I had no idea the state of Georgia had decriminalized weed possesion to just a citation. ...Sure beats getting locked up and dealing with a bail bonds agent.

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall was cited for marijuana possession less than an ounce on Friday in Taylor County, Ga.He was not arrested.

According to Reynolds police chief Lonnie Holder, Marshall was pulled over at 12:45 p.m. on Friday on Georgia Highway 96 east. Holder said the stop occurred due to a "window tint" violation on a purple Dodge Charger that Marshall was driving.
"Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected an odor of marijuana," Holder said, noting Marshall was the only person in the vehicle. "At that time, a consent to search the vehicle was requested and granted."

Asked where the marijuana was located, Marshall informed the officer it was above his visor.

"At that time we located the marijuana and we detained him for just a little while for his safety and ours," Holder said. "He was given two citations, one for window tint violation and another for possession of marijuana of less than an ounce."
Holder said the amount of marijuana on Marshall came out to "eight or nine grams."

A court date was set for Sept. 10 at 10 a.m., though Holder said Marshall will not have to appear if he pays the fines for the citations beforehand.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn issued an official statement on the matter in a release from the athletic department Friday night.
"I am aware of the situation that happened earlier today with Nick," Malzahn said in the release. "I'm very disappointed and I will address it with him accordingly."

A native of Rochelle, Ga., Marshall was chosen as one of Auburn's three players representative for the SEC's annual media days event, which begins next week. As the defending conference champions, the Tigers were set to kick off the event Monday.

Last season, Marshall threw for 1,976 yards and 14 touchdowns and added 1,068 rushing yards and 12 scores on the ground. After coming out on top of a four-way quarterback battle in fall camp, Marshall led the Tigers to a 12-2 record en route to SEC championship and a berth in the BCS title game.

Starring at quarterback at tiny Wilcox County High School, Marshall lifted the Patriots to a Class A state championship in 2009. He then signed with Georgia; with Aaron Murray set as the Bulldogs' starting quarterback, Marshall was used as a defensive back, taking part in 13 games for Georgia during the 2011 campaign.

Marshall's career at Georgia came to an end in the spring of 2012, when he was dismissed for an undisclosed violation of team rules which reportedly involved stealing from a teammate.

Upon his dismissal from Georgia, Marshall transferred to Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan., and made the decision to return to playing quarterback. In his one season with the Broncbusters, Marshall passed for 3,142 yards and led the team in rushing with 1,095 yards and accounted for 37 touchdowns (19 rushing, 18 passing).

After spending one season at Garden City, Marshall signed with Auburn, becoming one of the crown jewels of Malzahn's first recruiting class in 2013.

Thanks Ty. It is amazing how STUPID some of these kids are. Marshall has a chance to do something special at Auburn while getting a free education and he pulls a stunt like this. He was schedule to be one of three Tiger players at SEC Media Days starting this week. Haven't heard if Malzahn has replaced him. He'll create a circus if he's there.

South Carolina

Steve Spurrier is the best coach in South Carolina history and the last few years have led to the greatest era by far. As last season proved, with seven wins over teams that finished with winning records, great victories over Clemson and Central Florida (Knights only loss), and strong wins over Missouri and Wisconsin, this is a top program. To become elite, though, South Carolina has to win a conference title, or at least come close. A one loss season in the SEC probably gets you into the College Football Playoff, and that means the Gamecocks have to do all of the little things right week in and week out. That's not always a given. Example being the loss to a very mediocre Tennessee team last year.

South Carolina is past the point now of merely being happy that it doesn't suck. In the past three seasons, the Gamecocks have the second best record of any conference team (33-6), finishing 11-2 each year. Only Alabama has been better (36-4) in that time. Despite 33 wins, Spurrier and team haven't made it to Atlanta for the league title game in any of those seasons. It might not be fair and it might not be right considering the tough world of the Southeastern Conference, but considering the Ole Ball Coach is 69 years old, the window might be closing soon. Spurrier never won eleven or more games three years in a row at Florida, but now he's going for a fourth at South Carolina. With the schedule and a number of key holes to fill, its certainly not a gimme. I like his chances though!

Clover , i've done some google searches and i can't find anything that indicates the state of Georgia has relaxed possession laws. ... it looks like he caught a big break from the local smoky bear.

CL, although Missouri, Georgia, and SC are breaking in new QBs each of those QBs has started at least 2 games in their career. So it's not as if they are going into the season w/ a green QB.

Bama just racked up it's 2nd arrest in a week: DT Jarrod Reed (JUCO transfer, 1st team DT) got a DUI last night. He actually signed w/ UF in 2013 but didn't qualify...went back to JUCO and signed w/ Bama this year.

One of the first things Texas A&M has to learn about the SEC , is to watch out for the pranks the contractors might pull ... ROLL TIDE :)

An Alabama flag has been spotted in enemy territory. On Monday, a picture of an Alabama flag at Kyle Field, Texas A&M's stadium, circulated on social media. Kyle Field is currently undergoing extensive renovations prior to the 2014 season.

Alabama defeated Texas A&M 49-42 in College Station in 2013 and the Aggies beat the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa in 2012, 29-24. The two teams will meet again at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, October 18.

I wonder if Gus is going to uphold his zero tolerance on weed. Sure doesn't seem like it so far.

Auburn

No one expected Gus Malzahn to detail Nick Marshall's discipline at SEC Media Days and he didn't yesterday. The Auburn coach said his quarterback will face consequences for his actions beyond getting yanked from the Media Days roster but didn't divulge them. He didn't say whether Marshall will play in the opener against Arkansas, which leaves that very appropriate possibility open. Marshall who was kicked out of Georgia for stealing from teammates has been a model citizen at Auburn. However, getting caught with marijuana last week dampens that a bit. Marshall is considered a team leader and here just weeks before fall practice, he let's his teammates down. A strong and quick decision is needed by Malzahn to let this team knows what's expected of them. Would appropriate action be to suspend his starting quarterback for the first game against Arkansas? I think so...it would definitely send the right message for a team some think can challenge for the SEC championship.

The Florida kid got busted in May. I'm curious why it took so long to get out.

Good stuff from Spurrier today at media days.
I saw that. LMAO at some of these quotes.

On current rival A&M, "I always thought Davey Crockett was the hero of the Alamo, he and the Tennessee guys".

Here's his take on donors, "similar to an owner in the NFL, but they don't tell us what to do. They're owners from a distance".

Spurrier on A&M and Kevin Sumlin, "He's a good negotiator, we know that."

Spurrier on Steven Garcia. "I saw him on TV last night. He's got his long hair back. I said it looked like he joined the duck dynasty."

Spurrier on coaching in the NFL, "I thought I was going to coach in the NFL for 5-6 years and retire to the beach and play golf. But that was a bad plan."

So the guy who got fired for putting the flag up posted this on facebook in February:
"This stadium will never be ready for this. Season,I'm putting iron in backwards and wrong holing everything!!"

This is really sad if true. As a Bama fan i thought the flag prank was kinda funny , but if he sabotoged the work he should be fired and sued. (and or jailed) ...totaly unprofessional and uncool.

I thought it was funny too. This guy seems off balance though.

LSU

The legend of Tiger freshman running back Leonard Fournette already is reaching epic proportions, and the kid has yet to get his first carry. Listening to LSU coach Les Miles, a person gets a sense that Fournette is the can't miss recruit and a sure-fire Heisman Trophy candidate in a couple of years. At least, those are the expectations for a kid just out of high school and on campus as a student for the first time. Fournette does seem to have a high ceiling but so does a lot of other highly recruited kids that come into college football each year. He was rated as the nation's top high school running back his senior season at St. Augustine High in New Orleans. He put up spectacular career numbers rushing for 6,993 yards and 82 touchdowns in four years. He's 6-foot-1, 225 pounds and runs a 4.35 40-yard dash. Just as important as his talent, Fournette apparently has earned the respect of his new teammates because of his attitude and work habits. Lot of pressure on the young running back...that's for sure.

Mississippi State

The Bulldogs had three conference wins in 2013 as part of a 7-6 record that included victories over Kentucky, Ole Miss and Arkansas. The Dogs also had near misses against Auburn and Alabama. Mississippi State has 54 returning letterman, 30 that have started at least one game for the Bulldogs a year ago. The Bulldogs ended the season with a three game winning streak, including a 44-7 thumping of Rice in the Liberty Bowl. Dan Mullen is beginning his sixth year in Starkville and will welcome an expanded Davis-Wade Stadium, which now seats more than 61,000 fans. Mullen isn't predicting a trip to Atlanta but is confident this year's team is on the cusp of something special. We shall see.

Tennessee

Butch Jones guided the Volunteers to a 5-7 record and 2-6 in the conference. Besides three victories against lower level nonconference competition, quality wins came against SEC foes South Carolina and Kentucky. Jones brought in 32 recruits this year. There were 14 who were able to join the team in the spring. Veteran players also should have a better understanding of the multiple offensive system, 4-3 defense and what Jones wants on a daily basis. Better leadership should emerge with 44 returning letterman, five starters on offense and five on defense back. Line play on both sides of the ball will be a factor in whether the Vols have their sixth losing season in the past seven years. Another factor will be at the quarterback position being contested between senior Justin Worley and sophomore Joshua Dobbs. Worley completed 109 of 196 passes for 1,239 yards, 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Dobbs was 72 of 121 for 695 yards, 2 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

Sidenote: There are 5 factors to winning a football game. 1. If you win the field position battle, you win the game 72 percent of the time. 2. If you win the turnover battle, you win the game 73 percent of the time. 3. If you finish drives better than your opponent, you win 75 percent of the time. 4. If your are more *efficient than your opponent, you win 83 percent of the time. 5. If you are more *explosive than your opponent, you win 86 percent of the time. (efficient = successful for every play) (explosive = yards per play)

I have Miss St 3rd in west, Florida 5th in east otherwise pretty similar. Really think aTm are the wild card on the board. defense will be deeper and stronger and never seems like a sumlin qb's have a bad year.

not sure why everyone thinks florida is an east title challenger this season. that's a whole lot of confidence in a qb that hasnt done anything to deserve it

Florida

The schedule starts in friendly fashion, with three straight home games, including the SEC opener against Kentucky in week three. The Gators must take advantage, because they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama on Sept. 20 before getting a bye week. The next three at Tennessee, home against LSU and Missouri will be the true barometer for whether Florida can factor in to the SEC race. The Gators get a bye before their annual showdown with Georgia in Jacksonville, then take on Vanderbilt on the road and South Carolina at home to wrap up the SEC. Having the SEC schedule split almost perfectly into thirds by a pair of byes should help the Gators remain competitive. The schedule wraps up with a tough road game at Florida State.

Texas A&M

The first ever meeting between Texas A&M and South Carolina on August 28 in Columbia will serve as the inaugural football game ever to be broadcast on the SEC Network. It's also an early statement opportunity for both schools. A&M will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth area on back-to-back weekends in September, playing at SMU and then facing Arkansas at AT&T Stadium (Cowboy Stadium). Ole Miss comes to College Station for the first time since 1975, one week before the Aggies return to Alabama for the first time since the 2012 upset win over the Tide. And to the delight of A&M fans, the regular season concludes at home on Thanksgiving Day against LSU.

Tennessee

The Volunteers faced the nation's toughest schedule last season, according to NCAA.com, as opponents had a .658 win percentage. Seven were ranked in the Top 25...four in the Top 10. Looks like more of the same for this season. Tennessee will face nine teams that went 7-2 in bowl games...six that won at least nine games. A trip to Oklahoma highlights the non-conference schedule that also includes Utah State (9-5), which won the Poinsettia Bowl, and Arkansas State (8-5), which won the GoDaddy Bowl. The SEC gauntlet includes games at Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The home conference schedule features Alabama, which Tennessee hasn't beaten since 2006; Florida, which UT hasn't beaten since 2004; Missouri, which played for the SEC Championship; and improving Kentucky. The only breather at home is Chattanooga. A 6-6 record would have Vol fans dancing down Peyton Manning Blvd.

Vanderbilt

The new Derek Mason regime will be tested early with a game against Ole Miss at LP Field (Tennessee Titans Stadium) in week two. Both schools agreed to move the game in order to create a "big game" feel in the annual cross-division rivalry. The Rebels' up-tempo offense should challenge the Commodores new look on defense. Two weeks later, South Carolina will roll into West End, in what could be a pivotal game in the SEC East race. Trips to Georgia and Mississippi State will be more tough games on the docket for 2014. Temple, Massachusetts, Old Dominion and Charleston Southern make up one of the weaker non-conference schedules in big time football, while Kentucky and Tennessee present struggling programs that can be ripe for the picking once again.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Sidenote: Vanderbilt is 0-13 straight up and 2-11 against the spread in game six of the season. Game six this year is at Georgia.
