Give the man his props and Cotto is the man-that dude can really fight for a human, but Margarito isn't human.

De La Hoya previously said he would be reluctant to take on another Mexican fighter - particularly one who rearranges faces like Margarito does. If the Golden Boy goes with Cotto, Manny Pacquiao or a lesser challenge, Margarito could be looking forward to a unification fight with the winner of next weekend's IBF title bout between Zab Judah and Joshua Clottey.

Of course, there are great fights on almost a weekly basis. Lost in the Marg/Cotto classic is the fact the undercard turned out to be much better than expected, including the Canchila/Segura fight, which was nothing but action.

The reason for pointing out the bigger matches is that's what appeals to the casual fan. For freaks like you and I, we're already hooked.

Agreed:toast:..You know I put 25 bucks on Canchilla and it paid $150:aktion033

I love MMA and it is the better sport when it comes to determining the better all around fighter, but even at its best, it's not as enjoyable to watch as boxing. Yea there are some good bouts but far too many fights end up with grappling and ground and pound, and that's just not that as fun to watch IMO. I'd rather see two guys go toe to toe. And boxing is still way ahead of MMA as a sport (though the gap is closing), the proof is in the difference in money being made by the fighters.

A lot of good arguments and statements in this thread. But to say that there are plenty off mma fighters could be boxers is ridiculous. Please name three that you really believe could climb the ranks of boxing.

all of you guys have serious bias which is natural. there really is no need for me to further argue my point, we will only go around in circles.

anyone familiar with mma could put a list together of fighters who are unbelievable boxers who if it was the only discipline they studied they could compete at the high levels.

also the money argument is one of ignorance but if you don't understand why there is no real reason for me to get into all of it. both sports are structured totally different and only a handful of fighters make the unreal money and it is that handful that are ruining the sport.

just look around you... mma has surpassed boxing, period. feel free to continue to fuel this thread with ignorance... i am out.

:cryingcry

Who cares! Watch what you like and let the rest of the world be!

MMA fighters would fare as poorly in boxing as boxers would fare in MMA. There are tremendous punchers in MMA, but I've never seen a proper pure boxer - it's just not the same type of boxing when you need to take into account that a knee or a takedown attempt could be coming back your way. Similarly, traditional boxers would look foolish in a MMA ring/cage.

Mutant apples and oranges, people.

Its funny. When somebody calls people bias they are 95% of the time bias to the opposite side. And I know mma. Actually watch it more than boxing. And I again say what you want. There are not many if any fighters that would climb the ranks. And if a list was that easy you would have made it. Dont get me wrong I agree the popularity of mma has surpassed boxing. The thing is that they have to keep it going and dont let it become a fad.

And the money thing is not ignorant. Cause there wasnt money like that in mma when alot of these mma fighters were coming up. Also i do believe it is an easier path to become a elite fighter or than an elite boxer. Now im not talking about training or money or anything like that. Im talking about the number of fights it takes and who you got to fight.

But I just typed all this for no reason since you are done with us bias people even though only two people are really bias and admitted to be bias.

LOL

Boxing is still a more popular sport. Go on the street and ask your moderate sports fan to name 5 MMA fighters and he's going to struggle. 5 boxers? Much easier task. But I agree that the gap is closing

Maybe 5 all-time boxers , 5 current ones ??? I doubt that. Boxing is becoming the joke of the Sports world. If you went into a sports bar and asked 50 random guys to name 5 current Boxing World Champions, I bet less than 50 % could name more than 2.
