are kick-return candidates.

Alabama
Adam Griffith was supposed to replace Cade Foster, but an inconsistent spring has set up a fall competition. The sophomore missed two field goals and an extra point in the spring game and will now compete against true freshman JK Scott, a Denver native ranked as one of the nation's best high school kickers. Scott is likely to take over the punters job as well vacated by three year starter Cody Mandell, one of the best in the country last year. There's much more certainty at returner, where sure-handed Christion Jones has been outstanding the past two years. Plenty of others are capable of returning punts and kicks, too.

South Carolina
Place-kicker Elliott Fry won the job last August as a walk-on, becoming the first South Carolina freshman to start an opener since 1996. Fry returns to the role after he made 15 of 18 field goal attempts, with a long of 45 yards. He hit 54 of 55 PATs. He's also battling Landon Ard for the kickoff job. Senior Tyler Hull will handle punting duties for the third straight year, but his average fell from 39.4 yards in 2012 to 37.8 in 2013. Pharoh Cooper averaged 22.4 yards per return last year, with a long of 55 yards, and has returned nine punts. The sophomore will handle both duties full time this season.

Sidenote: Georgia is a money burning 1-6 against the spread the last 7 games against South Carolina. The Dawgs travel to Columbia on September 13.

DB Victor Davis suspended for shoplifting at Kohls
Gavin Stansbury leaves team to deal with personal issues. He had a misdemeanor assault charge earlier this year.

Not looking good for the already not so deep defense...

not sure why everyone thinks florida is an east title challenger this season. that's a whole lot of confidence in a qb that hasnt done anything to deserve it
Totally agree with you there, RT. I was asking someone the other day why people are so high on Florida being a contender in the east this year. I do not think Driskel is a good QB. Even when he was healthy I wasn't sold on him. Moreover, I think Bloodchamp is a psychopath and can't coach for shit. We shall see if his fancy new HUNH offense will get the job done. I doubt it.

I agree about Muschamp. He reminds me of Mike Stoops. Very good DC, not good HC material...

Muschamp is certainly believing the gator hype:

“I feel very good about our football team going to Atlanta. I really do,” Muschamp said on "SportsCenter." “I’m very confident as far as our talent base. The foundation has been set. I think this is the most complete team we’ve had at Florida.”

I'm not sold either....and still can't believe Foley hung on to Muschamp for another year.

I will say, if Driskel improves w/ the new OC, I think they have a chance to compete in the East. Unfortunately they play Bama & LSU out of the West, so they likely don't win the East even if they beat 2 of 3 out of UGA, USC, & Missouri.

Now if Driskel plays like he has most of his career? Well, they have no chance. UF's offense has been atrocious, and that's putting it mildly. If they can move from 100+ ranked into the top 50 that alone is worth 3-4 more wins.

The injuries can't possibly pile up like they did last year. They seem very healthy heading into fall w/ only 2 players out for fall camp.

Over the last 7 seasons, Alabama played the 9th-toughest schedule in FBS and still outgained opponents by a nation’s best 14,047 yards.

I don't trust in Driskel. He has not blood in the veins, he is not athletic. He has not a lot of talent passing. My confidence in gators offense this year is similar as last year maybe a bit better with new OC. Muschamp can say they are #1 and believe the hype but I see other sad offense this season.

Think I've been pretty out front on my view of Florida if one reviews back. I LOVE the Gators this year as a money maker and appreciate all the Gator BASHING out there that you guys can muster up. Kill the sorryass bastards...only helps me.

I will wager $3 dollars on every single Florida game this season..excluding bowl game and will win over $1000 profit for the season.

My suggestion for you is to wager $3 per game AGAINST Florida....like my changes against you my friends.

Attention: GoSooner my friend.

I have been putting in a lot of time studying defenses for the coming season.

Please give me your "GUT" appraisal (not homer/loyal crap) on this years defense.

I always bet defense first and Olkahoma looks to have a good one for the season.

Trust you partner.............welcome your help!

Dude, Driskel is far from a great QB...but "not athletic" is the last adjective I'd use to describe him. He ran for 170+ yards vs. Vandy 2 years ago (a UF QB record...and keep in mind, Tim Tebow and Cam Newton are former Gator QBs). He was drafted this year by the Boston Red Sox...and he hasn't played baseball since HS.

Driskel's problem has been 3 fold: poor decision making...poor coaching....and lack of talent around him (the OL and WR positions have been ridiculously bad the last 4 years).

If he makes better decisions (w/ a better OL and WR's....and a better coach/OC/QB coach) he'll surprise a lot of people. He was a 5-star recruit. He's certainly "athletic"!

For me "true-athletic" is Jameis Winston. Driskel has the skill to skip pressure, yes, but he is far to reach athleticism of Winston or former Gator Tebow.

let me get this straight...

you're going to wager $3 for their 12 games and win $1000? must have quite a generous bookie

i hated florida last year and knew they would be shit but i think they'll be better this year. my issue is with their qb and coach, not their talent level. if driskel plays even decent qb they can be a dd win team simply because they have so many players with experience now b/c of the injuries in 2013. but i've just not seen anything from jd to make me think he's a winner

they will have one hell of a defense though...how that translates into winning $1000 off of $36 wager i'm not sure but GL

Common betting terminology ....

dollar = $100
nickel = $500
dine = $1000

When I call in the process is simple. What's the line on Florida? OK, I'll take Florida -6 for 3 dollars. Bet is booked.

No shit!

I think Driskel is as "athletic" as Winston....but he's a borderline retard. He plays at 80-90% ("thinking" too much, so to speak). He's been very poorly coached and hasn't had the chance to show is "athleticism" (I hate that made up word, btw). As a Gator fan, I just hope Roper can get him playing like a 5-star recruit instead of 3/4th of a retard!

Coach, I have a hunch Driskel will be just fine this season. He will be running the offense he ran in high school for four years. As you said, he was highly recruited (5star) coming out of high school. My take is the potential is there with this kid. He's now in a system he is comfortable with and and should be a positive factor for the offense.

Gambling Definitions

Guess I have been doing this so long I assume others know gambling talk. Don't expect much of younger guys but thinking older guys have a clue. Here's some basic terms used in the gambling world.

Action: A type of sports betting wager of any kind, basically a bet.
ATS: Against The Spread..taking points rather than betting with the spread and laying points in sports betting.
Bet: To risk something on the outcome of a game.
Fifty Cents: $50 of sports action.
Dollar: Sports betting term for $100 wager.
Nickel: Sports betting term for $500 wager.
Dime: Sports betting term for $1000 wager.
Chalk: The favorite.
Dog: The team perceived to be most like to lose.
Hook: A half point added to football betting lines.
Juice: The books commission on a losing bet, also know as vigorish.
Line: Current odds or point spread on a game.
Straight Up: Winning the game without regards to point spread.
Totals Bet: A proposition bet in which the bettor speculates that the total points by both teams will be more or less than posted line.
Square: A novice when it comes to sports betting.
Sharp: A sophisticated or profession gambler.

Hell, there are many more but these are basic fundamental "betting talk" among gamblers. Assumed most ole timers would be aware of 60 years of gaming talk.
