chop chop corley..........wtf????

the guy stands in with a guy 17 pounds heavier in the other guy`s backyard....imo,gave as good as he got in the first 2 rounds....then nails cotto on the temple with a counter right hook......and cotto looked every bit as as hurt as any fighter i`ve ever seen not go down from a shot.....

literally millions on the line for corley if he pulls the upset....

what does he do?.....he saunters after cotto like he can pick the time to drop the hammer.....goes to the body....when one more head shot may well put cotto away....

the chance of a lifetime....the opportunity of a career...and corley reverts to some sort of sparring partner mentality and literally lets cotto off the hook...

i can`t explain it...cotto was severly hurt...stumbled into the ropes....a full out assault,imo,stops him....

in a situation like this, you let it all go...even if you shoot your bolt, you are away...a huge underdog...fighting a much bigger guy.....

and you act like you need a cigarette break....

as great as corley fought for 3 rounds,he`s a stupid m.f.`er who just blew the mother lode....and he has nobody to blame but his own stupid ass...

cotto was out on his feet....with most of the round left....

how can you get this far in the fight game and not realize the opportunity of a lifetime when it stares you dead in the face?.....

not to mention the ridiculous stoppage that gives boxing another black eye.....

that ref should never be allowed in another ring.....unbelievable...

it`s hard to knock corley given the effort he put forth tonight....but,i am......one of the worst cases of bad judgement in the ring i`ve ever seen.....

he had cotto for the taking......and didn`t put forth the effort.....

i`m glad he`ll lose out on the monster payday he certainly would have gleaned from winning this fight.....

which was only a few head shots away....

loser...

Even tougher loss when you have Corley at +1093. It almost seems as though he knew the deck was stacked against him. He couldn't knock him out and knew that seemingly non-english speaking ref wasn't going to help and a decision was a pipe dream in Cotto's hometown.

Same here Sphin! I didn't have anything on the fight either and expected a Cotto slaughter and not expecting what I say but when Corley connected and had Cotto out on his feet I was screaming at the TV to finish his ass off. My wife thought I was going crazy. I will never for the life of me understand how you can let a guy stumble around for almost two minutes and not finish him off, had me pissed like I had money on this fight. All he needed was one good head shot or a vicious flurry and that should have been all she wrote. I admit I was a Cotto believer before this fight from previous fights I saw. I thought he could take out anybody in 140 lbs before this fight but he seemed undisciplined tonight trying to impress his hometown fans and almost left with the L due to that. Tzuyu should be licking his chops right now.

labeeb...you should have cashed in on a beautiful payday....

go 2...i watched again this morning and it confirmed my opinion that cotto was gone....i am also a cotto guy and this fight has made me rethink my opinion....somewhat...

maybe, the fact that cotto must have had to dehydrate ridiculously to make 140(ballooned up to 157 by fight time) drained him....we`ll see...he`s almost certainly headed for welter....that means dlh, mosely and guys like kermit cintron will be waiting....at around 5`7",that will be a tough road to hoe...

jr welter or welter.....cotto`s gonna have to earn his stripes....

thanks for responding....glad i`m not the only one that thought corley blew a big opportunity...

labeeb...ballsy play..should have turned into gold for you.....you should have cashed......g.l. guys..

This was something I was waiting for someone on the HBO broadcast to mention. Stewart certainly shouldn't have missed it. All they wanted to do was talk about how much bigger and stronger Cotto would be. They also mentioned the fact that welterweight was his most likely destination. What they FAILED to mention was that the effort in order to make the 140 must have been devastating given that he added 17 pounds in 27 hours. Had it been the usual 7 or 8 pounds you see from most fighters at 140 it would have been a big deal, but 17! That told me that he was going to be susecptable to one punch, even given the size difference.

Corley will be replaying this fight over and over for a while to come. I probably will be to, but just not as long.

Here's the record of the hometown referree who has officiated 7 fights in the last 3 calendar years, all but one in Puerto Rico.
